amberjohn Posted August 10, 2015 #27 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Could someone tell me if everything is covered on these "free cruises"? A friend received one of these cruises and we were wondering what costs wouldn't be covered? thanks
dancersp119 Posted August 10, 2015 #28 Share Posted August 10, 2015 We used ShoreTrips booked through my TA. However, because they use the same tour provider (Fantasea) as the cruise line, and we were the only 2 booked through them, we were on the same boat as the people from the cruise ship. We only saved a couple of dollars BUT we were allowed access to the boat first before the cruise ship people, allowing us prime seats up front. I'm not absolutely certain, but I think Fantasea is the only outfit that does the Gosling Rum Cruise, so I recommend booking it on their website in advance for $50 per person; you'll save $7 pp off the cruise price, and be aboard first before the cruise people. Thank you so much..
Rare sunluva7 Posted August 10, 2015 Author #29 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Do you happen to remember if there is prime rib in the buffet one night? I didn't eat in the buffet any night, so I don't know. Hopefully, someone else might have the answer.

Mizzori Posted August 10, 2015 #32 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Could someone tell me if everything is covered on these "free cruises"?A friend received one of these cruises and we were wondering what costs wouldn't be covered? thanks We just used the free cruise coupon and we paid 658.00 for taxes and port fees only. Then had to pay gratuiity. We opted out of their insurance. We also had the option of upgrading if we wanted to.

leekel619 Posted August 17, 2015 #34 Share Posted August 17, 2015 We also live very close to Boston, and cruised on the Dawn to Bermuda Multiple times. It's a very nice ship with good service, decent food, and entertainment. There are few cruise options out of Boston. Hal has a few cruises scheduled for Bermuda, RCCL and NCL will do Canada and New England foliage cruises later on. I would love to see NCL add Charleston, S.C. to a few of the Bermuda runs, extending the cruise to 9 or 10 days. It's a little bit of a change-up, for those of us who think that 7 days is too short. Originate in Boston, sail to Charleston and stay 1 day, sail to Bermuda for the usual 2 1/2 days, return to Boston. Sound good? I think so. I think it sounds great! cibaygirls Posted August 26, 2015 #44 Share Posted August 26, 2015 I enjoyed reading your review as I am currently looking into a cruise in February. I typically cruise Princess but as my DH and I are travelling with a friend who is a teacher, we are limited on choices. I was looking into some NCL cruises during one specific week and there is one on the Dawn and one on the Getaway that seem like they might work, the Dawn is less expensive. I see you have cruised Princess as well; can you give me any insight into any distinct differences? or are they more similar than different? I dont mind trying a different line (I have cruised carnival also, but that just no longer seems like a good fit). I love the Princess product and am just worried that NCL is going to be too different. Thanks

My husband is an educator so I can identify!:) We LOVE Princess, and it's still our favorite cruise line. The biggest difference between the two lines is NCL's Freestyle Choice, and a lot of folks choose it because of the more casual atmosphere. Both lines have their plusses and minuses. I find the food on Princess better, but the entertainment choices on NCL - particularly the newer ships - Getaway, Breakaway, etc. - are far better. Princess ships are overall much prettier, and I have yet to find anything on any other line that comes close to Princess' piazza and the international cafe. Pizza? Princess' is the best at sea! Though I still prefer Princess, I would definitely cruise NCL again if it were the right price and right itinerary. I LOVED the shows and entertainment on the Breakaway, and the food was better on the Breakaway then on the Dawn - probably because there was a larger variety. Hope this helps. Sauer-kraut Posted August 27, 2015 #50 Share Posted August 27, 2015 What's the difference between sailing out of NY/Nj to Boston, looking at Celebrity or NCL Boston route gets you into Bermuda on a Sunday. Not too much going on and there is a reduced bus/ferry schedule. Dawn is an older ship, no big water park stuff on it. NYC run gets you in to Bermuda on a weekday so everything is open and available and no reduced bus/ferry schedule. Breakaway is a BIG ship where Freestyle kind of falls flat as you need to book your specialty dining and entertainment shows 90 days before you sail. Expect crowds in venues as well.
