Dynamic Dining is "Future of Cruising," Says Royal Caribbean CEO

Been following this discussion with interest, I really like the idea of DD if the processes are in place to book it in a timely fashion. I cruise about half of my vacation time, when travelling I enjoy different types of foods and place to eat, sometimes I want to dress up and go formal others I just want to grab something to eat. What I don't like is having to eat at the same time in the same place every time, so when I cruise I always do MTD and try different venues when I can.

Ovation is coming to Australia soon and DD is one of the reasons I'm excited about that. ( besides not flying for hours )

Less than 30% of reservations are choosing classic, seems like a waste to even cater to them, once they get to less than 20% classic will be gone, its the 80/20 rule.
When Classic was unveiled, RCI said that 20% of the dining reservations would be set aside for Classic. So "less than 30% of passengers choosing classic," seems like it conforms to RCI's marketing plan. And as other posters have pointed out, as people become more aware of Classic, they will be booking it. And folks that like us who were not enthusiastic about booking a ship with DD (choice) only, will be interested in booking a ship that has Classic.

Not if RC caps it at less than 30% . I believe that in a world where words mean whatever you want

them to mean , RCI will say with a straight face that "less than 30% of passengers (are) choosing classic",

actually means that's all we will allow to choose classic . Please tell me they couldn't possibly be that cynical .

I think demand will also be a factor in whether RCI increases the capacity of Classic beyond 20% or 30%. When they first started offering MTD on ships, the capacity was lower than it is today. For example on FR (which we sail most of the time), 1/2 of deck 5 was Traditional and 1/2 was MTD. Now deck 5 is all MTD.

I must admit, I am looking forward to the dynamic classic. but as I said previously, it's only because I kicked up a stink that I found out about it. so now I'm looking forward to it..........but at the same time am glad I didn't have to attempt doing ten separate bookings for ten separate nights. I think the proof will be in the pudding in the grande. If I see people in there in formal I will be happy.

But this cruise is going from Southampton. A lot of people will drive so luggage isn't an issue for British people and they (like my beautiful girlfriend) will bring everything !! lol.

Personally, I want to see how many people (like me apparently) didn't do their research. I could put money on 50% of the punters.

At the same time ...... WE CAN STILL SMOKE IN THE CASINO !!!! YAY !!!!!!!!

small mercys :)

You will not be happy because you will fixate on the few that choose not to adhere to the guidelines.

I'm glad that as a real life person you know me so well.

You are only hazarding a guess about me when you have no idea about me.

My issue with DD is that I don't want to have to spend time making reservations pre-cruise.

Jean, I often find your posts to be thoughtful and well thought out, but the statement above seems odd. You have over 23K posts, you can't find a little time to plan your dining with so many interesting choices.

safe travels

Because your paying a bomb and someone should be doing it for you. CC is her leisure time, that's his/her choice. Holidays are a different matter.

I think the whole booking thing will put off a lot of people.

People don't want the aggravation of booking things that should already be in place.

That puts me back to the whole ....... They book and don't turn up. and people that couldn't get booked end up in the wind jammer trying to find somewhere to sit carrying a tray full of grub. how classy !

And they still allow smoking in the casino.

Cool !!

ALL SHIPS, for every company should be NO SMOKING everywhere! Not even on outside decks. Not in Cabins.

Definitely NOT in the Casino. I love poker and was semi pro for a while in my early days (not aloud now with the wife, must have a Proper job) but I don't use the Casino on any of my cruises due to the smoking. No point having half the room smoking and half not. What is the smoke going to do when it gets to the other half? Stop and turn around? Don't think so!

Even just walking through the Casino is terrible.

PUH-LEAZE! When the folks up there quit calling their football teams the New York Giants and the New York Jets when the Giants have played all their home games in New Jersey since 1976 and the Jets since 1984 - then you might have a valid gripe against RCI.

Passengers base their flights on the closest airport to where they will board their ship so saying NY instead of NJ does make a difference.

Also, the cost of ground transportation is very different.

I don't get it! We have not eaten in the MDR for years. We don't like it. We like early but early misses sail away most trips we've taken. Early means we are rushing back from shore excursions to get ready in 15 min. Late is to late. We do WJ all nights except depending on how much OBC we have we do speciality rest. I know some have said they don't like prebooking 10 different places pre cruise. Aren't you pre booking shore excursions, spa treatments, salon for formal nights? If DD means we book ahead of time at a different resturant of our choice cool, we may get out of the WJ. When you go to Disney you book resturants 180 days out. You need to plan what park, what day and time. It's part if the fun for us and being in vacation.

I get it, some don't.

BTW, I have posted before that I don't understand why someone with 10,000+ CC posts doesn't have time to book DD

I think part of the problem has been Royal's IT dropping reservations. Plus it may be more complex for people travelling in groups of friends and family getting all the reservations linked together.

I'm curious though why you haven't tried My Time Dining?

Given Royal's horrendous record on anything to do with IT, I am not surprised that they flopped in putting in a new system. I would not trust Royal's IT group with a TI-1200 calculator.

How about giving those IT professionals more hands on training in real time before turning the system loose on trusting passengers only to have reservations vanish or having the system respond with various reasons why it cannot accept a reservation!:(

Yep. I could not agree more. I have had multiple problems on Royal's ships caused by bad systems.

Because up until our last cruise the menu was exactly the same. We could tell you what was on the menu each night. The new menu didn't interest us. So between everything mentioned earlier and the same food we went WJ. Different resturants with different menus would get us back in a dining room.

Great suggestion!!

We don't have DD on our upcoming FR cruise but I was quite relieved that I could do my Set Sail pass without issues. Finished them, printed, and printed luggage tags.

Just saw a post on an AU based social media site that RCL are pulling the plug on Dynamic a dining altogether...even to extent of delaying anathem of the seas sailings as they 'demolish' the dynamic dining venues and restore a traditional MDR for regular 1st/2nd sitting and My Time Dining. Not sure at this stage of the truth in it, seems a ROYAL backflip to the statement from Michael Bayley per Start of this thread ?? [emoji43][emoji45]

Take that with a grain of salt. Many have coomented that the current DR capacity requires more than two turns. All I can see is 100% MTD
