bigque Posted October 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2014 For those that have been to Aruba before???? I was just wondering if there is something to do in the evening off the ship, like after we finished our early seating dinner as we are in Aruba till midnight. OCruisers Posted October 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2014 Take a taxi to Palm Beach. It's the "FUN" place to go in the evening. :D LuLu

lacruiser Posted October 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2014 Last year we did a sunset sail from Palm Beach, and it was lovely. The beach was awesome at night, with lots of restaurants with outdoor seating. Lucky you to be there so late!
cruiseapril Posted October 28, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2014 We took a taxi up to the Radisson on Palm Beach. Casino, bar, restaurants etc.

OCruisers Posted October 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2014 It's easy taking taxis back & forth to Palm Beach. There'll be no problem getting back to the ship in time ... just keep in mine the possibility of heavy traffic. ;) LuLu
Ocean Boy Posted October 28, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) It is interesting to hear that Adventure is staying in Aruba until midnight again. It has been a number of years since that happened. The year that we stayed until midnight we planned to see other parts of the island and then see the area around the port at night. However, many things around the port closed around 6 PM and there was not much to do right in the port area. I think it was the only sail-a-way that I have ever missed because I was asleep. On other cruises that we did on Adventure the ship departed at 8PM and that turned out to be a better departure time in my opinion, of course. OCruisers Posted October 28, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 28, 2014 The Sunset Catamaran Sails which are sometimes offered in Aruba for late evening sailings is another possibility. LuLu

Langley Cruisers Posted October 29, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 29, 2014 Well now I'm bummed our Jewel stop is only 8-5 next year. :( Don't be bummed at all. Aruba is one of the prettiest ports we have ever been to. Incredible beaches, powdery white sand... lovely. Getting in that early, you can go to the beach before the crowds get there. I love swimming early in the day, it's fun. :)
julesbeara Posted October 29, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2014 Iguana Joe's in town near the ship and has a good atmosphere, great drinks & killer Caribbean ribs. The Alhambra Casino & Shops (low rise hotel area) is about 10 minutes from the ship via taxi.... restaurants, bars & stores to explore. There is also a fun Cuban restaurant in the downtown area where the ship ports. We spent a week in Aruba this past July and the west end of the island was very crowded in the evenings as the High Rise Resort area has hotels that hold 15K+ people. bigque Posted October 29, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted October 29, 2014 This sounds like an exciting port! We have never been to a port where we have stayed all day. We get there at 8 AM. So it looks like we will be able to do the beach, shop, go back to the ship and go back out at night. I think we might eat ashore for dinner since we have not had that opportunity on other cruises.
vegasbrew Posted October 29, 2014 #16 Share Posted October 29, 2014 The night life isn't the only thing to do in Aruba. Try trikesaruba.com, if you want an island tour and can drive a three wheel motorcycle it is the best excursion offered not including water. We have our second island tour planned for January and cannot wait to take our shipmates to enjoy this extremely wonderful tour.
LovesCruising Posted October 29, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 29, 2014 If I were in port til Midnight I would definitely eat dinner on land. We try to go to Aruba every year - many many great restaurants. I would go to visitaruba.com or aruba.com - there is always restaurantsaruba.com I believe. There are 2 Casinos in town - Seaport and Crystal If you go down to Palm Beach - maybe a 10 min Taxi ride. Some great restaurants - Passions on the Beach - Eagle Beach Papiamento Madam Janettes We did not find El Gaucho up to our previous expectations - try Davids Steakhouse on Palm Beach for Italian - Love Giavanni's - across from Radisson on Palm Beach - walk over to Radisson afterwards - great Martini Bar
Harleygirl77 Posted October 31, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 31, 2014 If you are looking for a great on-shore restaurant - try Que Pasa - and it is not a Mexican restaurant It is Dutch food w/ a Aruba flair. It is off the beaten path, but worth the trip and yes it is within walking distance from the port. Or even Driftwood is good (although I have not been there in a few years). I agree look at http://www.resturantsaruba.com - this site offers current customer reviews.
