DrJW Posted September 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Why does O and other cruise lines typically send cruise documents to TA rather than passengers? It tends to slow down the receiving process. At that times TA have these completed documents sitting on their desks prior to forwarding them! Is this done so the TA can 'earn his keep' and proofread the documents? Passengers can read and easily do this :) Is it to send the TA their commission along with documents? Curious? Thanks! Rare LHT28 Posted September 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) My TA just has mine sent to me direct from O I am sure your TA could arrange it for you The final docs come by email the cruise planner booklet usually comes 4-6 weeks prior to the cruise in the old days the documents went to the TA to check & make sure they were correct plus most people dealt with their local TA but now with the internet your TA could be anywhere in the world ;) I could be wrong but I do not think the cruise lines send paper cheques anymore for the commission ;) Edited September 30, 2014 by LHT28
StanandJim Posted September 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2014 More to the point, it is up to the Travel Agents discretion where the Documents will go (i.e to the client direct or via the Agent). It sounds like somebodies Agent isn't doing a very good job of communicating.
orchestrapal Posted September 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2014 For years the docs were sent to us Fed EX by our TA. More recently they come directly from O in a see-through plastic bag (that many have complained about) by regular US Mail. You could almost think it's just another unimportant mailing from O. Something not quite as impressive or exciting as that Fed EX package arriving announcing your next cruise is near.
potterhill Posted September 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Ours came by FedEx last week. I am out of town and DH had to go pick them up. Pita as it's on the other side of the city. Plain mail would have been waiting in the box. ;-) I'm just glad I'm going somewhere warm. Mo Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
newbie60 Posted September 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2014 It took three cruises for our TA to convince O to send us the documents direct. They kept saying 'yes' but didn't follow through.

Rare terry&mike Posted September 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Getting ready to sail on our first O cruise, our docs came by mail straight from O. I got the impression that this was designated by our travel agent to O early on in our booking, for the docs to come directly to us.

And each time he told them to send directly to us and they didn't, he got additional OBC for us.

jakes47 Posted September 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Our TA likes to double check all cruise docs – then wallets them together with all non cruise air, accommodation, transfer and tour vouchers. When I pick them up she then goes through each again with me. We usually get them 2 weeks before departure. I like it that way as if anything goes wrong they take on the responsibility of resolving the problem.
