harley48 Posted September 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Advise on companies/coverage that have been used if you are driving to a port NOT flying. Driving from SC to Miami, I have only found one company Seven Corners Insurance that covers you from the time your leave the house until you return. Carnival Coverage: Medical evacuation, etc. is barely anything.
Guest maddycat Posted September 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2014 I'd suggest that you contact the trip insurance store and discuss your needs with one of their agents. They're very knowledgeable and helpful. I've been buying our travel insurance through them for several years. http://www.tripinsurancestore.com/index.shtml

Why do you feel that you need door-to-door insurance coverage? In the worse case scenario, what could your uncovered costs be if you had a problem on the trip from SC to Miami and return? harley48 Posted September 7, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 7, 2014 Sorry I worded my question incorrectly. Yes we have car insurance, I just meant many of the of the policy on-line have the air overage which we don't need. I am more concerned about medical accidents out of the country coverage. Think I have narrowed it down to the company we will use. We have been on some 25+ cruises & are in our mid 60's knowing Medicare doesn't cover anything out of the US. Knock on wood we are both healthy right now but accidents do happen. I was a Tour Manager for a Tour Company for 25 yrs. escorting motor coach, air, train, cruises and international tours...had many unfortunate things happen to Srs. over the years. Thanks for to those who responded to my question.
Mr. Click Posted September 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2014 I would avoid Seven Corners/Tin Leg/Squaremouth.com. My own experiences with them were some where below terrible. Lots of promises, lots of apologies, very very very slow to settle our claim. Yes, they finally settled it but it took almost 3 months. insuremytrip.com will take the time to listen to your questions and provide some real answers. cherylandtk Posted September 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Insuremytrip is just a broker, as is Squaremouth. All they do is sell policies. (I do think you meant to say Trip Insurance Store will listen to your concerns, based on your post on the other thread) The actual policies are issued by Tin Leg or Seven Corners. Both of which may have reputations for excessive paperwork requirements and delays in paying claims, but that also tends to be what happens with other less costly policies 'for the same coverage'. You will not see those problems when making claims with the major policy issuers.

Carnival Coverage: Medical evacuation, etc. is barely anything. The major Travelex policies include coverage from 12:01 am on the departure date to go on your trip to the time you return. Departure does not mean just of a ship or a flight, it is the departure of your TRIP, which can include your car travel and hotel costs getting to the port. I am sure the other major insurers include something similar; call the Trip insurance Store for more advice, they are happy to walk clients through the options. Rare GeezerCouple Posted September 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 12, 2014 I'd suggest that you contact the trip insurance store and discuss your needs with one of their agents. They're very knowledgeable and helpful. I've been buying our travel insurance through them for several years. http://www.tripinsurancestore.com/index.shtml ^^ This. But CALL them, don't just read/compare policy summaries on their website. There can be lots of "fine print", and Steve and the others at TripInsuranceStore.com will discuss your preferences/needs to help you find the best policy for your situation. (They obviously can't do that if you do it all online.) Ask them specifically about the "door to door" type of coverage - starts when you leave home on your trip, and covers you until you return home. You need to make sure that you have the dates of coverage as the date you leave home until the date you return home. The policies we've had don't require that one get on/off a plane on those dates.
