Theft on Oasis

Recommended Posts

A few years ago my wife brought back a $100 bill from the casino. She put it on the desk. After going to breakfast she looked for it and it was not there. She (and I) were sure it had to be taken by the room attendant. She wanted to call security, but I told her "you don't leave money out like that". And that that would be his tip, no extra.

The last night as we emptied the drawers (that she had looked through). We found the bill. I was so happy we didn't call anyone.

Hi:

I am so sorry to hear about your Chanel Sunglasses, this happened to me also, however my sunglasses were not designer.

A co-worker lost her designer sunglasses also. I bring 3 pairs of sunglasses, 2 of which I buy at the dollar store, if I lose them, well it's just $1. One pair I paid about $5-$8.

A few years back, I was on a cruise looking for a seat to have lunch, I found a seat, and an expensive camera on the table. Instead of getting up to get food, I stayed in my seat to see if the person who left the camera would come back, I never touched to camera. Within 10 minutes a man came up and said that is my camera, I was sitting there before you. He took the camera and left. No thank you or nothing. I could have put it in my carry on bag, but I chose to be honest. I would have turned it in had he not came back.

Honest is the best policy to me. So sorry for your lost.

Nae

I would hope that if I misplaced an item that a stranger aboard the same ship would do what I would; hand it over to guest services. I guess some people just like a free upgrade though:rolleyes:. Sorry that some petty theft dampened your trip.

Every time I see a post with one of those little crawling bug things in the signature block, I end up swatting at my screen. I don't particularly like them but I guess some people do.

UGH - now if someone 'steals' that bug, I won't complain....they give me the heebie jeebies..I just won't read that post..

Doesn't RC have security cameras all over the public places? Most people remember a forgotten item within an hour or two. Why can't RC review the tapes within that time span and see what happened to that camera/purse/sunglasses/wallet, etc that was left on the table/chair/floor, etc?

Perhaps they don't really care if possessions get lost. It's refreshing to know that honest folks do turn things in. I certainly would......Karma...LOL....and it's the right thing to do :D

I don't think it's possible to cover every square inch of the ship with security cameras. I'm sure the revenue centers, bars, casino, pools, etc. are covered, but not every shot is going to be helpful in locating a thief.

I once found a cellphone sitting on a table in the broiling sun. It almost burned my hand when I went to pick it up. I tried to turn it on to get the owner's name but no luck. I turned it in but I think I was fried. :(

I left my visor and sunglasses at the WJ on Monarch some years ago. The visor was turned in to Guest Services, but the sunglasses, which were prescription Versace (and not all that expensive since I had a 50% off coupon, but still), were not:mad:. My only consolation was hoping that the person who kept them fell over a few times because they were progressive lenses, which many people find hard to adjust to.

Turned in so many items. Cameras, earrings, purse, memory cards.......hope it is good karma if we ever lose anything.:)

My Mother trained me to always look behind-- after I leave a spot and it has stuck with both of us now. Helps.......

Worked for us. My wife got a very nice sweater back after years of turning things in to Guest Services.:)

First of all they don´t have security cameras all over to Monitor every Inch of the ship and why should they?

But then even if they had them, what do you think how many People lose Little things every day. Reviewing those tapes is quite time consuming. I can´t see them doing this for every lost / misplaced item. In Addition if they reviewed the tape in the OP´s case and watch a passenger pick it up. How are they going to indentify him/her and even if they did, what´s next?

Why don't you just turn the signatures off?

The title was a little alarming. I envisioned some strong arm attack story to follow or a cabin was broken into.

Basically, you lost the item. How we classify the lack of return is up to you. This stuff happens everywhere and on every cruise.

Even Sat. I found an iphone in Kohl's (that was lost). I returned it to an employee as always, but not everyone will. I always pick up an item that is lost like this and turn it in to prevent others from taking and keeping it.

Maybe I should have left it sitting there.

oMG..while packing a few years ago on Explorer, I put some of my rings, (gold w/diamonds, emeralds), in the safe while it was open, intending to put them in my carry on when I would exit the ship. Well..I FORGOT them and didn't realize it until the next day after landing home in Indiana. I called the cruise line, never expecting to see them again, and gave her the info. She told me it would take a few days for the inventory left behind to go thru. She assured me that lots of expensive things get left behind a lot and get turned in. About a week later here comes a package in the mail with ALL MY JEWELRY!! I could not believe it! I wished after, that I had left my room steward much more $ than I tipped!!

That is a wonderful story! I have lost so much of my jewelry on my travels, but never on the ship, usually on the way home. Unfortunately I never got any of it back. It was nice to read that you did!

Someone else took them. I guess how you classify the fact that the item was not where it was left is up to you.

Why don't you just turn the signatures off?

Would be nice if we could selectively turn off signatures rather than all or nothing.

Back to the subject at hand....sort of. Not on a cruise but I found almost $300 in a money clip and I turned it in. The owner didn't seem the least bit appreciative.

I tend to be too trusting of people on cruises, so thanks for the reminder that you have to be aware of your stuff, even if you feel safe. Sorry that this happened to you!

Recently a Cruise Critic passenger's 10 year-old kid stole a watch only for her to be made a RCI for treating her kid like a thief. As long as our society tolerates the, "MAH BABY DIDN'T DO NOTHING!" we will have things stolen from under us.
