Rare dickinson Posted August 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2015 We were there in May. I saved all my papers. Inverness On Your Own was $49.95/person. Depart at 9 am and Return at 3:30 pm. It says the drive is 45 minutes each way. Tour is non guided. Only a driver and no commentary. Hope this helps.
kayelbee Posted August 6, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted August 6, 2015 Thanks for replies. We are weighing up hiring a car which is £60 from a local Invergordon company or going into Inverness to hire there. Looks like the local company may be the best bet, if not we will probably get the local bus. Hubby did basic training nearby (Fort George?) and would like a reminisce in the area. Iceland Posted May 11, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2017 Last year we caught the local bus. Easy. We spent our time in Inverness and were back in time to look at the murals etc in Invergordon. Two ladies on the return bus had made it to Loch Ness on the local bus. $49 seems a lot of money for Inverness on your own.

We were very lucky when we took this tour in the fall of 2015 because we had a volunteer guide on the bus. She told us that there are usually no guides, but she loves her town so much that she wanted to share information about the area with us. She started by giving each of us a piece of heather, and then she narrated the entire ride to Inverness. Most of the day she was near the bus so that she could answer questions and give directions. Also, there are guides in the area of the church where most of the tour buses load who have maps and information. Thanks for the info on buses/trains to Inverness. We'll be back there in Sept. on the Caribbean Princess British Isles/TA, and we will probably get to Inverness on our own this time.
