Dance Hosts?

Just off Westerdam. Spent time each night at Oceans Bar for the dancing--excellent experience. Query: one or two talented gents escorted, each dance, ladies of a certain age, each seated at front of the space. Quite in the manner of dance hosts on other lines. An acquaintance mentioned to DW that several women had clubbed together to engage the services of said gents.

Inquiring minds . . . . Is this the case? Thanks.

Amsterdam, on her 78-Day Grand Asia/Pacific had tree gentlemen dance hosts. They could be found in the Ocean Bar nightly

We haven't seen any dance hosts on longer cruises.

When HAL used to have them -- HAL arranged for the dance hosts -- not anyone else.

I like KK had not seen any around for awhile, but then I don't hang in the Ocean Bar. Good to know Copper, that they are still around.

Over the years the length of cruises qualifying to have dance hosts on board has gotten longer and longer. I remember the time when all 10-day cruises had dance hosts aboard; then it increased to 20 days, and last I heard was 30 days.

During that time the number of cruises having the minimum number of days has decreased. While there used to be many cruises over 30 days, now a similar cruise will be sold as continuous cruises, each one having less than the 30-day qualifying number of days.

The Grand cruises, and a few others, are still sold as one cruise and have the dance hosts, but it is not as many as it used to be.

Terima kasih! ;)

Ooh! You are making me miss the ships!

DH speaks passable Bahasa and we do have fun with the cabins stewards and DR waiters. Usually they show such shock, do a double take and then the rest of the cruise is an ongoing lesson because they want to teach us more. They are so great and they sure do remember us from one cruise to the next!

Glad you are back. You were missed!

I remember when we had about 2 or 3 dance hosts on 10 and 11 day cruises -- even 14 day cruises.

We would have 4 on our 21 and 22 repositioning cruises and 21 and 22 Pan American and Pan American/Ecuador cruises. Even our South American cruise had them.

I have not been on HAL for 2 years, don't think I saw any on 14 day Alaska cruise. We are going on 7 day Ryndam next month, doesn't sound like there will be any.

A dance instructor I see in the Catskills every year told me that he has been in charge of dance hosts on Princess, is still going on some of their cruises.
