Adult daycare is coming back

Recommended Posts

We've sailed out of Galveston (Mariner and Navigator) at least a half-dozen times over the past few years, and have never seen the pubs more than half-full (often less than that) when live entertainers (using the term loosely) were performing. It would have been an effort for us to stay awake, especially after a day of intense (for us) activity on shore. But irrespective of our condition, we always made it to Derek's mayhem, and left rejuvenated (not all the result of alcohol infusion). His return is long overdue.

Totally agree, we were on Navigator last 2 years, this year Pub person was ok, last year he was terrible and Pub was totally empty, I was talking to my wife in elevator about Pub person and how I wished Derek was still there and this little old lady, agreed and said current player sucked.

Yep have not been too impressed with many of the live entertainment in the pubs , so glad Derek is coming back and even more happy we are booked for next May , use to be one of the highlights of the Alaskan sailing.

Also glad to here he is coming back. He honestly makes the evening to be "people watching" at its finest.

I do miss the days of him on the Rhapsody out of Texas just randomly throwing a microphone in front of someone heading back to the aft lounge, and making people conga through to/from aft lounge!

Wife has given me the thumbs up to book an Adult DayCare cruise, but the best rate I can find for the exact same category we have booked in November is almost 25% higher. :(

Is there a reliable site that monitors and reports rate drops?

BONNIE! I can't believe we keep missing each other onboard. Hope you are well! I think of the Dallas land cruisers often - too bad everyone was so dang spread out.

Yes we have been among the many hoping that Derek would make his way back to Galveston once the smoking policy changed and he was able to sail again. So very sorry to hear about his Mom but glad he was able to be with her. He is indeed unique and such great high energy! I don't know why Royal has not been more proactive about getting fun entertainers like him on the other ships - most are putting everyone to sleep! Hey Royal - keep us awake and we will spend more $$! :D

One day we'll meet up on board! I tried posting on the DFW thread and it did create some interest....only for a short while. Hey, I have a picture of you, your husband and myself taken at the land meet and greet at Bahama Breeze a bajillion years ago!! I can send it via email but you might hesitate posting your email on here. I know I would. LOL

I also passed the pub on the Mariner TWICE and as others have said ,the pub was half empty and REEKING from smoke. It was so very unwelcoming.

Wait until those not familiar with Derek see what he's all about. I don't know anyone who doesn't walk away happy. My one issue is that the pub is small and will fill up quickly. However, the intimacy is part of the attraction.

Awesome news!! He has been missed. I was sad to read about his mom's passing on Facebook. We have spent many nights enjoying him on both Rhapsody and Voyager. I still have the CD and t-shirt. Superstar!!

Awesome news. I first sailed with him when Rhapsody left Galveston going through the Panama Canal. It was a riot every night in the Schooner Bar. Now I have the chance to become a Superstar again. Welcome back Derek, we missed you.

This is good news, too bad I am Liberty in November :(.

I've never understood why Royal (and Disney for that matter) can't get better pub/piano bar entertainers. In six cruises I've only really experienced one good live performer on Freedom in 9/2012. He was a great piano player/singer and the Schooner Bar was backed up all the way into the casino and blocking the entrances to the theater most nights, it was crazy. I'd gladly pay extra to be on a cruise with him again.

Every other cruise of been on DCL and RCL the piano bars of been completely empty, and the people in there are usually talking over the music.

From what I understand Jimmy Blakemore is on Liberty right now. I saw him on Explorer and the pub was packed every night. I'm hoping he is still on Liberty when I sail in October.
