For those who have used RomeCabs

It seems to be the most popular transfer/tour company on these boards so I decided to use them to get from our hotel in Rome to the port and from the port to the airport....the cost is less than $10 difference from Celebrity's transfer price and it just seems we will be more comfortable.

That being said, when booking online there is a spot asking for a phone number working in Italy. I am sure it's in case you don't show or so the driver can get in touch, etc......have others simply listed their cell number and hoped they didn't get a $54 call from the driver(int'l charges) or did you add a small plan on your cell for the overseas travel time?

We use Verizon for our cell service. The have a plan that costs $4.99 a month (of course that is pro rated and we have never been away a month so it really ends up a couple of dollars). This plan allows us to have a discounted rate on oversea calls. I believe in Italy it is either $1.49 a minute or $1.99 a minute. Either way it makes a a relatively quick but important call affordable. Check your wireless provider and also make sure that your cell phone is global ready. Hope this helps!

I assume you could just leave that number blank, or perhaps put your hotel phone number. As to cell phones, since we routinely travel all over the world we have a very inexpensive MOBAL phone..which is a prepaid plan, has no monthly fees, is a bit expensive to use...and is perfect for emergencies and occasional calls. In fact, we got that phone about 6 years ago for $100 and they gave us a $100 of phone credits (so the phone was actually free). To date, we have only used about $70 of that time. Since there are no monthly fees we can just keep that phone in a drawer at home until we go overseas. MOBAL gives you a UK phone number..and works in over 200 countries. Unlike most phone carriers like Verizon...the MOBAL phone locks onto the strongest cell tower...regardless of which company owns that tower.

The service is terrific. We've used them several times. They can book up quickly as others can too so don't wait to book.

You can leave the space blank. Most cell phone plans allow you t add international calling without a fee or if there is one a small one. You still have to pay for the minutes but you can have it on for emergencies and such and this would be a good reason to have it just in case they need to get a hold of you or you need to call them. Sometimes good to add a small international text plan.
