How Splendid is SPLENDOR ? *** LIVE Report *** in Pictures and Ship Review 09/20/14

Hi fellow Cruisers,

Today I am trying a new thing.

Something that is new for me.

Live report!

We are currently on the Splendor.

So I would like to share with you how thing are going on.

I am not a storyteller.

My way is detailed technical reviews, pictures, videos.

I will try to follow my way: there will be more facts than comments.

I will post pictures, you will add stories.

There is really little time on the cruise for reviews.

I do apologize in advance if I am not able to answer specific questions about the ship.

Due to the nature of live reports the review will be a sort of fragmented.

Hope I will be able to add more structured review after the cruise.

Carnival Splendor (2008) is a well-known ship, but we never sailed on her before.

We have been attracted by the itinerary (New York – Boston – Portland – Saint John - Halifax) and by the departure port.

However, after a few hours on the Splendor I can say that the ship surpassed my expectation.

Let’s start.

I will focus on pictures.

If possible, I will try to upload short video fragments (time consuming).

This is our ship!

After all the procedures that took about 45 minutes we are boarding the ship to get rid of it all for 7 days!

Great pics so far. I hope you enjoy your cruise Cruistrail.

I just got off the Splendor yesterday. It was a great 7 day cruise. Great service, clean ship, good food, and good entertainment all around the ship. I enjoyed the Canada/New England itinerary. The temperature on the seas usually ranged between the low to high fifties. On land the temperature was in the middle sixties. Good weather in Boston, St. John and Halifax but it did rain in Portland. They had the roof covering the Lido deck most of the cruise. The leaves on the trees did not change yet, even in Canada.

Enjoy!

Thanks and keep the pictures/reports coming. We've been on Splendor three times this year and always enjoy her. Have a piece of dulce for me in Saint John. (It's dried seaweed they sell at the City Market and elsewhere in SJ, and is, as they say, an acquired taste.)

We're also cruising vicariously through you, as we had booked this week's Canada/New England cruise on Norwegian Gem, but they oversold and offered us a refund plus a future cruise credit equal to the fare we paid. Since we had some other issues to deal with, we reluctantly took the offer, but we really want to be on a ship.

We are on the ship.

Where to?

To Maitre D'!

There were like a hundred people in the line...

However...

Splendor is smiling to us:

So did Maitre D' Pablo.

It looked like he made everyone happy.

A first look at Splendor decor.

It's very "in line" with the tradition, but not killing at all!

Some places are really nice.

A few random pictures.

Carnival experts, do you remember these places?

A cascade of beautiful observation decks on Carnival Splendor.

It's hard to imagine a better ship for admiring New York scenery on sail away:

Introductory show - mostly aerobics...

Late night walk around the ship lead us to the central pool.

It was converted into the cinema.

Very inviting atmosphere.

There was pizza right there.

We avoid junk food on cruise ships..... but this pizza was so crusty, so juicy...

We tried it.

such a crime!!

Absolutely fabulous photos and review. Sailing on the Splendor in less than 3 weeks and am beyond excited. Cannot wait to see/read more.

Off to read your Allue of the Seas review as I will be on that ship next year. Thanks for taking the time out of your cruise to post.
