hallasm Posted November 3, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted November 3, 2014 Unfortunately the band width of the internet at this sailing does not allow for upload of videos or pictures - so my planned uploads must wait until next week. Stay tuned. A short review of day 1 Finally November 2, 2014 and the time for Quantum of the Seas maiden voyage from Southampton to Cape Liberty, NJ. We arrived at Southampton City terminal at noon. We dropped the suitcases, got the RFID stickers attached so we could track the luggage, dropped it and went into the departure hall. Here was it reasonably chaotic! The check-in was not well managed resulting in long queues. Obviously the staff really didn't know what to do. Good the this is the only Quantum of the Seas departure from Southampton and that the facilities in Bayonne are suited for a smooth check-in Finally, after one hour we could board the ship, but also here the queues were longer than expected and the staff not good enough prepared.. The good news was that our cabin was ready when we came aboard - a key was outside the cabin with our name and the WoWband was waiting inside After having inspected the cabin, we did have lunch in the Windjammer marketplace. In the afternoon we was walking around the ship - A tour down the Royal Esplanade - great experience. An amazing ship We checked also the Various restaurants. Back in the cabin we unpacked our suitcases and made the last reservation using the Royal iQ App. After a little more chaotic start than expected it looks like it will be an amazing cruise - Quantum of the Seas appears to be a fantastic ship Unfortunately the internet does not have the expected bandwidth for this trip, so I cannot upload the videos - expect to upload starting from next Monday. Also in general the IT systems onboard were not fully reliable causing some problem and longer queues. There are over 100 IT specialists onboard to fix the problems. Hopefully the majority will be fixed before next departures.
hallasm Posted November 5, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Managed to get the first video uploaded - Departure from Southampton and some pictures from the ship - many more to come. Internet bandwith has improved and Royal iQ is working. All passengers got a fair compensation for the start-up problems at check-in. Excellent cruise and excellent ship. watch the short video - many more to come.

Cruisecriticmember345 Posted November 5, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Wonderful video! Thank you for taking the time to make and post it. My wife and I will be cruising on the Qunatum in Feb 2015 to the Eastern Caribbean. I have never really done any video work but would like to explore it. Would you mind sharing what equipment and software you use to make and edit your videos? Thanks
ChristieNJ Posted November 5, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2014 GREAT video, thank you for posting! We will be onboard on December 1st. QUESTION: Do you need to subscribe to their wifi package in order to use the Royal IQ app?

hallasm Posted November 6, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted November 6, 2014 To all - thank you for the comments - I hope to get more videos in the next few days - bandwith is improving and for cruises out of Bayonne from next week, when the O3b network technology is in place there will be much more bandwidth. GREAT video, thank you for posting! We will be onboard on December 1st. QUESTION: Do you need to subscribe to their wifi package in order to use the Royal IQ app? Christie: No - the Royal iQ just need registration at no costs - access to internet is for a fee. Royal iQ has improved over the last days - more that 100 IT people working to improve the IT systems.

ChristieNJ Posted November 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 6, 2014 One more question....I understand the Royal IQ app has communication functionality for other members of your party onboard, and that there is a "nominal fee" for this service. Do you know what that fee is? Would love to stay connected to the rest of my family onboard instead of searching the ship when plans change at the last second  lol

Thanks for posting! How were you able to make a reservation for that....does it have to be onboard or can you do it before your cruise? And was there a cost? hallasm Posted November 8, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Great NorthStar video!!! Thanks for posting! How were you able to make a reservation for that....does it have to be onboard or can you do it before your cruise? And was there a cost? At this cruise you just had to queue - no reservation possible and at no cost. Don't think it will change.
