Saturday, January 3: We arrived at Pier 27 a little after 11am. There was a short line but it was a beautiful day so we didn’t mind waiting in the sunshine. The doors opened at 11:15 and in we went. After filling out our health forms, we were sent upstairs to check in, where there was no wait. We were directed to the preferred seating area where they had refreshments ready for us. They started boarding 12:20pm. We dropped off our carry on luggage at our room and were enjoying lunch in the Portofino dining room by 12:45pm. Checking back at our cabin, we were happy to see our luggage had already been delivered.

Muster drill was right on time at 3:30pm. We were surprised when we were directed to use the aft crew stairway to reach the Vista Lounge. We then waited for sail away which was delayed by refueling. Watching all the lights of San Francisco and going under the Golden Gate is a great way to start our cruise.

We have anytime dining and had no wait at all for a table for 2 in the Portofino Dining Room and enjoyed a late dinner. Ship is in great shape after the short December drydock – new carpeting in hallways and they seem to be putting the finishing touches on a few projects.

Sunday, January 4, Sea Day. Enjoyed a relaxing easy day. Breakfast in the MDR, Cruise Critic Meet & Greet, Pub lunch in the Crown Grill and now off to trivia. We can tell we are getting closer to Cabo as the weather is warming up. More later:cool:

Thanks for your live report...Sounds like the porters have their act together and our boarding in Feb will be smooth. Really looking forward to our cruise as the weather in Chicago is frigid and we are wating for snow.

Enjoy your cruise

We have been having so much fun, we’ve neglected posting, but here’s a quick recap. We were amazed at the long line at the Portofino dining room on the first formal night. The line started at 5pm and never seemed to end. We love to people watch and it was a good show. We came back down to dine around 8pm and waited less than 15 minutes for a table for two. Food in the main dining room has been very good. Service is good for the most part, but some of the staff seem disinterested and remote. We’ve enjoyed all the trivia games and have won twice. We especially like Christopher J, one of the cruise director’s staff. He is funny and very outgoing. Alex, the Deputy Cruise Director is awesome – seems to be everywhere.

Arrived in Cabo yesterday morning. Weather was warm but cloudy. We enjoyed breakfast at Cabo Wabo and walked around before participating in a fiesta hosted by our travel agent. Back to the ship to relax and do nothing. That’s what vacations are for!

We have just arrived in Loreto and the weather seems to be similar to yesterday-warm and overcast. We plan to take the tender in and just walk around town to see all sites . More to follow…

We were on the cruise to Hawaii right before you got on. Alex was super!!! He is really outgoing and great at his job. Both he and Dave Cole were terrific cruise directors.

A question: When we were on the Star Princess the Capri DR, Deck 5, was used for ATD opening around 5:30. The Portofino DR on deck 6 did not open for ATD until 7:30, it was used for early traditional seating before that. Has this changed or do you have the DR names mixed up?

Thanks for the review of the Star. we will be sailing on her in April to Hawaii and will be lucky enough to have Eula on board.

Some ships that do not have an Alfredo's are making pizza in Sabs during the day. Is this now happening on the Star? Thank you.:):)

We'll be on the Star again in 5 days - to Hawaii. Looking forward to the new carpet and other things they have changed. You should be having some very nice weather as it was 83 in Santa Barbara yesterday. I'm looking forward to some warm weather myself. Enjoy your cruise!
