If you could add a feature to a ship, what would you add?

Nope, nope, nope. And in case I am being too vague, NOPE!

If Celebrity stoops to having one of those *#@&$* MUTS screens on their ships, I'm shipping out. I have zero need to be entertained every minute of every day of every week. My one cruise on Princess was my last. MUTS was so intrusive, especially at night, that it was impossible to take a nice, peaceful stroll around the upper decks without hearing that monstrosity nearly everywhere we were. And, during the day, they played sporting events, for crying out loud. I am not a sports addict, and found that kind of programming anything but relaxing. It's a shame when a cruise line insists on putting in intrusive devices to appease a few while disregarding the peace and quite of the majority. It was one of the several reasons why Princess gave me the feeling of being a low end cruise line. So the last thing I want Celebrity to be doing is dumbing down their experience. And that is exactly what these overrated things do.

As you can see, I am very passionate about these horrid things. There was nothing elegant, relaxing, or peaceful when they are turned on - which seemed every waking minute of every day.

No, not for me. If I wanted to watch TV, I'd just save my money and stay home and do it for free.

I totally agree!!

I wouldn't mind MUTS if they played One or Two movies one or two nights a week and turned it OFF the rest of the time.

I'm just waiting for it to start showing ads all day, you know, "don't miss out on gold by the inch". But wait there's more .:mad:

I feel the same way about MUTS, but my objection to it is totally theoretical, as I have never seen or experienced it. What I have seen are the effects of it - or at least what I believe are the effects. On our March 2014 Caribbean Princess cruise, I found way too much going on in the "Centrum" -- music (often way too LOUD), dancing, children's games and competitions, etc. -- and I assumed all this ruckus occurred in this location because it could not occur on the pool deck (where such activities occurred on other non-Princess cruises I have taken) because it would conflict with MUTS. It is possible, though, that these noisy and disturbing activities would have taken place at the Centrum even if there were no MUTS -- I can't say.

And I am not a pool deck person, but if I were, ooh... I would definitely be in your camp! The only pools I might have used on CB were the spa or the aft pool, which are well away from MUTS. I, too, like to take a quiet outdoor walk on board ship, and on Princess ships, I do this on the promenade deck -- again, well away from MUTS! If there had been no wraparound promenade deck where MUTS avoidance was possible, I would not have been on a Princess ship!

I would not go as far as you did to say that Princess "insists on putting in intrusive devices to appease a few while disregarding the peace and quiet of the majority." I am not sure that you and I, and others who may dislike MUTS, are in the majority. Princess seems to be doing fine, and if most disliked MUTS, they would, like you, "jump ship." I am afraid that until that happens, MUTS is here to stay.

The only reason I chose to try Princess was because after doing some serious research I was confident I could have my normal onboard experience without ever having to be annoyed by MUTS, and indeed I did, except for the possible secondary effect on the Centrum. Do I want to have to try to avoid MUTS on any other cruise line? Decidedly NOT!

I am even disturbed by the idea that there is now background music everywhere on Celebrity ships! I do not remember that when we sailed on Infinity in 2006, but I hear it is everywhere now. I, like you, want a quiet, peaceful ship atmosphere. So even though we liked Celebrity the first time, and have thought about revisiting it, now I am undecided!

Hmmm...wonder if that would be anywhere near the "naughty room" where they keep smuggled booze...sounds like it could be fun! :)

No they would have to go and sit on hard wooden benches, no TV, no iPads, ipods and alike and they would just have to sit and listen to one another....that is if they could shut up long enough to listen. At the end of each day survivors would be released.:D

I don't understand how the cabin would become overcrowded. If I stepped in a time machine it would zip me back to the beginning of the cruise again. The clothes part I hadn't thought that through carefully, just pack more and have a big laundry bill.

I really have no idea why I'm responding other than this one had me laughing, but if you travelled in time to the beginning of the cruise, wouldn't it be before you wore your clothes, so they would be clean anyway???

It is getting harder and harder to find a ship with a true cigar lounge. This is my way of relaxing after a long day. A nice scotch and a Padron. Smoking a fine cigar out on deck is not always what I am looking for.

I don't know if all RCI ships have them, but when we did Mariner of the Sea awhile back they had a cigar & scotch bar.

It's part of the time travel paradox. Your old self would still be there so there would be two of you there. Then, at the end of the cruise both of you will want to travel back to the beginning of the cruise so then you'll have your old original self, plus the second time traveler, plus the pair of you for a total of 4 of you. It'll keep going forever and there will be an infinite number of you.

Well, that was always my feeling as well that my clothes would be fresh and clean waiting for me. But, apparently there's a bit more to it. Wow and I thought Dynamic Dining was challenging.

I love time travel stories, but, this is all very confusing. Well, I suppose if there were four of me strolling around the ship I would never be late to an event. I would just have to hope that the other two or three of me weren't at the same place at the same time. "Uh..that's my twin brother Bill...and my other brother Dave...hm, Cousin Fred?"

Maybe the ship hopping idea is better. The three of me could stay behind on Quantum for example and I could zip over to the world cruise on the Queen Mary 2.

I think we are beginning to develop the plot of a very interesting novel here -- anyone a writer? :)

I would like an under water observatory area.

How about a cruise submarine with large picture windows everywhere. Since it would have to cruise at relatively shallow depths where there would still be enough light to see outside, the pressure against the windows could be manageable.

All balcony cabins would have an air lock, and scuba gear would be provided so people could spend time on their balconies watching the aquatic life go by.

Not sure about lounging out by the pool on the upper deck, however. :D

I would like:

A true movie theater showing current releases - just like on land with power recliners and food and beverage service similar to IPIC or Look Cinemas. I would not mind paying extra to buy tickets for this.

Chef-driven specialty restaurants where that the food is reflective of the particular chef's style. I would especially like a seafood restaurant such as Roy's Restaurant and a sushi restaurant that includes rolls without rice wrapped in rice paper or cucumber. Right now, most cruise lines only offer basic rolls such as California Roll or Tuna Roll. I would think that most people who normally eat sushi are past these basic offerings and a better experience could be provided.

Suites with a hot tub for 2 - 4 people on the suites' balcony.

Owner's suites with a small private pool cantilevered off the side of the ship -similar to the pools in the Sky Villas at the Palms Casino Resort.

Walk through changeable maze(so you never have the same experience twice) that can be converted to a Haunted House for Halloween, used for an Easter Egg hunt at Easter, but also used as a maze for the rest of the year with challenges - such as speed challenges.

Cooking competitions for guests to participate in during the day in the main theater.

Dance Heads Photo Booth

IMAX Theater

I want clocks in the cabin...with numbers large enough for us to read when not wearing our glasses (like when you wake up in the middle of the night).

I want the option of turning off the ship-wide announcements either in our cabin or just outside the door in the hallway (when I am sleeping late, I really don't care that bingo is starting in 20 minutes).

I agree about the ship gently enforcing the minimum dress codes...if most people know they will not be granted entry to a dining area, they will try to dress accordingly.

Yes, large digital clocks would be nice, as long as they don't light up the room as some I have seen in hotel rooms do.

Not sure what cruise lines you cruise with, but the ones that I cruise on don't pipe announcements into the staterooms. Only emergency announcements will be heard in all public and in private areas. Otherwise, the staterooms are blissfully quiet. Plus, there is only one announcement per day, usually around noon, and usually by the captain announcing were we are, what the weather is like today and will be the next day, and a bit about our next port of call. NO announcements EVER for bingo, gold sales, spa discounts, pool games, etc.

We can always hear the daily announcement if we wish by tuning into the appropriate channel on the in room TV.

I also agree with enforcing whatever rules they have established as long as they are publicized. EVERYONE should have to abide with the same rules equally - no one should be able to ignore them for their own convenience.

I know ships nowadays have a ton to do for all ages and it seems greedy to ask for more, but there are many features I don't use simply because they are not my thing.

I would love to see a real running track around a deck....could be elevated over the top deck so it's not really taking up space.

I would also love a lazy river around a deck. My wife and I had season passes to a local water park for nothing more than the lazy river.

What would you like to see on a ship?

I think a separate area for a running/walking track would be great! My husband and I walk the track daily for exercise, but it is difficult to do in an area with sunbathers, etc. I don't want to intrude on their activity, either. I really don't know what else can be added that hasn't with the newer ships! My husband and I do not partake in a lot of the activities offered (rock climbing and Flow Rider as examples) but we love watching our grandchildren and others use them! I also would like ships to be totally smoke-free, but that may be unrealistic, and very difficult for smokers.

Carnival Cruise Line had a smoke-free ship for a few seasons. I think it was the Paradise (and it was heavenly not to worry about walking around a corner and running into a cloud of smoke, especially in the casino). We went on it several times and loved it. Obviously, it was not a big money-maker for Carnival, or they could not find enough non-smokers to fill out the crew, because they dropped the smoke-free program. Our loss!
