Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 17, 2015 Author #1476 Share Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) Nice, I wonder what happens in the red room.;)Looks like the camera battery chargers plug straight into your adaptor/convertor. The room is blushing at the thought ! :o It's a nice device for cruises and traveling , 2 - 110 v outlets in front and 2 - USB ports on top . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 18, 2015 Author #1481 Share Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) We began our DIY trip to the Hermitage by purchasing a 2 day pass online which costs $23 each . We exchanged our printed receipt , for a ticket , at the museum . We also studied the museum plan which we had picked up there , on a previous trip . 1st Floor 2nd Floor And 3rd Floor We took the metro 1 stop from our apartment to the Admiralteyskaya station , the one closest to Palace Square . It's a new station , opened in December , 2011 . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiralteyskaya_(Saint_Petersburg_Metro) Peter the Great mosaic . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 19, 2015 Author #1485 Share Posted November 19, 2015 The bronze Victory statue on the General Staff Building A view of the Hermitage across the river Neva , from the Peter and Paul Fortress . We choose to visit on a day with no cruise ships in port , thus Palace Square was empty . It was still closed when we got there . We entered through the left gate . Then we found a small Kacca ( ticket office ) on the left , before the courtyard and exchanged our computer receipt for a ticket . We bypassed the small line at the door , who were waiting outside , while their guide purchased tickets inside . And then , we were in !
Rare MicCanberra Posted November 19, 2015 #1486 Share Posted November 19, 2015 A good guide is essential when touring, St Petersburg has some of the best guides I have ever had. One of the ones we had was an ex jet pilot/ engineer and teacher before doing guide work. She was very knowledgeable, had excellent English and several other languages, had travelled a lot so knew the world and was only around mid to late 30s. :D PS she was attractive as well.;)

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 19, 2015 Author #1490 Share Posted November 19, 2015 The Hermitage consists of four buildings bridged together . The Winter Palace , the largest , where we entered , the small Hermitage , the Large Hermitage and the Hermitage Theatre . http://www.saint-petersburg.com/museums/hermitage-museum/ After entering the building you first go to the coat check room ( remove your valuables ) . You may want a bathroom break before the long tour . The tour usually begins at the State Staircase ( Also called the Jordan Staircase ) . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Staircase_of_the_Winter_Palace It leads from the first floor to the main viewing floor of the Winter Palace . The previous photo is 2 photos together . The next is the painting on the ceiling . Beautiful marble and wife . We then entered the large State Rooms . First the Field Marshal's Hall . Followed by Peter's Throne Room , which is a bit of a joke since Peter died over a hundred years before it was designed . Check out the floor , simply amazing ! Our guide was Luba from SPB tours, she also trained the guides during the winter( tourist season May - Sept) I cannot speak highly enough of her, we also had an excellent commentary from Alexander on the canal boat ride. He is an English teacher out of season.

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 20, 2015 Author #1497 Share Posted November 20, 2015 We next moved into some really large rooms . Room # 195 - The Armorial Hall And Room # 198 - The Hall of St. George , aka the Main Throne Room And at 800 square meters , very impressive ! Another stitch to capture the ceiling and floor I'm not saying that this has been a long thread but - didn't we have dark hair when this began ? Photo from 2009 . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 21, 2015 Author #1498 Share Posted November 21, 2015 After leaving the St. George Hall we headed toward the Pavilion Hall in the Small Hermitage , pausing to look at this beautiful stained glass hanging in a window . Pavilion Hall is most noted for the Peacock Clock , by British inventor and jeweler , James Cox . It is an automaton that springs to life when wound up . Please see the video : The room also has some beautiful tables .
