Sky Suites

I'm just wondering my DW and have never sailed Celebrity only Carnival, is the sky suites worth the money, my DW is more to staying in the room at night after dinner and stuff and wants to sit in the tub. We're in our mid 30s is the summit a good ship for our first cruise or is there a better ship? How much of a deposit do you need?

If he likes to stay in and wants a tub I would look at suites. There are some videos on youtube you can look at. And it is possible someone will come along with picturs for you. Also 6145 is a nice S1 and the sister cavin across the hall on M class.

The upper suites, above sky suite seem a bit more loved, if you can do that.

I love the S class sky suites, but have not been on the M or summit class.

The newer ships are S class and I would recommend their sky suites for sure.

The deposit will depend on the price of your cruise, if it is your first onboard.

Hi and welcome to the Celebrity board. I also see you're a Saints fan and as you can tell by my signature I clearly am too.

Sky suites (in particularly the S1 aft sky suites on the S class ships) are what we like to book. We'll be in one in 2-1/2 weeks!!!!

We like the extra space in the room and the location on the S class. We love looking out the back of the ship on sail-ins and sail-aways, and the corner location gives us a view on one entire side and the entire back. We spend as much time as possible out and about the ship but it *is* nice to have a little more breathing/walking room when you're back in the cabin.

We also like that as suite passengers we can eat in Blu instead of the main dining room. However, if it's your first Celebrity cruise you may want to eat in the MDR just for the experience.

You'll get a free dinner in a specialty restaurant as one of your perks. (2 on longer cruises).

We're pretty independent and don't use the butler probably to full advantage, and we rarely have questions or needs from him or the cabin steward (you get both in a suite -- the butler takes care of YOU and the steward takes care of the cabin).

But we do like the coffee/tea/teatime goodies service every afternoon in the room. Particularly if we've had a long port day and skipped lunch for some reason.

If you book for after April, suites will have their own dedicated restaurant for all 3 meals and we're looking forward to seeing that.

This is all just my opinion having sailed in quite a few S1s on S class and in only one on M class. And - we've never sailed in anything higher than sky suite and doubt we would unless we were traveling as a group and wanted a big room to all gather in. I mean, we don't need a piano or a big dining table or two bathrooms or sofa seating for 8-for the two of us!

I think you'll find many differences between Carnival and Celebrity. You'll be in the younger age group but there are MANY even younger who prefer Celebrity. There isn't the push to make you join in this and that, and there is only one 10 minute announcement late morning, in the public rooms. Love that!! The schedule (Celebrity Today) is on your bed every evening and the assumption is made that passengers will read it and not need constant reminding. As a non-smoker I love that everything indoor is smoke free (yes even the casino --- everything) and on balconies, and that only a small handful of places allow smoking on the decks.

Keep reading on these boards and you'll get a good feel. But remember less than 10% of people on any given cruise will have ever even heard of cruise critic. So it's a somewhat skewed, albeit knowledgeable and enthusiastic, group here.

I would agree with hulamoon for her suggestion. The choice of 6145 or 6146 across the hall are both wonderful options. If soaking in the tub is high on your list, then these bathrooms (on M-Class ships) have the nicest Sky Suite bathroom available. Both staterooms are the connecting Sky Suite staterooms to the penthouse (PH) next door. I just wrote a post on this topic on a similar thread about sky suites. See this link that contains the the posted comments and a link to a room review for 6145 on the Constellation (sister ship to Summit) along with some pictures.

Yes, an M-Class ship is a great start on Celebrity's fleet for your first cruise with Celebrity. That is how I started... well, technically I was on Century first, but then went to Millennium for two cruises before going to the Reflection. And next I will be going on a 16 day transatlantic on the Constellation. If you have only ever been on Carnival, then having a suite on Celebrity will be a vastly different upgraded cruising experience for you. It may be hard to go back to sailing in non-suite staterooms. I will find out how hard that is in a couple weeks after previously sailing on two cruise lines, both in suites (see cruise history below in signature).

The S-Class ships are as amazing and breathtakingly beautiful as you have probably read or heard about. However, I truly love the classic design and decor of the M-Class ships, the beautiful grand foyer, the incredible aft main dining room (MDR), the retreat for adults in the Solarium complete with a salt water thelassotherapy (T-pool), and the intimate feel of all the venues. Plus there are 3 different sets of stairwells and elevator banks to make navigating around the ship very easy.

In fact, here is a link from a YouTube video that I frequently share with people on Cruise Critic when they are thinking/debating about going on an M-Class ship. The video features the Summit, but is representative of the other M-Class ships (Millennium, Infinity, or Constellation).

And just for some variety, I have included a link to a thread about Aqua Class Suite 2109 on the Reflection, which is the room I booked from Nov 2013. A wonderful cruise, with a stateroom about the same size as the Sky Suites on the Reflection, but with Aqua Class upgrades. Unfortunately, those Aqua Class Suites will turn into category S1 Sky Suites soon. Here is a link to page 4 of that review where I included some pictures starting in Post # 64.

Hope this helps to shed some light on Celebrity for you. Enjoy your cruise!

Would you say you were bored on any of the ships, or was there enough to do?

I am personally not "bored" when I go on a cruise. However, what is important or fun or entertaining for me may not be your cup of tea.

Have you never been on Celebrity for a cruise? Not sure what you want in a cruise and not sure anyone can comment on that questions without at least knowing more about you as person, your interests and desires for your future cruise.

Do you know how much of a deposit you need?

Assuming that you are taking a 7 night cruise on the Summitt, your deposit for a Suite will be $500 ($250 pp).

If your wife likes to retire to the bathtub after dinner, the Summit will be fine. Even if she gets a wild hair and stays out after dinner, there is plenty to do on the ship at night. ;)

I was going to start a thread and just saw this. I have asked my TA to look into a suite upgrade for our upcoming cruise. I was at the X website and saw this

reflection-suite2.jpg

Silly question .... but can you use your shower in port? I mean, i imagine it's designed in a such a way that if your neighbour is showering at the same time, they can't see you .... but what about while in port? Are these suites so high up that it doesn't matter?

Hello,

The summit is a very nice ship. I really think you will enjoy it. It isn't as large or grand as the S class ships, but it has many of the "bells and whistles that the larger ships have." I have stayed in the S class suites as well as the Celebrity suites on that ship. If you can afford it, do the suites. In addition to a more comfortable stateroom with excellent storage and butler service, you will receive many perks, and very soon, if not already, the ship will have a special dining room for all suite guests. This will be (supposed to) a few steps above the MDR and Blu.

As far as a deposit, it varies as the ship offers specials that might include a reduced deposit and other perks like a free drink package which is a wonderful perk.

The picture above appears to be the Reflection Suite, only available on the reflection and very costly.

Enjoy your cruise.

We're looking at 2016, my DW and I leave on Carnival next month out of PR, we like it but don't get much extra with a suite, we're not into partying, she says I pick the cruise she picks the stateroom. We'll go out to dinner, see a show that sortve thing. For this cruise next month, we booked it last October and paid it down the rest of the year. We dont have kids.

The deposit amount varies.

Minimum Deposit Requirements:

Length of Cruise Deposit Required*

1–5 Nights $100 USD per person

6–8 Nights $250 USD per person

9 Nights or longer $450 USD per person

*Penthouse, Royal and Celebrity Suites require double

the deposit amounts listed above.

Signature and Reflection Suites on Reflection would also require a double deposit.

As was mentioned there is some times an offer of a 50% reduced deposit but this does not apply to Penthouse, Royal, Celebrity, Signature and Reflection Suites.

Only suites have tubs BTW. Some have a combined tub/shower and some have a separate tub & shower. Other categories of cabins have showers only.

Sky Suites do not require a double deposit and you get one night free in a specialty restaurant for a 7 night cruise. If you book on line you will have to pay the full price and will get a ship board credit once you board. There is also a number on your reservation that you can call to avoid the up front charge. After April 2015 they will also have their own dedicated suites restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

The tub is big enough to soak in but there are no jets in them.

So it's better to call Celebrity to book to avoid paying the whole cruise fare? If I understood you correctly?

You only pay the "whole cruise fare" if you are booking after final payment.

Not necessarily better to call Celebrity, you could go through a travel agent, or book on line (if the website is working) or phone Celebrity, the details of the booking and pricing and deposit will be the same.

The comment about avoiding the upfront charge referred to the Specialty Restaurant perk.

Oh I gotcha sorry, we usually book a year out anyways. So no need to worry about making a whole payment. Anything else to know about the Summit? I hope they have Coke, what kind of shows do they have?

I recommend that you query for some threads for recent sailings on summit and do some reading so you can see what people have been saying.

Hello NOSAints1

The Summit is a great ship. The Martini Bar is a great place to hang out for before and after drinks. Your DW might not want to go to the room after. It was a great experience.

The shows we went to are OK. The comedian they had was pretty good. All ages one night and then an adults show really late on the 2nd last night of the cruise.

And yes they do serve Coke.

P.S. Go Seahwaks!!! ;)
