Michaels Club

The really irritating thing about limiting Michael's to suites is that now Michael's always seems empty. On our last cruise I think we saw passengers in there twice and each time it was only one group of three. Maybe on some ships it is being well used, but so far we haven't found anyone who said it was.
But as many have reported, and I've personally seen, Michael's club was rarely used before (I never saw anyone in it on my last cruise, other then when it was our muster station). At least now it is being used as a perk for those that are paying top dollar for their suites. Edited by NLH Arizona

As Orator commented so eloquently, cruise ship venues change over time and people adjust accordingly.

I would agree and have had similar experiences to see that Michael's was consistently empty when it was available to all.

That is not the case. Michael's is now a dedicated lounge for senior suite guests, VIPs and Zenith cruisers.

What is the age to be considered a senior?

Happy cruisng 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

The change to Michaels Club suits me just fine. In my experience it was irritating to go there for craft beer and find it closed to "an event" that wasnt listed.

Now we can go to the Wine Cellars area anytime. Turning WC into a pub is a much better use of that space anyway. The wine machines were a novelty that lost its thrill pretty quickly.

And overall Celebrity is the best cruise line IMHO.

I agree. DH and I both enjoyed the craft beers in Michael's on the Silhouette in 2012, but there never seemed to be anyone in there, except for when it was used to screen the Euro soccer matches.

On the Eclipse last year it didn't work so well, as it was more of an entertainment venue, but I thought it was a little to small for that. And it didn't have much beer :(

I think it may be an improvement overall to make Cellar Masters (which was hardly used on either ship when we were onboard into a pub type venue. It's bigger and the layout seems more suited to a pub IMHO.

Anyway, as long as they have craft beer in there, we'll be happy!

This is part of letter I sent to Celebrity following our Baltic cruise in June on Eclipse.

Last year on The Century the highlight for our party of 4 was to go and sit in Michael's Club and listen to the pianist and enjoy a whisky or two in the evening in a very relax atmosphere, we were very disappointed to find that Michael's Club is now exclusively available to Top Tier Suite Guests & Captain's Club Zenith Members only. The Club was always devoid of patrons every time we walked past, what a shame to waste such a superb venue, I do hope that you will re consider this action.

Sorry but grumble number two Cafe Al Bacio people used this area as reading room and not a cafe, it was always hard to get a table to enjoy a cake and coffee agreed it is a nice area, there is very little area where people could go and site and read without something going on, the library is nice but not big enough. Could I recommend firstly you use notices on the table like in the Ocean Cafe asking people to vacate the table when finished. Secondly why not use, the underused Michael's Club as a reading room during the day which would keep everybody happy.

And This is the reply

Thank you for getting in touch with us about the new restrictions to Michael’s Club and the use of Café Al Bacio. I apologise for the delay getting back to you with a response. We are currently going through a very busy period, so thank you for your patience

I can understand why, as you had enjoyed Michael’s Club on previous sailings, you were disappointed that this lounge was not available to you as it had been in the past.

As you may be aware, at the end of last year we made changes to our Captain’s Club. One of which was increasing the number of levels within it, which enables us to better recognise those who choose to sail with us regularly. As a first step to enhancing the onboard experience for these guests, since January this year we have introduced a change in the use of Michael’s Club. Now, Captain’s Club Zenith members and guests in Relection, Signature, Penthouse, and Royal Suites have exclusive access to the Michael’s Club lounge.

We feel that this change shows how we are looking to recognise how important the loyalty of our guests is to us. Nevertheless, we really appreciate your feedback about this. Upper management is monitoring our guests’ views on the change, and so I have recorded your comments on our system for them to review internally.

Concerning the use of Café Al Bacio, I appreciate it is a good place to sit and read; however, we do ask guests to remain courteous to other guests and vacate tables during busy periods if they are not dining. Your suggestion of using signs is a good idea. I hope you were able to get a table during the busy periods even when there were other guests sitting there, but not dining and I’m sorry for any frustration it caused you. I have forwarded your comments to the ship so they can assess the issue and address it as needed.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I’m so pleased you had an enjoyable holiday despite these two issues you have raised with us. We look forward to seeing you again in November.

I totally disagree that Michael's Club should be used as a reading room. There are many places to read on the ship, without taking away this new perk for suite passengers. Suite passengers pay top dollar for their cabins and they sould have a dedicated lounge, just as there are venues closed down for Captain's Club events, Elite breakfast & cocktail parties and Cruise Critic meet and greets. Leave this new perk alone.

I've noticed on the few cruises where I enjoyed Michael's Club that there were times when no one from Celebrity was in the room to monitor who was there. One could just enter and take whatever drinks were in the cases. I suggested that the door be locked and a key or card key be issued to those who were entitled to use the facility. That might control who has access during the non monitored times. Of course this might make some more aggravated.

That is a great idea. I know at one of the Caesar's Palaces casinos, the Diamond Longe is only accessible with your Total Rewards card. If they did your idea, which I would also strongly suggest, they would ensure that only those Zenith and top end suite passengers could have access to their lounge.

Orator, hopefully you pass this great suggestion on to the power that be.

On RCI the Concierge lounge requires your SeaPass card to open door and enter. That way only those that should have access can enter.

The Celebrity Suites and Century Suite on Century are also included. The Sky Suites are excluded. So the statement as listed is incorrect. Look forward to seeing you on the TA.

Orator - off topic question. Can the Michael's concierge stock a certain mixer for someone that isn't usually offered onboard? Would it be out of line when they contact you prior to the cruise to ask? I end up bringing on my own diet tonic (gin & tonics = yum) and it would be so great if I didn't have to do that. Curious. Next cruise is in a C1 aft but I'm looking to schedule for 2016 and will try our 1st Celebrity or Royal suite.

The Bar Server is responsible for stocking. I don't believe that they will be able to get something that's not on their regular supply order, but you can ask. You may receive a call from the MC Concierge prior to your cruise and you can ask at that time. They will do everything they can to meet your needs.

When we were on Equinox in April, the bartender would go to other Bar to get what you may want, if he did not have it. That said there were very few people using the club as it was just converted, so during busier times they may not.

They will certainly get it for you if it is on the ship. However, the poster asked about getting something that might not be normally on the ship. This could be very difficult if not impossible since all ordering comes from Miami and all purchases are in bulk. If they know a request in advance they might be able to get it. Doesn't hurt to ask. They'll they'll the poster what the can and cannot do and the poster can make whatever arrangements they need to make to get what they want.

Thanks. That's what I thought.

I love how the suits in Miami can't even get their facts straight. Good thing we have Cruise Critic.

As of April 2015 Celebrity suite guests have access to Michael's Club with the new Suite Benefits Program. Not sure what is happening right now.

From what I've read in reviews and past passenger comments, Michael's Club is now a dedicated lounge for suite guests and Zenith guests.
