onboard credit question

i have bought a ton of onboard credit for our cruise. i like to pay everything ahead :D my question is do they use all your obc credit before they start charging your cc. i actually think i have eougnh obc to cover the whole cruise. will they still put a hold on my cc ahead of time . also can i use this obc in the casino, when i purchased it today the guy on the phone said this obc was non refundable but i told him thats ok ill spend it all lol :D:D:D:D

If you get cash at the casino, they will charge you 5%, whether you have OBC or not.

 

They only charge your credit card at the end of the cruise, so if you have enough OBC to cover your charges, then they won't need to charge the credit card.

When you check in do not give them a credit card. Just set up your account as a cash account. If you spend all your OBC hey will still let you spend an additional $500 before requesting that you pay it down. Ypu can pay any outstanding balance with a credit card on board.

 

If you purchased he OBC it is fully refundable at guest services on the last night. In March they refunded me $400. I only Spent $600 and I had purchased $1000.

Many reasons.

 

Some do not have a credit card and do not want to travel with cash.

 

Right now cruisers from Canada and the UK changer very favorable exchange rates by purchasing US$ OBC direct from Royal in their countries own currency.

If I do this I wonder if I could go on day 6 and put a credit card on the account so that I don't have to worry with cashing out the last night and still avoid the 5% fee for using obc? I too have ton of it due to the RCCL credit card, plus the $200 RCCL was offering plus what the TA gave us.

There is no fee for using OBC.

 

There is a fee for getting cash out in the casino, the cash plus 5% is billed to your account. Some people use this as a way of getting back OBC that is otherwise non- refundable.

If your account is set up as a cash account there is no fee to withdraw cash at the casino.

 

There have been a few people that have posted this on the Canadian cruisers thread as many of us have been purchasing OBC in advance.

We did not give our credit card at checkin. We prepurchased OBC to get the favorable exchange rate and had OBC from Royal. What we did is cash out the remaining OBC from the casino on the last full day. We were not charged 5%. Then we went to guest services to add our card to the account in case charges hit the sea pass late. We did not want to have issues leaving the ship.

Anything you book before the cruise is charged immediately to the credit card. You would have to book onboard to use onboard credit.

Melsmom303, This might be a silly question, but I am asking anyway...How do you purchase OBC? Sounds good to me to have plenty spending flow already and not have to carry a bunch of cash to lock up in the safe.. I like the idea and the carefree feel of it..Thank you in advance :D

Onboard credit (OBC) is for use ONBOARD only!

 

Instead of buying OBC, just pay for things as you book them.....same difference!

I can't speak for the OP as I don't know where they are from, but for us Canadians, we buy the OBC in advance for what we think we will need + a bumper. If I buy the OBC in advance, it is only 10% exchange. $500 USD would cost me $550 CAD. If I use my credit card for purchases on board, it is closer to 30%. $500 would cost me closer to $650.

 

I only withdraw what I don't use.
