Casino "Comp" Questions

I am wondering how much you need to spend on the slot machines to start receiving "comps"? What are some of the "comps" you have received? How do we sign up, in advance or onboard?

Thanks,

Rhonda

There are a few ways to get a comped cabin, You can receive one from a land based casino or you can get it from CAS directly. You must have played on a previous cruise to call CAS direct as they need to see your previous "play". They look at your history and calculate then if you are entitled to a discount or a comp. I have heard previously they require an average of 4 hours of play per day but they just raised the theoretical losses to $2800 for an oceanview cabin so my guess is that has been raised to 4.5-5 hours a day.

As an FYI table players are rated the worst on cruises and the points gained rarely add up correctly. Slot and video poker players are tracked a lot better.

$5.00 in a slot machine = 1 point

$10.00 in a video poker = 1 point

It is safe to say if you rack (or have racked up) 2500-3000 points on a cruise you would receive a comp.

You can't "sign up" beforehand if you have never played on NCL before, you would sign up in the casino when you are onboard.

I have noticed on the BA that the casino tends to tell new players to use their room key for tracking points as opposed to giving them a lucky card.

You cannot sign up in advance. You sign up at a ship casino with the casino host to get a slot card and gamble with that.

To get a free casino drink card for that cruise you need to do at least 1500 points (or was it 1900?). $5 in (credits won or your money, doesn't matter) = 1point.

For comped cruises, as of this past April 1st, only those offered OV cabins or above will receive the casino drink card in their cabin at embarkation. Inside comps will not.

I don't know about meal comps. I do know that some high point gamblers get them. I've never seen any number of points that earn them. Even a free drink seems to be up to pit boss and/or casino host unless you have a CAS casino drink card (or UDP).

Cabin comps evidently are for cabin only. You pay fees and DSC. Some big gamblers have had their DSC covered by casino host at end of cruise based on their gambling amounts that cruise.

I have no idea how CAS decides who gets invitations for comped cabins. My husband is not a big gambler (less than $100 per day of his money), plays mostly tables. He takes part in almost all casino tournaments aboard ship. After our 28 day Star cruise he got an invite for a comped inside cabin for a particular cruise. He didn't accept since it was out of NY in winter. Air travel to there too iffy for us.

I am not a big slots gambler. Probably less than $100 a day of my money. But in February I received an invitation from CAS for comped inside cabin for special slot tournament, including casino drink card, for choice of one of two 7 night Caribbean cruises. I chose Jewel out of Houston's Bayport terminal. We leave on it next Saturday.

So, evidently even small gamblers can get invites. I don't know if we got them because our last two NCL cruises had lots of sea days and our presence was noted in the casino, or if the host recommended us, or it's because we took part in many casino tournaments or a combination of all of the above. Our Harrah's cards are lowest level. Get an NCL player's card from ship casino, use it, and hope for an invitation or discount.

don't play for comps.

its cheaper to buy outright instead of trying to get more points.

play for fun and if you should happen to hit a certain level, then that's a bonus ontop of the entertainment you got for playing.

as to how much:

$2800 theoretical loss to get a free oceanview the next cruise.

i did the math in one of my previous posts.

it's like $70,000 coin-in.

i earned an avg of 1000 points in each of my 3 ncl cruises.

i called CAS for the hell of it. they only offered 10% off my next cruise.

(standard minimum used to be 20% off till the new mgmt <ie: Del Rio> changed it this month. :mad: )

Just to clarify;

If you are offered an inside cabin and you are level HOT you will receive the drink card as it is part of your level perks.

Also at HOT you will receive at a dinner for two with wine at a specialty restaurant. Again a part of the level benefits. I have had the casino host offer me the dinner before I made it to HOT and have been offered extras dinners at both HOT and GOLDEN.

I have never had my DSC removed from my on board account even though they have picked up everything else. I have been told that any DSC or extra gratuities are not covered. Not saying it has never happened but I was told it could not happen.

I have to second the bit that they really don't care too much about table players.

50$ BJ for several hours every day got absolutely nothing from a host and a total of ~950 in points. That comes out to about .5% theo.

Hopefully something else comes in down the life in the form of mailers or whatnot, but I really doubt it.

I just got off the Getaway end of February......I just called CAS Friday.. Based on my slot play I am comped an OV for 2.....just pay fees etc... To save on airlines I picked the NCL Dawn out of New Orleans and upgraded to a family suite to get the 3-6 person free. I won't be able to get all the free benefits of a suite but only of an OV so we picked the UDP for all 6 persons. Total for a suite....with UDP....for 6......is $1900 for 7 days with 4 ports. Now that's a deal!

I got a free cruise from a land base casino and includes a drink card. Is he drink card only good in casino or is it good at all bars

only good at the casino bar, and only when the casino is open.

(closed when docked in most ports.)

isn't blackjack like 99.5% return?

and if all you have is 950 pts, then don't expect mailers.

if you're curious, call CAS and ask if you get anything for your next cruise.

but don't be surprised if all they come back with is 10% off.

How much did you spend on the slots, if you don't mind me asking?

The exact answer is not easy to pinpoint...

but, if you put on your business hat, you can come to a few conclusions

The casino does not just give away rooms, or drinks. They attempt to get more money from you than they give away. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

So, if you are only giving them $50 a day, they are not going to give you a $200 a day cabin. Simple business. Very simple.

Also, in general, they look at your total play and assign a value to that play. If they can win 1% if your bet, and over the course of the cruise, you bet $1000, they expect to get $100 from you. They are willing to give SOME of that in comps. But, they are NOT going to give more than that. They would be out of business.

I played the first few nites losing around 3k.. I played mostly slots but a few times 3 card/let it ride combo. I gave up and just enjoyed my cruise. The last nite I decided to put $100 in the one machine I've been losing to and got back around $1300. So I still lost from the cruise. I got on the Getaway from a land based casino certificate for a free inside but I upgraded to a spa mini suite. Very nice room and the thermal spa was very relaxing. Next is a suite on the NCL Dawn.. I did ask CAS if I can book another but they say only 20% off and or wait to see my play from the next cruise. One thing also.....my brother played mostly table games and he lost more than I but was only offered 10%......

how many points did you accumulate on your card?

CAS offered you a suite straight up? no upsell?

it's not how much you actually lose. it's the theoretical loss based on the game you play.

blackjack have a 0.5% theo loss.

i would estimate slots have 10% theo loss.

3card poker -> maybe 3% theo loss? (I don't play this.)

if both you and your brother play through $50,000:

slots -> $5000 theo loss

blackjack -> $250 theo loss

and if you play through $50k on slots, you would have 10000 points.

for blackjack, it's voodoo magic on how your play translates into points.

I get 'comped' cruises through Caesars/Harrahs. I've been going on 4 or 5 cruises a year with a balcony comped and the free drinks in the casino. On board, I made it to 'Hot' and then 'Golden' with CAS. Even with that, CAS won't comp me a cruise as I don't play enough on each cruise to meet their requirements. It's doubtful I'll be at 'Golden' again due to the way they are making changes to that program.

I got comped for an Oceanview for 2. I upgraded to a family suite paying the difference. With the offers that is going on the 3rd thru 6th free....they told me its 1994.16 is my total. I don't know what they calculated or percentage but the Getaway was my first NCL cruise. Even though I'm in a suite I don't get ALL the free benefits so we took only the UDP for all 6. I don't get UBP or OBC or Free Gratuities but I do get butler and concierge and whatever perks that come with the room. I know I didn't play no more of my 3k cause I only brought 4 with me. When I did play slots I either play whatever lines times 5 or max 10 so that is either $2 to $5 depending on what lines just like land base casinos

I was at the hosts desk getting a new card and she said have a nice dinner and I was like.....ok. When we went to tepenyaki that night and checked in (we had made reservations) they told us the casino was comping us 2 dinners and a bottle of wine. That's why the host said have a nice dinner but she never told me she was comping it.

According to the CAS site, any HOT players do get a drink card.

However, they zero the points every April 1st, see site.

So I don't know if you will still be HOT next month.

When I was on the Jewel the Host would find me when I was playing, and come up and offer the comp dinners. The Jewel has a great Casino staff on board.
