WarEagleLady Posted November 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Hello! I am going on the Explorer for my first New Years cruise in a month! My question is.. how is a New Years cruise different from other cruises? Are there any special events or shows? Thanks!
Ken at the beach Posted November 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Formal night will be NYE. Hats and noisemakers handed out. Free champagne for midnight. Usually several parties going on. Pool deck and balloon drop. No special shows.
sddsddean Posted November 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Did this a few years ago on the Explorer. NYE is a formal night. You get hats and party poppers and the waiters all gathered on the staircase and 'sang'. This was dessert. As said, there was free champagne and a big party on the Royal Promenade (which was rammed!), so we went up into the sports bar (so we at least had a seat) and got the bar manager there to switch the TV feed to the Royal Promenade, so we could see what was going on. Had free champagne up there too. Simon
Trainman52 Posted November 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2014 We did it on the Explorer in 2008 for our 35th anniversary. Unfortunately the seas were the roughest that we had ever encountered. They tell me that the promenade was great but that people were rocking and rolling everywhere (we were in our cabin praying). I will not go into any more detail. Yes, hats (which I still have) and maybe noisemakers. Have a great time.
cruisegirl1 Posted November 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2014 We sailed the Freedom two NYE ago and a Celebrity ship (two week cruise) last NYE and have the Freedom booked for this year. I echo all of the above events and it really is a festive cruise. The two previous NYE cruises had lots of folks from other countries, and that made it interesting for us. We met lots of people who spend a week on land in the US and then take a one week or two week cruise. The parties are fun and go into the early morning hours. If you are a college football fan, it is great to watch "your team bowl game" on the big screen at the pool. The cruise is great (or at least the two NYE we've been on ) but the prices are high but worth it for us. I hope you give it a try. Enjoy M
Dave85 Posted November 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) I echo everything said above. In addition, it's worth noting that this is a very big family cruise week, which is great if you're cruising as a family group (and not so great if that isn't what you're looking for). Very expensive week as others have noted. I really enjoyed doing a number of NYE cruises, but DW and I have since decided that the high cost and higher passenger capacity (due to increased use of 3rd and 4th berths) doesn't really make the investment worth it for us anymore (and frees up more money to spend on cruises the rest of the year :D). So much fun though, have a great time OP! Edited November 18, 2014 by Dave85
RocketMan275 Posted November 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Had a friend who took a NYE cruise and loved it. Said there were some very rough looking folks on disembarkation day which was New Years Day.
MKESail Posted November 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2014 We took a New Years cruise this last New Year on board Indy and absolutely loved it :) Like people said, balloons in the Promenade with the countdown to the New Year, free champagne, noise makers, hats, etc. The biggest party was the one in the Promenade but there were others all over the ship as well. You will enjoy it, I am sure :)
Barbiegator Posted November 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Have enjoyed New Year's Eve cruises the last 2 years with family. So much fun we have planned another one this year. It is an expensive time to cruise so that is why we are on Carnival Sunshine this year. We have been on this ship before and love their dining options and casino. Freedom is great as celebration takes place in promenade. Enchantment celebration takes place in centrum so not as much room but great balloon drop.Makes for a safe and fun party for all ages.
