Cruise ship fan Posted April 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2015 I wonder if this is a semi permanent placement or just a couple of cruises, hopefully year round but most likely semi permanent. This might replace the Radiance since it is apparently due to go pretty soon.

This might replace the Radiance since it is apparently due to go pretty soon. My rep has confirmed it will be for the summer 16/17 season, so very similar to the other Aus RCI ship placements. Cruise itineraries to be released in near future. With over 4000 pax not sure how suitable this ship would be for a South Pacific itinerary, but would be fantastic for a New Zealand cruise. Esilef Posted April 15, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Happy happy happy dancing. Was thinking about going to Asia to go on one of these ships. I would love to do a 14 day cruise to New Zealand on her.
ozmonkeyboy Posted April 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Yes the ship is only for summer deployment like the rest of RC ships. But still great news for us...:D From Cruise Weekly this morning; Royal Caribbean to position brand new cruise ship in Australia Royal Caribbean International has just announced that its Ovation of the Seas will operate in Australian waters after it launches in late 2016. A sister ship to the groundbreaking Quantum of the Seas and the just-delivered Anthem of the Seas, Ovation will be the largest cruise ship to ever sail out of Australia, as well as being the most technologically advanced vessel in the region. Carrying around 5,000 passengers and 1,500 crew, the Ovation of the Seas will "completely redefine the idea of cruising in Australia," said Gavin Smith, Royal Caribbean regional vice president Asia-Pacific. Smith said the deployment would take the industry to the next level by offering a host of incredible never-before-seen features and technologies. "This demonstrates our belief in, and long term commitment to, the Australian cruising market," he said.

boeckli Posted April 15, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) From an RCI email just received: We Dream Big at Royal Caribbean. Why build something new when you can create something never before imagined? A ship that not only takes you to the sea, but to the sky. Where the nostalgia of childhood meets the technology of tomorrow. And a space you marvelled at a moment before is transformed into something completely different the next. Imagine a world shaped by land, perfected by sea. This world is our Quantum Class — a class that has redefined the idea of cruising, offering a host of incredible never-before-seen features and technologies. And for the first time, you will get to experience such a revolutionary ship right from your doorstep with the newest member of our Quantum Class, Ovation of the Seas, arriving December 2016. Ovation of the Seas is the third ship in the ground-breaking Quantum Class. At more than 168,000 tonnes, 16 guest decks and carrying almost 5,000 passengers, Ovation of the Seas will be the biggest ship and first brand-new ship ever to sail from Australia. Bookings for Ovation of the Seas' maiden Australian season are not yet open, but we encourage you to register your interest at royalcaribbean.com.au/Ovation to be the first to receive information on her local sailings when details are announced. Hazydavo Posted April 15, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Hmmm, whilst this is big exciting news am I the only one that would miss Radiance if she were to go as a result of this? The smaller ships should have a place here too!

Rare MMDown Under Posted April 15, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Ok maybe Radiance will stay :) Ovation of the Seas will be the fifth ship in the Royal Caribbean Australian fleet for winter 2016-17, joining four other Royal Caribbean ships:Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas in Sydney and Legend of the Seas in Brisbane. From the same Royal Caribbean blog.

From the same Royal Caribbean blog. I think Ovation might be too large for me especially as the crew to passenger ratio is quite low - 5000 passengers, 1500 crew - but I'll be interested in a short cruise just to check her out. Happy to hear that Radiance is staying - she's very special!:) Gae
kunnocat Posted April 15, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 15, 2015 I couldn't think of anything worse. I'm a small ships fan. But because of cost have to go bigger. 2000 is my limit. up to 1500 my preference. under 1000 Wonderful but costly since Athena left us. K

Kiwi Kruzer Posted April 15, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Before we get all excited, lets see the pricing . They will milk us dry on this one !! They will really rock it in for the maiden cruise ........but then they will be looking for 5,000 people to line up and pay up for each sailing thereafter, so the demand should wane. It will be interesting to see how many "short cruises to nowhere " they schedule......also .... which ports they will cruise to. Not all ports can handle 5,000 pax wanting to get off at the same time.
