SeaWatch Posted December 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2014 I am excited that Celebrity is building 2 new ships! Any speculation on what ports would be in the 'small ship itinerary' category?
Bobocasey Posted December 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Lets hope someplace where Celebrity doesn't currently go to. Tired of the same itineraries.

dkjretired Posted December 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Would love to see it but wondering how Celebrity gets around the laws of physics.
capecodder2 Posted December 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 6, 2014 117,000 tons and 2900 passengers is not my definition of a "small ship". That is about the same number of passengers on a slightly smaller ship than the S class. Cant see where that is going to mean it can get into smaller ports. Rare ghstudio Posted December 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2014 The new ships are only very slightly smaller than the current solstice class ships. For the most part, the new ships will be able to stop at the same ports that the current S-class ships can visit. With more ships (that is, if they don't get rid of any of the smaller m-class ships), they will be able to offer different itineraries...but that has nothing to do with the size of the ship. I view their comment about smaller ship itineraries is pretty much marketing speak. The fact is that the M-class ships, being smaller are actually more suited to smaller ship itineraries. But "modern luxury" and "smaller ship itineraries" sound good....it's marketing speak.
Rare cruisestitch Posted December 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Pretty soon we'll hear the small ship itineraries referred to as "Premium" port stops, as opposed to "Classic" ports currently visited. And then there will be the "Specialty" itineraries like Carnival and Chinese New Years.
Rare ghstudio Posted December 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Don't forget the "suite ports" where only suite passengers can get off the ship. Hmm... at tender ports... Suite guests get private motor yachts Veranda guests take the standard tenders Those in inside and outside cabins will have changing facilities provided at the dock after their swim to shore. Rare cruisestitch Posted December 6, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2014 And the "interactive" ports where everyone in that town is invited to come aboard the ship for a day to meet and interact with the passengers.

neptuno Posted December 6, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 6, 2014 I would love some of the smaller Caribbean islands! Totally agree. We loved Reflection but SJU, STT and STX are what we have come to call the "milk run", so we are going to try HAL Amsterdam out of Ft Lauderdale 12/22. JasYHZ Posted December 6, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 6, 2014 I'd LOVE to see more Pacific Coastal cruises (they have a few of them now) and would also like to see a return of Mexican Riveria sailings.
maggie.1008 Posted December 6, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 6, 2014 More West Coast. I have done 2 Princess cruises in the last 2 months. Would have been on X if they were here. Will cruise with X to Hawaii in 2015 and Pacific Coastal in 2016. Which is $$$ so they must be popular.
Lsimon Posted December 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 6, 2014 I am excited that Celebrity is building 2 new ships! Any speculation on what ports would be in the 'small ship itinerary' category? The description of the new builds has them approximately the same size as the S class ships - slightly smaller but still much larger than the M class ships. I think these are only "small ships" when compared to today's mega ships such as the RCL Oasis class ships. So I think that along those lines the "small ship itinerary" will be roughly the same as the current Celebrity itineraries as opposed to the more limited list of ports which can handle the larger mega ships. I don't think we're talking "small ship itinerary" of the type that the Azamara or smaller ships can do.

Rare Lois R Posted December 6, 2014 #18 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Larger than M class?.....smaller than S class? That is not a "small ship", in my opinion.
