I hate the fact that I feel like we have to beg for our perks at times. I also understand that there are always families that take advantage. On our last cruise a lady (not plat.) told her parents to send her 3 little ones wash so she didn't have to do it after vacation. GOOD GRIEF!!

You don't. You're freaking out about something that doesn't even exist.

I do that with under-the-bed monsters sometimes, so I understand.

:p

One dinner coupon per platinum cruiser (We used one at le bistro and one at Moderno).

Did the Platinum dinner coupon say it could be used at Moderno? We were planning to use one coupon at Le Bistro and the other at Moderno on the Star next month, but the pre concierge desk in Miami said Moderno is no longer an option for the Platinum coupon. The only other restaurant eligible is La Cucina.

Moderno was just moved to the same deck 13 location as on the Jewel. I'm wondering if it is a capacity issue now. I also checked the Latitudes Reward benefits and it does not say the coupon can be used in Moderno. I think I'll still ask the concierge on board.

Yes, on Jewel the back of our coupons said the dinner could be at le bistro, moderno or la cucina. That said, I have notice differences between the fine print on coupon on various ships and same ship over time, so the policy on your sailing on star may differ from ours on jewel. Read the coupon when you board; hopefully you won't even need to ask the on board concierge.

Our Platinum coupons on the BA said it can be used in LeBistro or other restaurants at $20 or less, but not as partial for ones with higher cover charges. A photo copy is in the review. Maybe the smaller ships are applying different rules this month.

It's not just this month. On our last cruise...December on the Gem, the coupon stated it could only be used at LeBistro, the Italian restaurant or the Chinese restaurant(and now this not an option as the upcharge there was just eliminated). The Latitudes benefits as stated on the website also no longer permits use at Moderno.

Seriously. With how easy it is become platinum now, they should devise another tier of Latitudes for us crazy cruisers... My Lee and I have over 160 days at sea, have been on multiple two-week long cruises, and one time we strung four cruises together across three ships out of Miami calling it our "Crazy Cruise Marathon" why not have another level of past cruise members? Super Platinum, Diamond... Whatever... We've been here for years earning our status... How about actually making us feel like you appreciate our business, instead of having every cruise director say "we know you have a lot of choices for your cruise dollar. We thank you for choosing us." Actions speak louder than words. AMIRITE?

Really how much does an extra free dinner in Bistro cost NCL? How much soap and water are really used with an extra bag of laundry? Not everyone uses these benefits. We know this. Why chintz on those that do?!

I have been called an NCL cheerleader. I love NCL. My lee and I have been On almost 40 cruises, all but one on NCL. I don't understand why NCL's focus seems to be on first time cruisers and to heck with loyal past guests.

I know NCL reads these boards very carefully. So I put it to you, NCL: which is more cost effective: giving loyal consumers of your product the perqs they've earned, or taking these perqs away little by little and losing us.

I don't know if Royal or Celebrity or Princess do it any better (I know better than to take a Carnival-tannic Cruise) but whittle away some more benefits and it may be time to find out... Ain't sayin nothin. I'm just sayin.

And I thank you

  • 2 weeks later...

FWIW, just off Sun and our coupon clearly said one bag per Platinium member which is what we used. I had planned on sending a third bag and attempting to see if we would get it free also but we didn't need to wash anything so I can't report on that.

I totally agree with you!!!!!

Little as platinum benefits may be they do keep us coming back.

Cutting back like they are and making it easy to become platinum, sends me away to other cruise lines.

Celebrity use to have three tiers in the loyalty program, but because of many complaints from the Elite (top tier) cruisers that there were too many Elites, it was too easy to become Elite and the cocktail parties were too crowded, Celebrity changed their program. They added two more tiers (Elite+ and Zenith), but unfortunately for their Elite customers, they also made it much harder for them, as well as everyone else, to make the next levels and there was so much complaining about this. Not to mention, that the perks for Elite+ were much less than what they were expecting. I think the old Elites thought they would automatically be grandfathered up to Zenith, but alas they didn't have enough points to get their and some will never.

Here is a post today on another site I belong to, this was made by a passenger currently on the Jewel and was posted after the M&G today

Then I talked to the Cruise Consultant - EVERY platinum guest gets a bag of free laundry

I myself was on the Breakaway last week on the latitudes rewards coupon for laundry both are names were listed. It clearly states under notes on the coupon-One laundry bag during the cruise Per Platinum member

We sent out two bags one with his name and one with mine and didn't pay for either.

Below is the live update on the Jewel's 9 day sailing by SC2011 - who reported getting one coupon for two (2) Platinum member for the laundry yesterday @ embarkation, and, apparently - this matter is/has been straighten out.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2206355&page=1

The Jewel's Onboard Cruise Consultant/Liaison apparently, apparently has been doing that and has been called out a # of times.

Thanks for responding.. We have never had anything but wonderful experiences either, but we have only sailed with Princess. I would love to hear what avid NCL cruisers love about NCL.

I cruise on three different lines - Crystal, Celebrity and NCL and love them all. What I like about NCL is not having to dress up, like I do on the other lines. I like the specialty restaurants, I think they are fantastic. The crew is awesome, always smiling and working hard to please. I've met some wonderful people on NCL. I love the price, I go through Casinos At Sea and always get a great rate. Is NCL like Crystal or Celebrity, no it is different, but it is still a great line and I have enjoyed every cruise I've cruised with them. I never go on a cruise expecting it to be like one of the other lines or even like the last NCL cruise, because every cruise is different. I don't sweat the small stuff (like worrying how many free dinners I will get or how many bags of laundry I'll get) and maybe that is why I've never been on a bad cruise.

Just off the Jewel today after a lovely cruise, though we did have one surprise. We had previously had one free bag of laundry per Platinum member but now, now just one bagel cabin per cruise. We asked the cruise consultant Jorge about it and he said it was the new policy (though I believe he would have let us do a second bag this time if we had asked).

As a couple, we liked having two free bags, and we may pack a bit more if we only get one bag per cabin . Thought I'd share in case it impacts how others pack. Sorry if this is old news to some here, but it was new to me..

And we got off the Pearl the day before you got off the Jewel. There was only 1 letter in our cabin about free laundry, just like our previous cruise but you could still get laundry twice. We did it; in fact we asked our cabin steward about getting a laundry bag as we didn't have one in our cabin. He said; oh you will need 2, one for each free laundry. On our last cruise (prior to this one) we also only had 1 letter about the perks, including the laundry. The only letter we had for each of us was the free meal with wine. We have been platinum for quite awhile. I will add, we might want to be careful what we spread, let's not give NCL any ideas.

The UK site has said only one bag per cabin for Platinum for awhile now. Are you from the US or UK? Just wondering....

Harriet

Below is a link to the current UK site, and it does NOT say anything about only one free laundry bag per cabin - it states as follows:

Platinum members: complimentary one bag of laundry.

We have for several years now only received one voucher in the cabin, but ALWAYS received TWO free laundry bags per cruise (since we are both Platinum members). I never pack the voucher when I send my laundry bag to the laundry, I just write with huge letters on the bag "PLATINUM" in addition to the requested information you have to fill out. And I also write "PLATINUM" with block letters on the laundry slip, just below my name.

I do the same thing. I do not include the voucher either. I write my platinum # on one bag and my husband's on the second. We usually send them different days.

I am sorry, I somehow didn't notice that there were so many pages in this thread when I first replied. I see it now...

Aw, come on. Relax! We all know FDR gives CC posters no credibility . . . ;) just read the room service threads.

We do exactly the same; we do not send the same day, we prefer to send one about 1/2 through and the other toward the very end. In fact on a 7 day cuise (which we haven't done in years) I doubt we will use both. As for the voucher, there really isn't one. It is pretty much with the list of what we get and the instructions are clear: write platinum on the bag and the laundry list. Nothing more is needed. Oh yes, the p number as well.

That had been the case on our previous cruises. But on our recent April 11 cruise on the Jewel, we received a voucher with both our names on it and the instructions on the voucher were to put it in the laundry bag with the laundry. It did not say anything about writing Platinum on the laundry list.

Since it said to put the voucher in the bag with the laundry, there was no way to do a 2nd free bag.
