Just booked :D!! Is it just me? I really prefer the smaller ships.

We just booked a cruise & with all the options I still chose the Fantasy class again & honestly, I just prefer the smaller ships. To me it they feel less crowded, feels like more space in the common areas & even feel like wider hallways/walkways.

There is never an open spot on the Serenity deck of the Fantasty class & it is a little small (I am happy on the lido deck anyway), but we went on the Sunshine the Serenity is huge but so were the amount of people so you still couldn't find a seat or even a spot in the pool. The buffet area was wild with all the people & it feels smaller or at least not big enough to handle the capacity.

 

What is your opinion? Do you prefer the larger ships? Maybe I am missing something.

I think that the smaller ships are better in many ways i.e. less crowded, but the bigger ships have their advantages too. They have been designed in a way to make it feel like the ship is the destination and they have more amenities, but i think it's all up to the individual cruiser to decide. What cruise are you sailing on?

Both my husband and I prefer smaller ships - (carnival Paradise) is our favorite right now. So easy to get around and it feels spacious, get to know more people, other cruisers and ship's personnel.

I'm a new cruiser and have only been on the Dream first and then the Sunshine. The Sunshine is smaller but has the upgrades and I really liked it better than the bigger Dream. Next is even smaller..the Valor with no upgrades. From everything I've heard, I should still be happy on the Valor.

The newer ships seem more crowded, and folks wanting to do all the bells and whistles.

 

I'll take the smaller ships. Don't do all the extra stuff, anyway.

I guess I'm the opposite. After 2 cruises on Fantasy class ships I have learned I want and like the bells and whistles. I was bored a lot on the smaller ships and thought there wasn't enough to do.

When I sailed on the Fascination, I said "This ships' too small" then I sailed in the Breeze and said "This ships' too big " .... in 29 days we will cruise on the Pride hopefully, I'll say "This ship is just right ! " :D

Kidding aside, I preferred the larger ship with the newer options and the simpler decor of the Breeze, DH preferred the smaller ship and found it easier to find his way around.. The Pride has the 2.0 upgrades which I will enjoy and its not as big as the Dream & Breeze, so DH is looking forward to that... It might be just be a perfect compromise for us...

I've only been on Fantasy class ships. I really have no desire to try a bigger one. Maybe if we ever do a longer than 5 day, we might pick a bigger one, but right now Fantasy class is just fine by me.

I have no problem with the big ships, but when given the option, I'll almost always choose the smaller ships. Just easier to get around on, and doesn't take all evening to walk from bow to stern. I enjoy getting to know more folks too, and it seems that aboard the big ships, you only see a person ONCE during the entire cruise. (I hate when that happens.) :p

I love all the ships! My only frustration with Fantasy ships is lack of balconies on some of them and I'm a balcony kind of girl.

I've only cruised smaller ships - other cruise lines and the Paradise ( which I loved). We are booked on the Sunshine later this summer and I think this as big as I can do. The idea of being on a ship with 4000 or 5000 other passengers just overwhelms me. I like people - but not that much. As other have said, I don't do a whole lot on a cruise. Lot's of eating, drinking, some pool time and maybe a dance class. Rock climbing and thrill rides over the side are never going to be on my to do list.....

As much as mega ships like OOS and AOS do not appeal I think its all about ratio.

 

Good passenger space ratio is perfect on Spirit class and those who have sailed bigger tell me this is not seen so much.

 

I would sail a Fantasy class ship in a heartbeat if the price was good.

I don't think you are in such a minority either, or maybe we are.

 

I have talked to people who really don't want to be outside.

They want to be entertained and air conditioned at all times.

I definetly agree with you. We cruise for all the reasons you do. I never understand the posts,"there was nothing to do on this ship!" I don't need to be entertained, give me a chair on Lido, a good book, a drink in hand and I'm a happy camper!

I like the larger ships with the bells and whistles as opposed to the older/small ships. I have to say that Sunshine is a very crowded ship and it's not one I would sail again. You are right that there are too many passengers and it is very crowded.

 

I love the Dream class and the Conquest class. Granted, there are more people than on Fantasy, but the overall, to me, is far nicer and better. I am not one to sit on the deck or go in the pool as there is a pool and deck at the house. I do like sitting out on my balcony and watching the sea or if in port the people. I enjoy reading out there too and at night having a drink in the moonlight.

 

I don't need to be entertained, but if there is something going on that interests me, I attend. I like the casino and have fun there. Cruises for me are to relax and that's exactly what I do.

 

I know there are many who like things I don't and vice versa. That's fine with me as everything would be far too crowded if we all wanted to do the same things.

I have never been on any of the "big" ships, but I don't think that I would enjoy it as much as the smaller ones. While I am on the ship, I like to relax by the pool and don't want to feel like I am missing something if I don't go try all the "extras" that would be on a bigger ship. My very first cruise I believe was about 900 passengers, and I loved it!!!!

 

I guess everyone has their own likes/dislikes :)

I am glad to know I am not alone & there is enough desire for the smaller ships (passenger to space ratio) so Carnival doesn't do away with them :D.
