Typical day with Cheers?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Well for our wedding cruise we bought it. For me a normal sea day was a Bloody Mary or 2 with breakfast, go up to lido have a margarita or mojito, then start with some beers, with dinner have another beer. Later on hit either the casino (for a Long Island) or the alchemy bar for a watermelon mojito or 2. Given all that, I only hit 15 drinks one time actually drinking, but we also used it to our advantage to grab unopened beers and angry orchard ciders for my wife for some beach days.

how do you get unopened beers?? I would like to take some off the ship for beach days but they always insist on opening them when you get them!

We just got to know a bartender. She was in the casino bar and we alway got drinks from her. So we just asked and she did it.

Well, it depends.

When we don't get the Cheers program, we constantly worry how much we are drinking/spending and, thus, not enjoying ourselves.

When we do get the Cheers program, we constantly worry how many we've had to make certain we break even and, thus, not enjoying ourselves. But, at some point in the day, it won't matter any more.

Seriously! I'm the same way. Sailing in a few days and I'm stressing about if we should buy it or not. In the pride when it was only 42.95 per day I broke even and my guy saved $100. ( of course I kept track) and last year on princess it was 49.00 day somehow didn't come close to breaking even...

You only need to drink 6 of the fancy fruity cocktails to meet your minimum...lol The problem I had on Port Days was going to Sr Frogs or fat Tuesdays and having more than my fair share there...so the ship made put on me on Port Says...But I more than made up for the shortage on Sea Days!!

I also forgot to add...for the more expensive fruity caribbean cocktails....I believe they call them "ultra"?... Keep your receipt and you get a $5 voucher at casino to use as match for gambling...not a bad deal for gamblers

Wait a second.....They still offer the $5 match play card?! Are you sure?

We haven't seen any promotions offered in the casino/bar on my last couple of cruises (most recent cruise being 1 month ago). We never saw anyone using the vouchers at the tables either.

I figured it was discontinued.

Does anyone know if I can get an Old Fashioned? I like Southern Comfort Old Fashion sweet. If so, how much would a drink like this cost? I am assuming we can order whatever we want even if not on a menu???

Paige-Ryan -

Yes it was offered during my cruise on the Breeze 1/3-1/11.... It wasn't really advertised but I believe it was on the table signs in the Casino Bar. That may have been the only location on the cruise where the match play offer was offered

There is also one type of beer they were selling on Elation that had a screw top so if you ordered a bucket of beer with that type, the only unscrewed one and the rest were not only sealed but still had the screw top. Even if they unscrew it, you can just screw the lid right back on! I can't remember what kind of beer, I am thinking Michelob Ultra or Miller Lite.

Jenner9, my boyfriend ordered an Old Fashioned often on our cruise, it was covered by Cheers so it was under $10. He thinks it was around $9.50.

Question - DH and I will be on the Conquest 5/23 for 8 nights and we are leaning heavy towards Cheers program - someone earlier mentioned they do Baileys and coffee in the am - can you get that with cheers? Or do you order as hot of baileys and add it to your coffee...this would interested me both for morning and after dinner. Can you order shots at all?

We ordered Bailey's and coffee and it was covered, you didn't have to order it separately and then pour yourself. I am sorry though I don't know about shots, we didn't get shots at all.

We have only tried Cheers once and that was on Carnival Liberty when the price was $37.50 a day instead of the $49.95. We averaged 6-8 drinks daily. Most of my drinks were mango swirls or Pina Coladas except for 2 glasses of wine at dinner.

Drinking the fruity drinks filled me up so I didn't drink as much as if I were drinking Chivas and soda. I would do it again as I like the idea of not having to worry about a bar bill, but I won't ever get near the 15 per day even if I don't get off the ship.

My hubby and I normal hit 15 at least 3-4 days out of a 7-8 day cruise which the Cheers makes sense for us. With my Bloody Mary's to start the day at around 10-11 am it's not really hard. We've NEVER been cut off or not be able to get back to our rooms, guess that comes with age!! LOL We're both 60, and absolutely love cruising.... On our way to Diamond!! Hopefully in early 2017... YOU can get pretty much what you want as long as it's not super top shelf liquor. You may have to tell the bartender how to make it but they will do their best to take care of you....KEY, MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE BARTENDERS EARLY.... there will be a few bars that the same waiters will work the entire cruise...after a few drinks they will remember what you drink and all you do is hold up you empty glass...LOL

All this back and forth over how many and which drinks reminds me of an old (around Madmen time) joke of an office memo from a fictional boss.

Went something like:

I don't mind if you have a splash of vodka in your orange juice when you wake up; a shot of brandy in the morning coffee is just the thing; repeating it on coffee break helps the morning go better; and 1-2 martini's at lunch is de rigor; surely an afternoon beer or two is almost routine; and a Happy Hour cocktail or two before dinner and a couple of glasses of wine with the evening meal fit right in; of course, you need that nightcap to help relax for bed and a good night's sleep; but this SIP, SIP, SIP all day long has got to STOP!!:D

I actually envy you people who can make Cheers worth it. If I had more than 1 drink in the morning then I would be dragging all day and unable to even drink at night. If I hold off and drink at night then I might make it to a 3rd drink if I am in the casino. I am such a lightweight, after my 2nd or 3rd drink I am just not feeling right and don't want to drink any more. When I was in college it was the opposite, after the 3rd drink is when I started to feel good and went for the shots. This getting old stuff is no fun!!!

BigBo882 I am going to turn 52 but 10 years ago I might of gone over the 15 limit, I did slow down :o

For some reason I always had a high tolerance to alcohol, even medications I need more, I recall years ago having to be put out for a medical test, doctor comes in and sees me up and questioned the nurse whether they gave me the anesthesia...another time was for surgery, they couldn't believe I was still up lol had to give me more anesthesia.

Also a very 'cheap drunk' as I like to put it - would never consider the Cheers program as I could barely handle 15 drinks a week let alone a day!:rolleyes:

And in regard to anesthesia - yes it is very similar to alcohol tolerance - when I had day surgery a few years ago the anesthetist asked me how I reacted to alcohol and how much I drank (which I thought was a strange question at the time).

I told him I was a very light drinker/cheap drunk - so he adjusted the dosage accordingly!! And it was excellent - as I came out of it great and clear headed and ready to go home in a few hours! (and for my next day surgery I also mentioned this to the dr so he was aware that I only needed a 'light cocktail' LOL) :)

Do you have to return your glass to get another drink on the cheers program?

We can't decide if we should get it. I'm not a heavy drinker at all. My husband could drink 10 a day probably. He is a beer drinker. I don't think between the two of us, it will be worth it. I'm considering getting a a bottle of vodka and a bottle of Malibu rum from the Bon voyage program and then doing endless bubble for soda and juice, then mixing ourselves.

Do you get ANY juice without buying it or using bottomless bubble? What about continental breakfast?

A mimosa or two at breakfast, try out the drink specials during the day (if they're lousy I don't feel bad swapping it for something else), a couple of martinis before dinner, drinks during evening entertainment and a chocolate martini nightcap before bed. I love Cheers.
