Mayor of Ships?

We were on Enchantment last week and met a Pinnacle member who told us he was Mayor of the Jewel of the Seas.

 

I didn't want to press him for information but now I regret not asking him what it met to be Mayor.

 

Is this an honorary title? Or actually elected Mayor? If elected what do his "duties" as mayor entail?

 

I can't find his business card at the moment but I am 90% certain it said "Mayor of Jewel of Seas" and not "Honorary Mayor"

 

Any insight would be welcome though, thanks

We met him a couple of years ago on the Jewel. At the "welcome back" party for prior cruisers he stood in line along with the rest of the officers, greeting cruisers as they passed through. He handed out business cards on that cruise too.

Yes and Yes. Maybe he is a nice guy, but a bit much IMO.

Ha! We met him as well on a cruise. I thought it was a bit pretentious and ego centric.

I met him on Enchantment the week before OP's cruise. He was a nice guy and not annoying or arrogant. The title is honorary and the Hotel Director even told a story about him in the repeaters party.

So can I tell everyone I'm the Mayor of the Allure when we go in June? That would be the MOST fun. I can't wait to tell DH he will be rooming with the Mayor!
