Question for anyone that's been on Voyager since the refurb...

Recommended Posts

Oooh boo no craps table, that's.... Well Crap! Hehe how's the pokes? Are they still spitting out $200 in quarters or have they finally caught up and now spit out tickets?

P.s thanks so much for answering everyone's questions. I think there are so many people wondering how the ship is. I kmow there's been a few poor reviews so I think a few ppl are curious. I kmow I am. I'm hoping it's just serial complainers, to be honest!!

Re the casino. You are right. They spit out tickets. No coins. Lol. You cannot put cruise card in and get money that way anymore. You either put in notes (US) or go to cashier and they will get from your card. When leaving a machine just push cash out and move to another machine, cash it in or take with you for next time.

I also read some bad reviews, I never take any notice anyway but can honestly say, we have not found any problems what so ever. Food is awesome, we have dined in the dining room, 8-30 dining, windjammers, chops grill and tonight we off to giavanies (spelt that wrong I know lol)

If anyone says the food isn't good, I don't know what planet they are from.

Good to know, Reviews can be so subjective, I tend take notice of all reviews as a whole rather, than an individual review. I rarely take notice on food reviews but will things like décor, service, condition of the ship and the entertainment. (i.e if everyone says similar things about the entertainment or the quality of service).

We are Elite on X so with reciprocity would be Diamond on RCI. I suppose they have better deals/discounts again for Diamond and above, such as so many free minutes or a 20-25% discount.:D

We are 3 points off Platinum for RCI. Unfortunately when we cruise Celebrity we won't get any reciprocal benefits.

I am glad food has improved.Have been on 17 cruises and MDR was worst ever.Started going to Windjammer as did many did.It was much better. Many meals from MDR were returned. So many complaints were made on mid cruise survey that an emergency meeting of F & B management was held.Things could only improve after that cruise.

Last night I loaded some pics and took about 10 sec per pic. Logs on quickly, no complaints from our group what so ever.

Much better than last month then. Logging on was a struggle and pages wouldn't load fully. Wound up just switching to mobile coverage to save the grief instead.

Sounds like they either fixed, or improved things since.

I tend to agree. Bad reviews come so easily for ppl who just want to vent. I'm guilty of it too. But as I've said before I think some of the things people complain about are ridiculous, and I just take that with a grain of salt.

I personally think cruising is all about your attitude. If you go with a positive attitude you will enjoy it. Sure things will go wrong and nothing will be perfect, however I so firmly believe that if you let things annoy you, then you will be annoyed. If you just chill out and laugh off one or two problems you will have a much better time. No one likes lining up, but it's just a peril of cruising. I'd say if you really don't like crowds book on one of those exclusive $600 a night cruises, and you will be fine. Otherwise just do your best to go with the flow.

Don't like kids. Don't book in school holidays. Every cruise I've been on has been out of holiday season and there hasn't ever been that many kids on board. Go figure!

Been nice to staff you will be AMAZED at how they will return the favour! If you have a problem I guarantee a little smile and a complaint goes a long way as opposed to rudeness! I'm often astounded at how some ppl treat the staff on these ships. An extra tip here and there when u buy a drink will also go a long way.

Ok I've said enough. Can't wait till feb cruise on voyager to test my theory LOL

Re bathrooms, they have new showers, they are great, like a half circle, Perspex screen that opens in the middle, they seem bigger, much better....

Also new carpets , TV, and curtains in cabins

Sorry, no craps tables in casino (will double check today) but I have spent a bit of time in there [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] and have not seen, lots of black jack tables etc..

Promenade sports bar gone, but there is now the Tavern (used to be the champagne bar) quite a bit bigger, great area, plus another one a bit further along (can't remember name) will check, the pig and whistle I don't think is as popular as last year, the others seem to be , I think it's because the guy singing there is nowhere near as good as the guy (forgot his name) last year..

Hi Fiona, thanks for answering so many questions. Is the Tavern where the Aquarium Bar used to be (on deck 4)? And has the R-Bar replaced the Champagne bar at the port side, start of the Royal Promenade?

Thanks Fiona for the updates.

Do let me know if you get any answers regards the 3D cinema/theatre movies.

I agree regards attitude that others have mentioned, I never have many issues on my cruises, I treat the staff with the utmost respect & always ask for anything with a smile & not in a way that implies I expect it to happen.

I even tidy up the cabin a little as I hate making work for people! I don't make the bed though. :D

If you expect to line up or wait for certain things then you are often pleasantly surprised when there isn't a line I find.

There isn't a 3D theatre as such, they just show movies in the theatre and you get their special 3D glasses. They say to return the glasses as they can't be used anywhere else but here. Haven't been yet. Will go and check it out for you, so I dont tell you the wrong thing. Nothing worse than wrong information. Lol. But certain that is how it works.

Thanks for the on board updates. I have been reading the reviews of the December cruises and have been very worried. My parents are sailing this month for the first time and really want it to be a great holiday.

Any other feedback or suggestions would be very welcome.

Hope you have a great holiday.

Do they have an Ice Show on board while in Australia? It is not available for reservations on their website for our cruise. How do they distribute tickets if there is a show? Thanks

When we were on Voyager the ice show tickets were allocated to you for a set night. It was possible to see it twice if on the night you were not allocated a ticket you waited at the theatre & if there were spare seats right at the last minute, then they will let you in without a ticket.

I assume this is how it still works but Fiona may be able to confirm.

This is exactly the same then as prior to the refurb. I don't know why it was advertised that there was something new in this regard.

Does Voyager still have a separate small cinema for 2D movies, or maybe they have replaced it with cabins?

The cruise director would be the one to ask if you happen to get the chance.

I was on Voyager in March 2014, pre-refurb, but I doubt things have changed much since then...

3D movies are shown in the main theatre, using glasses which are provided as you enter and returned as you leave. I doubt that they are compatible with 3D systems used in Australian cinemas. I made the mistake of watching "Gravity" in 3D while on the ship. The 3D system worked well and the movie was visually quite spectacular, pity the storyline was complete and utter rubbish.

The ship had (and probably still has) a small "Screening Room" on Deck 2, however it was never used. We were told that movies (even older 2D movies) on the ship almost always attract bigger audiences than the screening room's capacity, so they just show them in the main theatre instead.

Passengers are allocated to a single Ice Show, based on their muster station and dinner seating. There are 5 sessions, arranged as follows:

  • 1st Dinner Seating, odd muster stations.
  • 2nd Dinner Seating, odd muster stations.
  • 1st Dinner Seating, even muster stations.
  • 2nd Dinner Seating, even muster stations.
  • My Time Dining, all muster stations.

It is possible to get in to another session, but only once all of the allocated passengers have been admitted.

Crown & Anchor Society members also get to see a 2nd Ice Show during the "Welcome Back" function at the start of the cruise. This show is different from the main show.

Thanks for the information, I agree about Gravity, 2 hours too long.:D

Must depend on the cruise. My pre-refurb cruise they did show movies in the Cinema.

That said, they did fill it up each time... but it didn't get overcrowded.

The small cinema is gone and replaced with cabins - looks like for crew as its not carpeted. The 'screening room' entrance is still there, walk through and you will see the cabins.

Yes, you are correct. You receive notification in cabin re ice show times. The muster number on your card with dinner seating, then a time.

Eg,,,,,, odd number muster number and late dinner seating at such and such time,

Even number and late seating

Odd number and early seating

Odd number and anytime dining. Etc etc

Does that make sense......
