On Celebrity website I can purchase $25 gift vouchers for on-board credit.

These are charged in Australian dollars but I can't see anywhere that it tells me what this equates to in US dollars when we are on board can anyone help?

Is this a serious question? A 30 second search on google for currency exchange and you'll find what you're looking for. As of today the exchange rate is aboutA$81c:US$1. Not too difficult to work out.

It is a serious question - believe it or not I do know how to use a currency converter.

If I buy them today at $25 Aud however they don't get delivered until the first day of the cruise (which is the only option we seem to have) - the exchange rate could be very different then - which exchange rate do we get? Today's rate or the one at the time on the cruise?

What a rude response. People ask all sorts of questions here which could easily be found in a Google search and people are happy to help. Also, who's to say that Celebrity use the going exchange rate of the day and don't have an average amount based on the rates over say the last month or so.

In the UK we get $25 for each tranche of onboard credit and I presume that would be what you would get for your AUS$ amount

We pretty much always buy OBC before our cruise as it is a great deal especially at the moment. It costs $25Aus to purchase $25US. Just be aware if you book it online for some reason it doesn't always go through. You will get an email pretty much straight away saying your order has gone through and you won't get any more notice (or something similar) but check your credit card because if the money doesn't come off your card they will have no record of your request. Another problem with Celebrity website. If you don't use it all the money goes back onto your card. Not sure of the exchange rate for that as we have always used it.

Perfect thanks for your responses - this is what I was hoping for but thought it was too good to be true hence I wanted to hear from someone who has done it before - excellent suggestion re checking my credit card statement - I will print it off & take it as proof if I have any queries onboard

Thanks again.

Thank you for asking that question. I was wondering myself. I could not find anywhere on the website what the vouchers were worth in US dollars. I assumed it was $25US but I could not actually find it stated anywhere. I called Celebrity just to confirm. Due to our falling Canadian dollar buying these OBC are a real money saver.

Looks like you are getting an extra 20% on your money in $us. They refund any unused onto the card you have registered on the ship so you can decide where it will go. We have a USD card and I get them to transfer it onto their to preserve the exchange rate

Be aware, it is not a money saver if your original booking is in USD. I bought what I thought was 9 x 27.20 Cdn ($244.80) and my CC was charged $279.33. Celebrity's conversion added over 14%!

Unless it is different to the UK, which I doubt, you purchase in units of US$ [not Aus$]. If you have booked your cruise in Aus$ you go to Gifts by Celebrity/Deliver on Board it should quote the price in Aus$ for US$25 units of OBC. For OBC, you get the exchange rate quoted at the time of purchase.

Hope that makes better sense for you. The Celebrity website can be confusing.

In the UK, at present, the exchange rate offered is very, very good.

£14.90 per $25- I purchased 9 units this morning and have the print out.

I had tried to do it a week ago, but at that time I wasn't able to get further than the 2nd page, I had a red notice to say it couldn't be done at this time- it was late at night.

We are from Canada and have done this a few times. It's a great deal on currency exchange. Example, today you can buy $25USD for $27.20 (9%). But be sure to confirm your transactions over the phone (1-800-242-6374) a week or two before you sail. The online purchase process has not proven 100% reliable regardless of the email confirmations. We've purchased credits online for both $USD and $CND original bookings and it always comes out ok with the CND value from the website. It does take a few attempts sometimes

Can you please tell me how to do this for a USD booking? I have a booking in USD, tried to buy it online last week at $27.20 CDN and was charged over $31 on my CDN credit card. If I ordered in USD and put it on a CDN card, would I have been charged the $27.20?

I'm not sure what happened in your case. When I buy at the $CDN rate displayed on the website it shows up likewise on my credit. Perhaps give Celebrity a call. You should be billed as displayed on their website. Sorry I can't help further

Whichever currency you book in is the currency Celebrity will then use for any additional purchases (OBC, excursions, restaurants...). So if you reserved in USD, your credit card will be charged at the prevailing rates, not Celebrity's rate.

At e moment AUS customers get $25 for $AS25 which is a better uplift than we get in the UK and is around 29% extra for their cash at current exchange rates

I gave put around $1200 on our first cruise and $850 on our second cruise in the next few weeks. Originally I did it to cover internet anf drinks package upgrades. I the rethought things and did the package upgrade in the UK as x-rate is so good and topped up the $450 I originally loaded on to cruise 1 on the basis that we were staying in US for days in between and also post second cruise.

What we don't spend will go back onto my $US credit card to use while we are in the US.

From an Australian who has been there and done that. On our Century trip, even though I did not need it, I did a test run for our Solstice trip next month. Purchased $25 AUD OBC through the Celebrity web site, got all the confirmations I had done this, checked it came off my credit card, it did and I was charged only $25 AUD with no international transfer charges.

When we got on board and into our room one of the first things I did was check our account and there it was, $25USD OBC. Excellent deal given our current exchange rate. I have now put $500AUD OBC on our account for the Solstice, some of which is for the Casino, so wish me luck I could win even more USD.

To Team Alpha who posted use a currency converter, we all leap to an obvious response, sometimes it is not that obvious that is why it is good to ask a question to clarify. I use currency converters in my job all the time and I happen to know what that converter is telling me is not what I will get, especially if converting small sums through a bank or post office.

The charge to my CC was converted by Celebrity NOT my credit card company.

I was sent an 'amenity confirmation' by Celebrity late last night.

I checked my credit card & the charge wasn't there so I have phoned Celebrity today & purchased onboard credit with them directly & have received my confirmations so I am a very happy cruiser.

Thanks so much to everyone (well nearly everyone - the first response was not what I expected) I knew there would be some knowledgable people who would be able to answer my query.
