Just heard back from Carnival Casino

I asked the powers that be if I was eligible for free drinks on the Breeze in a couple of weeks. The answer was NO. This summer I played blackjack for several hours each day of an 8 day cruise, always above the table minimum, many times playing 2 spots. I also won the blackjack tournament.

What the heck do I have to do to get a few measly drinks?

From everything I have read on these boards it seems there is no rhyme or reason to their program. I spend a decent amount every time I cruise and last time spent enough to get the drink card and all I got under the casino rate is $50 when I board. I have heard of people spending less getting the drink card. But when you find out the answer, let me know :D

ask to see the casino host while your playing and introduce yourself it never hurts to let them know what makes you happy while on-board...also you can ask the table games floor person to make sure they rate your play so you can earn points towards drinks....

I have not yet received the free drink card but have received many free drinks while playing I guess they like my play because I received good casino rates for both cruises I took this year and also received the $100 cruise offer but cant take the time off...I hope I get it again in a few months...

My wife ALWAYS gets the "free drink card" when cruising. She plays ONLY slots, and won't tell me how much she's losing, so I can't answer your query. As a matter of fact, I don't think I want to know!!!!!

Takes 1500 points to get the card (IIRC it's 1000 on the short cruises). A point is $2.50.

YMMV.

Email From the Casino after we asked about comps for our next one:

1,500 points for free drinks on the same cruise you accumulate the points.

We comp off of points. To accumulate one point on regular slots you need $2.50 of coin-in, on video poker it is $5.00 of coin-in to received 1 points. We require a minimum of 2,500 points to be eligible for any cash comps.

We spend a lot of money in the casino - I usually get the free drink card towards the end of the cruise but this last cruise both my hubby and I kept track on exactly how much we spent (we play both tables and slots). We hardly get anything as a comp on our next cruise (a basket in our room) no cash comp, and definitely not a free cruise. We take 2-4 cruises a year and from now on won't be spending so much time in the casino there. We can have just as much fun else where and save a lot of money.

Hope this helps.

Way different from visiting a land-based casino where you push the button on the machine and your drink arrives momentarily, huh?

I only play slots and get the card near the end of the cruise. I find it interesting that I got a premier cruise offer a couple of months ago with a big onboard credit etc. that I couldn't take advantage of. The cruise I did take I got enough points near the end to get the card, but it wasn't given to me as it was on the Dream when it was in Pt Canaveral.

The casino host was too busy with the high rollers to even have the deluxe package I was supposed to receive from the casino delivered to us. After that one, I asked about the next one and was told I would only receive a standard bon voyage package.

This cruise coming up, I think it's not worth gambling much in the casino as I seem to not be one of those who claim to spend little and get free cruises all the time. By the way, our Premier cruise offer was NOT a free cruise, but was at a reduced rate and would have given the OBC.

I questioned why I was offered the Premier offer and no explanation was given--well really no one answered my email because now you can't talk to anyone. So be it, I will not spend the money I usually do and use it at a casino in NY when we go back up there. No loss to me as I win at that one, lol.

The table rating systems have been a mystery to me as well. I will get comped a drink from time to time but have never received the Drinks on Us card from table play. Only from slot play.

What I do know about being rated for table play is, they rate you based on theoretical loss. While my numbers may be off here as far as odds and things, I think this is loosely how they figure it:

If you are playing two hands at a time at $10/hand, you are playing $20 per hand total. They have a pre-determined (I think) number of hands per hour that they calculate that by. With that, they also have a theoretical loss for each game....let's say blackjack has a 95% pay back with perfect strategy...that's close but it depends on the rules of the game. Different rule sets change the pay back. So, with each hand, your theo loss is $1 or .50 per hand. If you play for one hour, maybe they calculate that they deal 60 hands per hour so your theo loss would be $60 per hour.

At this rate, you would need about 25 hours of table play to reach the 1500 points....which would only give it to you for that particular cruise and not subsequent trips as far as I know.

Again, the numbers above are made up by me. I'm sure they are different on the ship but I believe the formula they use is similar.

I play about 90% tables and 10% slots. When playing tables, no matter if on land or sea, I ALWAYS make a $1.00 bet for the dealer...ALWAYS...EVERY HAND and every roll on Roulette. I also chat it up with the pit boss. After a couple hours the pit boss is buying my drinks. They like it when you take care of their dealers. Doesn't matter if its Vegas, my local casinos or on a ship. I follow the same rule. BTW I only play $5 per hand.

I think if you don't go into it acting all cocky like you got big bucks (that you really don't have) you'll make friends with the pit boss better. A few times by the about the 3rd day the casino manager gave me the DOU card.
