CruisingWithMyHoney Posted September 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2014 I am hoping someone that has been on the Celebrity Reflection has knowledge on the internet speed, availability, etc. My husband's business requires him to have internet at all times so that he can communicate with his employees and be able to do some trouble shooting. Thank you in advance for getting back to me.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. The best place to post all of your Celebrity Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruise Ship specific questions is on the Celebrity Board and this link will take you directly there. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=28 Keith
Rare 1025cruise Posted September 26, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Can't speak for Celebrity, but generally speaking, internet on board the ship will be slow and expensive. You better hope your hubby's company is willing to pay him for his time.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2014 The Reflection has the same internet provider as the other ships in the fleet. Internet is provided by a Satellite data link. The ship reserves sufficient bandwidth for their own use and then allots the remainder to passengers. The nature of the limited satellite bandwidth is that onboard internet service is very slow...and many times even slower then very slow. We cruise all over the world with Celebrity and other lines and find the internet connection is OK to retrieve and send e-mails, but the speed is so slow (and the cost high for those who must pay) that it makes sense to do all your e-mail stuff off line and then logon when you are ready to send and receive. Keep in mind that the cost is about 50 cents a minute (the actual cost depends on how many minutes you purchase) and it can sometimes take several minutes to simply get logged on to your e-mail provider. kitty9 Posted September 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2014 I have cruised Reflection and the other Celebrity ships and from experience the internet on board isn't great and very expensive. There will be times when service isn't available at all, sometimes for hours on end. I hope your husband doesn't need to download or upload anything because that can take a very long time. Depending on the amount of info on the download, it could take 10 to 20 minutes or more to upload anything of significance. The charge is 65 cents a minute, but you can lower that by purchasing a block of minutes for a set price, again not cheap. Wifi isn't any better than using the ship's laptops and sometimes getting a signal in parts of the ship is impossible.
JanineM Posted September 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Your husband may want to look into a satellite phone is he simply must be available all the time. And even sat phones can be unreliable. Most of us love the fact that we're unreachable when on a cruise. :)
