Jenn410 Posted July 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2015 With the food being one of the best parts of the cruise I was wondering if you routinely bring any food or snacks with you on board because they are not offered on the ship?
Raring to go Posted July 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Candied ginger...not only does it satisfy my sweet tooth, it's great for nausea if you get seasick.
cruzeluver Posted July 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2015 No. Familiar with the phrase "like bringing coal to Newcastle"? There is an insane variety of foods available on board and I cannot think of any item that I would miss if I went a week or so without it.
podmon Posted July 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2015 I always wish i'd taken individual bags of chips or nuts to take to the bars which strangely are totally devoid of food.
mommom of 7 Posted July 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We always take a couple tubes of RITZ Crackers. They just don't have good crackers for our cheese & fruit plates, also like the Tuna at the deli with them. You would not believe the people that ask OH where did you get those. I have a hard time not sharing :) Char
RuthlessBoss Posted July 29, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2015 No. Familiar with the phrase "like bringing coal to Newcastle"? There is an insane variety of foods available on board and I cannot think of any item that I would miss if I went a week or so without it. The amount and variety of foods isn't the problem. For some, it's familiarity of rituals. I bring things like Cheetos to munch on once back in the cabin at night.
riffatsea Posted July 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We also don't bring any food. I can understand bringing ginger or if you have small kiddos maybe bringing their favorite snack but with all the food on board we wouldn't bring any more "junk" items to add to our already empty calories! The new Red Frog Pub does have some munchies if that is on the ship you are on.

rockdoctor Posted July 29, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 29, 2015 On our first few cruises we brought our favorite snacks - but they came home unopened. We now enjoy trying the snacks of the countries we visit. Part of the adventure.
crusinpsychRN Posted July 29, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 29, 2015 I take the very small bags of chips because most of the time the chips from room service are stale. Sometimes salami and crackers.
cruise_girl2002 Posted July 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 29, 2015 no. as much as I love some of my favorite snack foods (pudding, hot stuff chips), I can go a week without it. takes up space in my luggage for other important things lol. plus there is SO much food on board, its not worth it
DaisyGirl55 Posted July 29, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Usually bring some pretzels to munch on while reading out on the balcony, and bring a box of weight watchers lemon cakes to enjoy with my coffee at night as I generally do not eat the desserts on the ship. SadieN Posted July 29, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 29, 2015 why bring sand to the beach??? ;) Because this way we will have food the next time we're stuck inside the terminal for hours while they search for the couple who went overboard on the previous cruise. dmdiver Posted July 29, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 29, 2015 My hubby brings his protein drinks for morning workout. We have brought a few Atkins snacks in the past as well as diet cokes. Sometimes we just want something small to snack on while in our cabin reading the fun times.
love my grandkids Posted July 29, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Never have seen the point, they have more than enough food for us on the ship.
JB_Scott1981 Posted July 29, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We will be bringing Soda and pb and crackers. We are bringing the pb and crackers for port. We may want a snack on the horse trail ride or something and not want to take time to try and find something. Of course we will eat a meal in port but we like to snake between meals at times too. okgirl Posted July 29, 2015 #22 Share Posted July 29, 2015 I always travel with snack bars. I rarely use one while on the ship but they have come in handy during embarkation and debarkation delays.
cruising maniac Posted July 29, 2015 #23 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We always bring nuts for a snack in port and always bring some dark chocolate candies. Especially now since the pillow treats are gone.
springs741 Posted July 29, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 29, 2015 If we are driving to the port I find we do tend to throw a few things in the bag to munch. But more of a "we picked up along the way" items rather than planned out. I guess we also do it when we fly. No way am I going to let that $3 bag of airport chips go to waste. I am not meaning to flame anyone but last sailing out of Galveston I thought the couple walking in behind me was confused about their location. It looked more like they were going camping. I didn't stick around to find out how things turned out but they even had folding chair with them. The last thing I heard was "excuse me but you can not bring that into the building. Not sure if it was the chairs or the ice chest.
Tobypace Posted July 29, 2015 #25 Share Posted July 29, 2015 I always pack snacks/treats when I travel, including cruise. As a T1 diabetic, I must always be prepared for a hypoglycemic episode. It is less than convenient to attempt to get to a food location on a ship when it happens.
