Question about port days on ship

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken a cruise that has a port "every day"? Do they still have activities on the ship, like Bingo, dance classes, things to do for people who do not want to do excursions every day? Or is it very limited? I know you can do the spa, etc, but just wondering if they offer more. Thanks..

There are still activities on port days, but fewer than on sea days. You will still have things like trivia. Not sure if they would do Bingo.

My experience has been that you can't count on advertised activities taking place. If not many people show up for them, they really don't even have to run them. I went to a jewelry workshop once and I was the only one there. The AD ran it anyway although he told me he didn't really have to.

Many veteran cruisers like to stay on the ship on port days. This is especially the case when docked in Cozumel or Nassau. (Those places get old after so many times).

Spa will be open - expect to see port specials. Also expect to see a greatly reduced activity schedule. Trivia is a given. We've also seen late-afternoon Bingo but only when in port for a shorter duration of time than normal, i.e. 9-3.

It's fine to stay on the ship for an At Sea Day as long as you realize there won't be many activities offered as well as all of the shops and the casino closed. ;)

You NEVER have to get off the ship, if you don't want to! And, you can get off the ship without excursions...just stroll around town, if you want. Take a cab someplace...whatever.

They do have activities on port days....not as many as on sea days, because some of the crew get "time off" to go to port!!!

I have found that on many port intensive cruises, there is always some activities on board for those who don't go ashore....but as the afternoon moves along you will see more and more things to do, especially around the pool deck, when more cruisers are returning to the ship after their excursions.

On the cruises we have taken (all in the Caribbean), we usually do 1/2 excursions or those that get us back to the ship no later than mid afternoon. It gives us some relaxing time at the pool and the music is playing and sometimes they have a poolside zumba/latin dance session even scheduled.

ON Liberty a month ago, the only stop was Cozumel. We strolled off for about an hour then got back on the ship. The adult pool was relatively quiet and not all pool bars were open. I think the Sky bar was eventually open but only later in the afternoon. The good thing is that the roaming waiters had time to come see you. And chair Hogs were not as bad. WJ was scaled down. By mid afternoon, the crowd on board seem almost back to normal.

While we like port-intensive itineraries, it is a really bad idea to schedule snorkeling in each port. After three days we decided to cancel a few and just walk around the port and stay on board those days. No problem!

What eating establishments are open during day on a "port day"?

Depends on the ship. Windjammer is usually open. Cafe Promenade or Park Cafe are open depending on the ship. If Oasis class, a few more food venues will be open.
