If these posts are true, that NO food is allowed to be brought back to your cabin, i will be a 'buffet cookie smuggler'. Anyone know a source for 'cookie runners'?

Who's with me? LOL

I'm with you and agree with Peg. I'm a firm believe of always having ziplocs on vacation. Not just for getting cookies for later but also bread, cheese, fruit... a snack off the breakfast buffet when going on tours. Someone else suggested bringing a plastic food carrying tray - lightweight and packs easy :D:D

My understanding, you can still bring food back to your room from the buffet and your left overs from dinner. I did hear (rumor until confirmed) the carryout rule is for the Blue Lagoon, O'Sheehans, etc.

We just ate in La Cucina on the Pearl tonight. My son ordered the Pizza. He had 2 pieces and then wanted to go to Kids Club. He's old enough to check himself in. I asked if we could take the rest of the pizza back to the cabin so he could eat it after kids club tonight. They would not allow us to bring the rest of the pizza back to cabin. Such a waste of perfectly good food that would have been demolished by a growing 11 y/o boy at 10:30pm!

Thanks for the firsthand information djmess. Fact trumps rumor/guessing/speculation every time. With so many changes (some good some not so good) firsthand reports are golden! We love the Pearl and hope you're enjoying your cruise...

Don't you remember the posts about two years ago where they cut back on cookies at the buffet?

In a case like this. are people asking a server to package things up, or can people take their items and carry them out? I find it weird to be told I can't take an item from the eatery.

Thank you very much for the report from the Pearl, I am wondering if that "no" came from the server or from the manager on duty? I still find it hard to believe that the server(s) would want to do that, but ...

Regardless, let's just say "don't ask, don't tell" policy would & should be a good one to follow.

Standby for those that will continue to proclaim this ain't so because NCL said so, and that it was a case of misunderstanding on the part of the poster mis-reporting the real story and purely another rumor

That's so ridiculous. What is wrong NCL? You need to feed your crew the left overs? Sheesh

Unfortunately people will still argue that it's not true a lot of people are I don't believe it and less I see it on this board. I Personally thank you for posting what had happened to you on the pearl regardless I hope you're having a wonderful cruise

I'm guessing this means an end to having breakfast on a lounger in the sun
If you are planning on taking breakfast from the buffet, all reports so far say that you can still take food out of the buffet, just not the restaurants. Edited by NLH Arizona

Whoa, no way! Wow, that really surprises me. Was it good pizza? I wonder if there has been some issue with finding pizza dumped on the carpet, video games, something why it's only available for room delivery.

I'm adding tin foil to my packing list :D

I honestly want to see them restrain me. I will just not say anything. I will just pick up my plate and leave when I want to....this seems to be nothing more then an effort to force the use of the radically over priced room service. If I am trapped on a boat you can not keep food from me. I have blood sugar issues and need to eat when I need to eat. Having snacks available in my room are a must.

if people stop tipping in the restaurants that are not allowing this, perhaps they will change their policies...however at this point, and i'm platinum, i don't feel any more loyalty to NCL....too much is happening that is really not in the interest of the consumer (is it ever being that NCL is a money making company?); however, Princess, Royal and Celebrity will be delighted to take my money too.

Now, you see, while I agree that "smuggling" food to your cabin is kind of funny and a black eye to NCL, bringing open foods, fruits, dairy products to ports is actually not cool. Not only is it illegal and fineable by local authorities, but you can actually bring in germs, fungi, seeds, etc. that could threaten the local flora and fauna. So, please, let's leave the smuggling just for within the ship, because, well, that policy is pretty idiotic.

What have you gotten for being platinum - I'm still working towards it. I'll have it by the time I go on my Europe cruise that has UDP/UBP.

I think that is a great idea, but how much $$$ do you think it would be for one cruise. I do have to wonder how many passengers actually take food out of the restaurants, sans O'Sheehan's. I only eat in the specialty restaurants for dinner and have only seen it a couple of times at Cagney's when someone took out their dessert.

Aw, a dessert smuggler ;)

We like to order a dessert and save it for a midnight snack.

SO I don't normally carry a big purse with me to dinner when we cruise BUT NOW.... I will be the crazy lady with the giant purse stashing our dessert. :p

The thing is, staff is already paid very little and work very long hours. A TA once told me they make like $50 a month for the lowest positions and work 15-18 hours a day - ever notice the same servers for ever meal? These jobs are door openers to leave their countries so they are happy to do it... but the tips are important to them.. it's not the server that is denying you the pizza takeaway.. don't punish them. I don't have an answer other than to write letters, lots of letters - it works for some situations. FYI, Pride of America staff get paid much more ... and there was no UBP, no casino, and higher prices.

For us the best Platinum perks have been-complimentary dinner for two in LeBistro (incl a btl of house wine) and a free 'bag of laundry'

These have been 'per platinum member'. Some reports have been that at least some of the perks are being reduced to one per cabin. We shall see
