Lower deck cabins?

Hi! We're planning an inexpensive, last minute cruist in January for our birthdays. Can someone please tell me their experience in lower (2nd and 3rd deck) cabins with an ocean view?

We were on the Carnival Breeze last year and had a midship, 8th deck balcony and it was perfect.

Not sure if the ship matters, but we will be on the Carnival Ecstasy.

Thanks in advance.

The only 2 cents I'd through in is f you hit rough seas you can have waves breaking on your window, though I've had that on deck 7 too, and in BAD weather they may put shutters on your window turning your OV into an inside.

I did verandah for a few cruises and did Oceanview for my last trip... Future cruises will be Oceanview with the biggest porthole. I found the verandah to be too windy for us and rarely used.

Biggest perk is the elevator which is vacant when I get on at the bottom. Deck 7 would have me waiting for one we could walk into.

What about noise? I have heard that you can hear more "sounds" (like engine and the anchor) down there? I have considered booking a lower deck for a cheaper price before, but have always held back due to those "rumors". :p

Only if you chose a cabin at closest to the bow. We always try to choose a mid ship cabin.

The engine is just a gentle pur. There is usually one crew deck between the lowest passenger deck .

Look at the deck plan and be careful what is above you.

.

Better be on deck 2 if 3 is cabins

vs

Deck 3 if deck 4 is bars and casino.

Remember, they usually re-stock the bars onvernight.

.

I use to not look at cabin locations, but after a few bad experiences, I now look above and below on the deck plan.

.

But lower decks are fine. Do them all the time.

Prefer to cruise twice a year inside & low.

then once a year in a more expensive cabin.

.

Enjoy your last minute cruise

Awesome thanks. I might not feel so bad if I have to book one of these now. :)

Agreed.... I lucked out with the duty free/smoke shop. It was quiet after 10pm. Then again, I'm a nite-owl. Most activities shut down after midnight when I want to go to bed.

While the lower decks have more wave impact, the upper decks had more of a pendulum swing.

There's not that many anchor drops at night. Engine noise did not bother me in my bow room. However....

  • docking can be noisy if you are near a door (it's an automatic wake up for breakfast)
  • there is the complementary morning power wash on your oceanview window
  • keep your curtains closed.... it may be ocean at night, but during the day.... the public will be eye-level into your room from the docks.

We've sailed on four of her sister ships. Mostly on the Riviera, Main and Upper decks.

These decks are all mostly under other cabins. Parts of Upper are under the Atrium.

Riviera is above the upper crew deck and the loading areas. Rarely hear anything when staying in these cabins unless during loading or docking. Even then it depends on cabin location.

Empress deck is under many public areas, including MDRs, and galley. Avoid the galley.

There are a few cabins on Verandah. They're too high and too forward for our liking. Many pax do like these.
