CasinoCruzGirl Posted February 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2015 I just booked my first suite on the Norwegian star. I know it's not the best suite in the lot but nevertheless it's still a suite it was basically the only room that would accommodate five of us I'll be going with my sister her husband and two sons. We got such a great deal we couldn't pass it up Geri

A suite is a suite (maybe a suite is a sweet--treat, that is)[emoji4] Something I'll never experience but love watching the excitement of others. marelind Posted February 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2015 We got upsold into the Owner's Suite on the Pearl for a 4-day Pacific Coastal. We haven't been able to non-suite ever since. Congrats and enjoy it!

hpecorari Posted February 27, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) I am so so excited. I am going on the breakaway for the 3rd time this may so I'm thrilled to try another ship. How is the star? I loved the Star. Don't get me wrong.....it's not new so it does show some age......more so in the theater. Those chairs are not very comfy but if you give up sitting in the isles and move towards the center of the row it's much better. In a suite you should get suite seating but I just don't like sitting in the balcony sides. I'm short and the glass gets in my way! The crew, both times I've been on her are FANTASTIC! If Tony Winkler is still there as HD, tell him I said hello. He might even offer you a drink on him! Captain Konstantinos Fafalios is also fantastic and tell him I said hello also if he's still there. *Edit - I noticed you're not going until November? She'll be in drydock before then! :) Enjoy! dexddd Posted February 27, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Will do Harriett. When is dry dock? How is the Star casino? Geri I'm more shocked that you are not going on the BA again. We've been on the Star twice and like the ship enough. The rooms on 12 were added back in 2010. You will be close to the pool, the buffet is a short walk, and you can go up one floor to the outside bar. That area is generally quite quiet. I know on another thread about the Dawn and the rooms on 12 someone was commenting on the heavy foot traffic and flip flops from the elevator to the pool area. We'll that may be a problem for a couple hours a day but the times we've been in that area on the Dawn or Star it has been very quiet.

I did try and book the Breakaway for that week (sisters kid off school that week) but the family oceanview was sold out so plan B the Star since we can't afford the 2 bedroom suite on the breakaway. I am booked on the Breakaway for this May Woohoo love that ship. She needs me to go so she can get the casino price from me if they go without me the price skyrockets. mearsfansinboise Posted February 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Will do Harriett. When is dry dock? How is the Star casino? Geri Dry dock is soon. Like real soon. I know this because I am sailing on the 22nd and it's I think the week or 2 weeks after dry dock. There is another thread going somewhere called Star drydock or something like that. We'll be in our first suite too :) --- a family suite as well; and we too got a hot deal that we couldn't pass up!

PatJim Posted February 27, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 27, 2015 We are booked in an SJ Family Suite yes it's the bottom of the barrel suite but still a suite. There is nothing bottom of the barrel about any of the NCL suites! The only thing missing for you is Haven access, and many cruisers, including us, prefer the Non-Haven suites. We've been in the Gem's 2-bedroom family suite and Penthouse Forward & Aft. Suites. Best perks for us--balconies w/chaise lounge chairs, the cappichino machine, wonderful butlers, breakfast & lunch at Cagney's, concierge help.... The staff will go out of their way to please you. Don't forget to take advantage of the pre-concierge desk before your cruise. Most important is to request 'egg crate' toppers for any pull-down beds and couches to be used as beds; the master bed has a fabulous mattress but the other beds need the toppers! You will have a fabulous time. Enjoy being spoiled:)

herdingdogmom Posted March 2, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) We are in 12528 - and you can count on a lengthy review with pictures ;) Great, I look forward to your post dry dock review of the Star. We will be in our 3rd SJ suite in May. They are really nice suites and not bottom of the barrel at all - really spacious and that bathroom is fantastic. They are a good value because they do not have a balcony and we really like the location on deck 12. It looks like the Star is on her way to Portland for dry dock now - just passing Malibu and heading up the California coast. I am booked on the Breakaway for this May Woohoo love that ship. She needs me to go so she can get the casino price from me if they go without me the price skyrockets. I just booked my first suite - Escape Haven Spa Suite. I ended up using the 7* tier discount vs. the CAS free balcony, because I get all 4 perks and the price was 3900 for two, which is pretty darn cheap, normally we get a spa balcony or spa minisuite, and pay a minor up charge on top of the $600 in taxes and port fees. Good luck with your suite!
Demonyte Posted March 2, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 2, 2015 SJ suites provide IMO best bang for the buck in all NCL fleet. Really no need to downplay it.
