Well we gambled and loss (sort of). We booked very early and got a great deal but then we saw if we switched to a guarantee room (we had two rooms) we would save $800. That was a lot, so we decided to try it. My husband and I got an interior, which is fine we booked an interior but the three kids got an Ocean view...can't even switch because our room only accommodates two people and because they are 20, 18 and 16 they are old enough to have their own room with no adult...But dang, I want the ocean view....I had a balcony last cruise and I am so sad to go back to an interior. Oh well, I guess that is the price you pay! :p

I am very surprised that you were able to book your three kids into a guarantee booking

They may be adults but by carnival standards you need to be over 21 to have your own cabin or someone in the cabin must be over 25

Unless its your own kids and they must be in the room either next door or across the hall

Are the rooms across from each other? Maybe no other inside slept 3 people

Kids the age of OP can be booked anywhere on the ship. We travel with teens. As long as they are our children location is not an issue. If we bring a friend for one of the DD or just travel with the grandkids then the "within three doors" rule come into play.

We started out with rooms that were two doors down from each other, carnival then took theirs away and just assigned them the OV same deck but different ends of ship. As long as they are my children I have never had trouble booking rooms although we have always been side by side.

That is incorrect information. The 16 year old throws it out the door.

Terms & Conditions: Minor Policy (Guests under the age of 21)

Guests Under the Age of 21 MUST travel with a relative or guardian of 25 years of age or older

The guardian does not need to be a legal guardian

The bookings must be cross-referenced with the guardian’s stateroom and documented properly

Guests 12 and younger

If the relative or guardian insist on booking separate staterooms, minors must either be directly across the hall or next door. Guests 12 and under may not be assigned to a balcony cabin without a relative/guardian.

Guests 13 - 17 years of age

Can be booked up to 3 staterooms away from their relative or guardian.

Guests 18 – 20 years of age

Do not have any restrictions and may book whatever location they prefer.

Exceptions are as follows:

Guests under the age of 21 may travel without a relative/guardian under the following conditions:

Legally married couples, including same gender couples

Proper documentation (i.e., official marriage license or proof of civil union) must be submitted prior to or on embarkation day.

Qualified Military Personnel

Applies to US Military Personnel and Canadian National Defense personnel (and their guests) of 18 – 20 years of age

Copy of Military ID will suffice as proof of service.

For both exceptions, bookings should be carefully documented. Documentation can be e-mailed to individualsailingsupport@carnival.com. Failure to provide documentation or not conforming to this policy will result in denied boarding and no compensation will be provided.

When minors (18 and under) are NOT traveling with a relative, we strongly recommend bringing an original signed letter from the absent parent/legal guardian authorizing the minor to travel.

What is a "guarantee room" and how do I book one? I've seen several posts on CC referencing guarantee rooms, but when I try booking a future cruise, I don't have an option for a guarantee room. It seems like those bookings are quite a savings from what I'm offered as a past guest. I'm not even offered the option of letting Carnival choose my room (I used to have that option when booking) to save $$. Thanks for any info.

A guarantee room means that when you book your cruise, instead of choosing your cabin, you are "guaranteed" a room in whatever category you choose. At some point before you sail, Carnival will assign you a room in that category (sometimes, as in the case of OP, you will get upgraded to a higher one). You do not have any say on your location of the ship when booking a guarantee -- just the category.

I don't think guarantees are available on all sailings at all times. Currently I'm booked on the Conquest in December and there's not an option for booking a guarantee cabin yet. However, on my previous cruise last year (also on Conquest) the guarantee cabins started showing up about 3 - 4 months out. We ended up switching from an OV to a guarantee balcony and got OBC. Got placed over the night club but it wasn't too bad, as we travel with a mini fan and earplugs.

Blarko-

A guarantee cabin is the lowest class of each cabin category (Balcony, Interior, ocean view etc... It is basically the cheapest rate you would pay for that category. What you GIVE UP for that low price is the ability to pick your cabin. You pay the fare and then Carnival picks which cabin you get. The drawback? The cabins that Carnival picks from are the ones that went unsold and thereby are probably the ones people shy away from. (Under the casino.. near a noise source etc... But you are guaranteed AT LEAST the type of room you paid for. So if you take a Balcony guarantee you will get at least a balcony. (Although some ships have obstructed view balconies.. so you may end up there.) BUT as with the OP, sometimes that just don't have enough cabins in your category and they will "upgrade" you to the next higher category they have available. Hence they paid for an interior guarantee for 3 people and got an ocean view cabin from it (most likely because there were no other 3 person interiors left. It's a gamble.. sometimes you win sometimes you lose. But you will be on the ship and you can save money. So if you are like most poeple and really don't care that deeply about which cabin you are in, you can save money booking this way.

Blarko...as said before some sailings do not have the "guarantee" option. When it says let us pick your room...I believe that equals a "guarantee" for Carnival...I do not book on the site...just hunt, dream and research.

Sarah

Good luck to OP...there was a cute post taken in good humor by poster helping another..similar situation.. and rather recently... when the kids got a suite..LOL..and parents I think had OV or inside..it "all" happens with "guarantees" they should call them "No Guarantee but whatever category per room and number in room."
