Liberty OTS- will we be bored?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Hubby and I are looking at cruises for this May/June and came across 1 we're thinking about taking on Liberty. We cruised on Majesty and Enchantment probably 7/8 years ago and I don't think I liked them much as they were too small. We've since been on Oasis twice and I always say I don't think I could go smaller after being on it. I love how much there is to do, the shows, the restaurants, etc so I am worried with going on a smaller/older ship I may not enjoy it as much. I know it was remodeled recently, but is it still as good as one of the newest ships?!

Has anyone been on Oasis/Allure and gone back to smaller ships and still enjoyed them?? Or does anyone think Liberty still will be enjoyable after loving Oasis??

We were considering going on a Norwegian cruise on one of their newer ships, but we'd like to stick to Royal Caribbean so any advice on Liberty would be great!

God, I hate posts like this .... just do your research, do some googling, put your big girl pants on and take a chance.

Seriously ?? How bad or boring do you really think a huge beautiful ship like Liberty would be ?? Youre not going from Oasis to the Bahamas Celebration, for gods sake.

I'm Rude? OK.

I have been on all the RC ships you've mentioned. Oddly enough, my favorite ships are Majesty/Liberty/Oasis (all tied). Obviously they are all incredibly different. I went from Oasis to Majesty and still had a great time. I then went back to Liberty and remembered all the things I loved about it. I love the Royal Promenade and the choice of restaurants, and, actually, I really liked that it wasn't as big as Oasis, but a lot bigger than Majesty. I'm not a huge show person, but I'd never seen an ice show before, and the one on Liberty was great.

I think if you were going to be "bored" on a ship, it would be one like Enchantment (my least favorite ship), but I think you'd have to try to be bored on Liberty. If you think Norwegian would offer more, then try it. But I think Liberty is a great ship and you can't go wrong.

you will only be bored if you make an effort to be bored. actually I VASTLY prefer EN over a mega ship like O or A. I do not need to be entertained or stimulated 24/7. we did Navigator 2 weeks ago and were very happy with it and will be doing Liberty in December when she moves to Galveston.

I find O and A to have TOO much going on and quite overwhelming.

Wow, sorry. I thought asking for some opinions on here was "doing my research". My bad.

Freedom class is my favorite class of ship (haven't been on Oasis or Allure yet as DH has mobility issues and they are just so big). The whole family, 5 cabins full, will be on the Liberty this summer for 9 nights...3 generations and we picked the Liberty to keep everyone entertained. You won't be disappointed.

Liberty has TONS of stuff to do. We couldn't find time to get it all in!

Intersting, I met a couple at the airport today who wee just off Oasis and they said while they liked Oasis, it was BIG and they preferred Liberty's size.

Our last two cruises have been on Allure and Oasis, and we are looking forward to our June Liberty cruise! Allure and Oasis are certainly unique ships which we enjoyed, but we also enjoy Freedom class ships. You'll find a great shows including the Ice show, Sat Night Fever, etc., along with Chops & Portofino, Flow Rider, Rock Wall, mini golf, Schooner Lounge, Viking Crown Lounge etc., etc.

No, you won't be bored.

Are you looking at the 9 night or 5 night?

I'm like you, I love the Oasis class the most by far and that was my biggest concern the first time I went on the Explorer after the Oasis. We ended up having a blast and never felt like we were on a "smaller" ship. And I can tell you that we got just as excited for our future Explorer cruises as we did our Oasis cruises.

I haven't been on a Freedom class ship in a few years and I'm dying to go back (even though the Oasis is still my favorite). Do it. You will not be disappointed.

The Liberty has many of the Oasis features like the Royal Promenade, Cafe Promenade, Sorrentos, Flowrider, cantilevered hot tubs, ice skating rink, On Air Club, Boleros, etc.

I actually like the Solarium and Schooner Bar better on the Liberty than the Oasis.

And you can actually use the Viking Crown Lounge on the Liberty if you are not in a suite.

We are looking at a 9 night! Actually the main reason we looked at this one because we wanted to do a longer cruise this time!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I just get nervous because we did an all inclusive resort for our honeymoon and there was NOTHING to do there so I never want to be that bored on a vacation again!! :)

Very good to hear! We went on oasis the second time with family and they said it was too big and they'd rather go back on freedom class but I always said I just don't think I could go "smaller" as we loved the constant entertainment and things to do.

I have been on Liberty 4 times now and I just LOVE it. I went on Oasis once and I was overwhelmed and missed 3/4 of the ship, just couldn't get it all in. I had a migraine headache for the first 3 days so it could be an unfair call. Even so, the Liberty is great and you shouldn't be bored. Since Liberty is moving I may be persuaded to go on Allure or Oasis but will probably just go on Independence instead.

I would love to try the Quantum or Anthem out but I don't like going on the longer sailings and they are still too pricey for me.

i'm no expert, and we've been on 4 carnival cruises...2 on med/large boats but never the big ones, and a couple smaller like elation. It seemed like the bigger the boat, the more people. But, floor space doesn't seem to increase proportionately, especially around food areas and buffets. One of the things larger ships seem to have are more staterooms and more people...

even if the bigger boats have a few more activities, it's not like you'll be doing those things all the time anyway-though the do look fun.

we found the smaller ships are nice in that everything is a little bit closer , and seem to be just a little less crowded.

So, just go, have fun and don't worry about the little things-you can do them all on your next cruise!

I think if you like cruising in general you will be fine on Liberty...

We sailed Allure last June and it ended up being my favorite ship sailed thus far. Then, a month later we went on a weekend cruise with family on Carnival Inspiration (much much much smaller ship). There is virtually nothing to do on this ship, but I had been on it many times and went with realistic expectations. We love cruising and made the best out of it. We hung out by the pool a lot, went to the casino, went to all the comedy shows. If nothing else was going on around the ship, we just met up in one of the bars and hung out. We were happy just to be on a cruiseship and made the best of it.

Were we spoiled by Allure and have higher standards now for sailing? Sure! But were we bored on this tiny poor Carnival ship that we are stuck with in West Coast? Not really. I am sure Liberty will be somewhere in between and as others have mentioned, there is plenty to do on that ship.

We are booked for 9-day Bermuda in June on Liberty btw :) Can't wait!

I've been to an AI and I agree one can get bored. I also share your concern of going from the Oasis class to the Freedom class. I believe there will still be plenty to do on the Liberty and I am actually looking forward to a smaller ship. I felt the Allure was very overwhelming with all she had to offer; we went on twice to do it all. Now I feel I've gotten that size ship out of my system and can enjoy the "average" size ship and relax.

Yes you are. the whole idea of a site like this is so people can feel comfortable asking any questions they want about cruising. When you belittle someone like the way you do it stops them from asking further questions.

Don't pay any attention to the rude people here, it has got a lot worse in the last few years.

I thought the same as you after we were on the Oasis, but have sense been on the Divina and a short cruise on the Freedom. We absolutely loved both cruises. Go in with a open mind and you will be all good. Love the freedom class ships!!!

We have only ever been on the Oasis for RCCL, which I loved after just being on older Carnival ships recently. We have a B2B booked on the Independence & Freedom later this month which are the sister ships of the Liberty and after looking at what they have to offer and reading reviews here, I do not think there is any chance I am going to be bored. Hopefully you will feel the same.

And ignore the rude people. Haters gonna hate. Sometimes I think people just look for excuses to be nasty. If they don't like your questions, maybe they just shouldn't be on the board or should just ignore your questions and move on. I am wearing my big girl panties, but I still like asking questions and getting validation sometimes.

Whatever you choose to do, I am sure you will have an amazing time :)
