Lyndonn Posted April 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Has anyone tried this new App onboard yet? It's suppose to provide Free messenging between guests while onboard the ship. They say to download the App prior to boarding to avoid onboard wi-fi charges. http://www.princess.com/news/press_releases/2014/09/Princess-Cruises-Introduces-Free-Mobile-App-Feature-on-Regal-Princess.html#.VTrTFXD3aK0
GolfMom321 Posted April 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I believe it's only available on Royal and Regal right now. And on Regal in February, it wasn't working the whole week.
SRQfireman Posted April 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2015 worked fairly well for us on the Regal........I wish more ships had that
Pam in CA Posted April 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Currently available only on the Royal and Crown. Yes, you need to download before boarding the ship to avoid having to use the ship's WiFi to download it. Once downloaded, it uses the ship's Intranet and is free. napunani Posted April 25, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Here's the reply from PRINCESS in mid March to my inquiry about SEA MESSENGER The popular Princess@Sea web site is now live on nine ships. Using the free Princess@Sea web app, guests can use their laptop, smartphone, or tablet to easily access information about dress codes, events, gangway details, itineraries, menus, ports, weather, view stateroom account charges in real time, and more. In addition, guests can speak with other guests on the same cruise using the Princess@Sea Messenger. Princess@Sea is currently available on the following ships: • Caribbean Princess • Coral Princess • Crown Princess • Emerald Princess • Golden Princess • Regal Princess • Royal Princess • Ruby Princess • Sapphire Princess (English and Simplified Chinese.) In a short time, Princess@Sea has proven to be a popular and useful innovation for our guests. Work is underway to complete installation of Princess@Sea - and in more languages - before the end of 2015. ppmanusa Posted April 25, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Worked nice on the Regal late November. We use our phones for pictures so it just made sense only carrying one device so we could message, check our account and view upcoming events. Hopefully this helps alleviate allot the VHF walky-talky radios from the dining areas.
AE_Collector Posted April 25, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2015 What Princess says and what is actually up and running are 2 totally different things. But Princess@Sea and Princess@Sea Messenger are two different things. The nine ships listed by Princess are the ones with Princess@Sea but not neccesarily the Messenger add on. Ruby had Princess@Sea but not the Messenger part on March 21. Lyndonn Posted April 25, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) We're boarding the Royal this morning for the 26 day TA & BI cruise. We downloaded the App to all our Apple devices so here hopes it works! :-) Edited April 25, 2015 by Lyndonn
Potstech Posted April 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2015 On the Royal right now. Except for checking daily schedule and your onboard account it is a piece of junk. No notification of a message, very hard to figure out how to add contacts and no instructions on how to use it other than go to internet cafe. Pure junk. Are you using the app, or the browser based version? The feature of the app was to provide notifications. Of course, there was one report here that the IOS app did nothing more than open a browser. pmcue Posted April 25, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I used it on Royal a gew weeks ago. App did not always work so just started using intranet version. Noticed that many Patter items were not on list of activities. Easy way to check bill though.

No notification of a message, very hard to figure out how to add contacts and no instructions on how to use it other than go to internet cafe. Pure junk. If you are having problems creating your contact, ask for help. I am no tech wizard, but asking a question set me on the right course and I had no problems messaging my husband. There is no audible signal when you have a message, but there is a visible one on the main page. I never downloaded the app. I just used the onscreen icon. It may not be what you expected at this time, but it is certainly usable.
Potstech Posted April 25, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Not even close to what I and many others expected. Needs alot of work. had no intention of leaving it open all the time just in case I received a message. Try to get help setting up contacts wt the Internet Cafe that nly had 2 people trying to hel large numbets to do various things is not my idea of how to end time at sea. All it would have taken is some instructions in each room on a thing called paper to help many.
dtb55 Posted April 25, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 25, 2015 It was available in the Golden in early April and worked well for my needs. Denise
