One night of specialty dining

Recommended Posts

We have one night of specialty dining paid for by our travel agent. Where do you recommend that we (husband and I) go? Doesn't need to be most expensive, but just an overall good meal and experience.

You have a few options but it should really come down to what you prefer. So I would say Giovanni's or Chops - depending on whether you prefer steak or Italian.

150 Central Park is another option although I am not a big fan of that place. But don't take my word for it since everyone has different tastes.

I agree with Bob, but then again, Bob is normally spot on. :)

I loved Chops but it's gone down hill. But love Giovanni's. But one consideration is using the free one at Chops then do Giovanni's for lunch. A bit more limited menu, but very nice.

If 150 Central Park is an option, do that. It's a gourmet tasting menu and a very nice experience. But you do need to be adventurous. Same with Chef's Table But my guess is it won't be usable for those two events.

I'd go with Giovanni's. We have not been impressed with the quality of steak at Chops lately.

Echoing the vote on Chops, 3 years ago I would have said hands down, Chops is great. The experience has been steadily weaker each time though over the last 3 years. It is still a "good" meal but nothing special at this point.

Tried Sambas (Brazilian) on Allure last year, I thought it was ok, rest of the party wasn't impressed with one coming down with food poisoning (lesson of the day: never eat salmon off the appetizer buffet when they are going to bring you all you can eat meat at your table!)

I would say give Giovanni's a try :), but If the menu doesn't appeal Chops is a solid choice.
