gailjen Posted May 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2015 We have booked this excursion, firstly would we be one of the first to tender as booked on a Princess Own excursion? Also does the tender take you to a different part of the island for the start of this trip? As there is no mention of the cable car on the outward journey? Anyone been who can advise, Thanks 😀 Oia & Fira JTR-205| Santorini, Greece 4 hours from $85.95 Oia Fira Winery Tour You will see: Santorini Crater The Mountain of Prophet Elijah Strenuous Includes snack Shopping Stroll the cobblestone lanes of Oia, a picturesque village perched on the caldera's rim, sample the fruit of the vine from a delightful local vineyard and explore the whitewashed beauty of Fira on this guided walking tour, which includes a ride back to port on the cliff-top aerial cable cars. CruiserBruce Posted May 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2015 Yes, if you are on a ship's excursion, you go ashore at a different location than the non-excursion pax. However, your excursion may not start immediately upon arrival at Santorini. It may go later. Did you select a departure time when you booked the excursion? elfie Posted May 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2015 You may want to rent a car or scooter. We did that when we went and it was wonderful exploring the island at our own pace. We saw and did everything described in your excursion and more. It's super easy traveling on the island.

Sometimes the tender with the excursion will head over to the ferry pier and the tour leaves from there. Otherwise you have to deal with the cable car. 2pbears Posted May 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2015 We did the Oia Fira Winery Tour with Princess in 2011. It was an early morning tour (I can remember tasting wine at 8:30 A.M. so we must have caught the tender by 7:30 or 8:00). The winery that we went to was at the very top of the caldera and we could see the water on both sides of the caldera from the top. The views were amazing!!! From there we went on to Oia. We actually left the tour in Oia because we wanted to go down to Amoudi for lunch. We let the tour guide know we were leaving the tour and she gave us our tickets for the cable car ride back down at the end of the day. After browsing around Oia we walked down to Amoudi and had a wonderful, quiet lunch right on the water then took a cab back to Fira. It was an unforgettable day! Enjoy! We enjoyed the same tour & went independently to the museum at the end of the tour before using the cable car tickets & then the tender back to the ship. Friends opted for the cable car & public bus independently but in early December the bus only went hourly & it was very crowded. gailjen Posted May 28, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted May 28, 2015 Thanks for all your replies, sounds amazing and so looking forward to it, but also don't want it to arrive as its the last stop of our 14 night cruise.
Chloe1500 Posted May 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) We took the same tour as well. We were among the first off and tendered to the new port (no cable cars or donkeys) where buses were waiting. The winery was a great stop for the view alone--the wines just ok, but the olives were outstanding. Next up, we were dropped at Oia on our own where my husband and I found a cafe on the rim and had breakfast, then plenty of time to stroll through Oia and shop. We took the tour bus back to Fira for more strolling, shopping and drinks in a cafe with an outstanding view. We were given tickets for the cable car down to the old port. Maybe we were just lucky, but we did not have to wait for a cable car. It was a fantastic day. Edited May 28, 2015 by Chloe1500
Rare azbirdmom Posted May 29, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 29, 2015 We enjoyed this tour as well, although the wine for breakfast part was a little weird. But when in Greece on vacation... We did the whole tour and got to Oia before the crowds arrived, so that was nice. Also stayed in Fira as long as possible after the tour and pretty much were on the last tender back to the ship. It was a lovely day!
dd57 Posted May 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 30, 2015 We just did this excursion a few weeks ago. We were one of the first groups tendered off. The bus took us to Oia first with a good amount of free time. Then we went to the winery. It was very rushed. Mediocre wine but fantastic views. Then the bus took us to Fira and dropped us off near the Archeological Museum. We too lucked out and basically walked on to the cable car.
Putterdude Posted May 30, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 30, 2015 I spent hours if not days researching this tour as Dudette would be in her wheelchair. I finally determined what the previous poster has mention was the case....so as the tour ended in the vicinity of the upper level of the cable car and it is not accessible (the cars are accessible but the station is not) she elected to stay on the ship. I joined a group from our roll call, we rented a minivan and had great time. The island is very small, you can't get lost and there are car rentals within a couple of blocks of the station.
