UKLloyd Posted May 27, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted May 27, 2015 So pleased for you. Fancy having to unpack when you are on holiday, whatever next, pack again at the end  Why, will they pack for me at the end as well?:p:p:p
FreestyleNovice Posted May 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Nobody seems to use the unpacking service.. I sure wouldn´t, I dislike searching for my own stuff after he´s done or standing besides him and pointing at drawers. Not my thing.
perkydebrajean Posted May 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2015 We've never requested it, but I have read that some elderly people have used the service.
triptolemus Posted May 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Allegedly they do it, but after hanging here for a few years, I can't recall a single post from someone who said they've used the service. About the only thing I can see is elderly or disabled, as indicated above.
helpme Posted May 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 27, 2015 I would never have asked him or her to do my unpacking 20min glass of wine and Bobs your uncle all done.

I hate packing ad unpacking, does anybody use this service?? I will be over the moon if he does. Many thanks. As a personal choice, I would never want anyone to unpack for me. It takes me about 15 minutes to unpack and I organize my clothes and items how I want them. It strikes me that unpacking by a butler would appeal to people that have servants at home. About the only thing I can see is elderly or disabled, as indicated above. This is from a post made here on CC in 2013. Two years ago we had had a terrible embarkation, then the muster and by the time the bags came my 87 year old mother was exhausted, and the rest of the family were ready to go to dinner. She asked me if the butler would help her unpack. I said, "You can ask him." She did and he sounded like he already had too many requests with the usual mad dash on embarkation day when everyone wants something from the butler. He said he would try to get to her in about 20 minutes if she could wait. He arrived about 20 minutes later. She sat on the bed and took her things out of the suitcase and directed him where to put them. He then put her suitcase under the bed and escorted her down to the MDR where the rest of the family was at dinner
Kingofwylietx Posted May 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2015 I have read where people said they use this service. I have also seen someone post (here or another site, which is exclusively for the Haven) that they put their undergarments in a small, separate bag that they unpack themselves. I would unpack myself, so I know where everything is (realistically, there are not that many places to store clothes...so it should only take a second to find where the butler puts them if you have him/her do it). The packing service, though we have not used it, sounds pretty nifty. Supposedly, they are particularly good at packing and keeping things very neat and organized. This has come up in the past, you'll probably get a bunch of "why can't you do it" or "I'd never do that" posts. However, this is your vacation and it is something they offer as a standard service. If you wish to do it, then do it. Please come back and update me on what you thought of the service if you try it.
vince_g Posted May 27, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 27, 2015 On our November 2014 cruise on Breakaway, we never met our Butler until the 2nd day. Butlers are incredibly busy on embarkation day, so I would not embark expecting that my things will be unpacked for me. You Butler will take care of delivering any in suite dining, and making sure your coffee machine is stocked.

NLH Arizona Posted May 27, 2015 #13 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Not my cup of tea, but if they offer the services and you want to use it, just ask and I'm sure they will accommodate you.

PCLMassachusetts Posted May 27, 2015 #17 Share Posted May 27, 2015 I am right in line with the rest of the posters here. 1) Having been in a suite recently and seeing how busy the Butlers are I would never think of asking one to un pack for me. 2) I would rather do it my self. It takes no more than 2o minutes and then I know where everything is. 3) I would never leave my mother to unpack while I went to the MDR. However, it is listed as a service so feel free to ask and let us know how you make out.

Kingofwylietx Posted May 27, 2015 #19 Share Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) If it had been my mother I would have helped her unpack and all go down to dinner together +1 My family would have stowed her things and taken her to dinner with us. Also, since the poster of that comment isn't here...I'll say this: Did anyone else notice they said "you can ask him". Seriously, that person didn't want to do anything for their mom. @Vince, we cruised 3 weeks ago. We met the concierge, butler, and room steward early on the first day. Oops, it seems I've contributed to the hijack. Edited May 27, 2015 by Kingofwylietx
Saraphine Posted May 27, 2015 #20 Share Posted May 27, 2015 I have no problem unpacking myself (although truly would be nifty if someone else did it for me!). But packing at the end to go home? Ugh. How depressing! I would want to be out enjoying my last evening on the ship, not moping about in my suite cramming stuff into my suitcases. Rare Turtles06 Posted May 27, 2015 #21 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Every time I read a thread on here about the butler unpacking for you, I chuckle because I immediately think of Cherie Blair, wife of former British PM Tony Blair, and the story she tells about how she happened to have an unintended pregnancy at the age of 45. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-565884/I-got-pregnant-Leo-I-embarrassed-contraception-Balmoral--Cherie.html
DMH15 Posted May 27, 2015 #22 Share Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) I look at it this way. Some suit thought this perk sounded good on the list. But heavens! Embarkation and disembarkation days are so hectic, especially for the butlers. I have never utilized this perk but if anyone did they should realize and be patient and definitely tip extra. That's JMHO of course. Edited May 27, 2015 by DMH15

vince_g Posted May 27, 2015 #25 Share Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) When you get to your suite, just give your butler a call on the cordless. They will let you know if/when they could do it. Please realize this is not your personal butler, so don't get upset if he/she can't do it. Our butler showed up and introduced himself on day 2, so he must have been straight out on embarkation day. Happy sailing! Edited May 27, 2015 by vince_g
