Access to room to stash luggage

Maybe a better word, since no one is breaking a law, would be proper or permissable.

For those that don't know embarkation times here is the printed list from Carnival.

https://help.carnival.com/ci/fattach/get/677/1433523417/redirect/1/filename/Embarkation%20Hours.pdf

Thank for posting these times for embarkation. I guess these times are for peons like us that aren't VIPs of any kind (well we're gold but that's not getting us anywhere quick...LOL! We don't mind), and haven't paid for FTTF!

Since most people say that they arrive around 11 -11:30am and are not on-board until noon or 12:30...that means that us peons probably won't get on-board until 1 - 1:30p anyway...usually when rooms are available. So I don't see a problem. Anyway, we've always carried stuff on-board and we just head for the buffet, find a seat, take turns getting food, and by the time we're finished eating...the cabins are usually available. Not a big deal in any way for us! ;) We just go with the flow. We usually have a roll-on bag with soda and wine which the DH takes care of. The DS will have his backpack, and I will have a big tote bag. We don't carry on the kitchen sink. We just don't have a problem with keeping our stuff with us where we know it's safe.

I think the OP was just asking a question if it was "okay". If it was okay they would maybe do it...if not...I don't think they would do it. It was just a simple question and that's what we're all here for...to ask questions and get some answers. Why hit the OP over the head with a bat for asking a question...that I don't get.

No, Frodo - if I was told no, then I would just turn around & go back. There would be no need for a shouting match. And no, I would not remove gratuities - that's just wrong.

The time we did it, the steward told us where we could put the luggage where it would not be in the way - don't recall whether it was in a corner, closet or under bed. Seems like he was done with everything except the bathroom. No way do we want to make our steward's job more difficult. We do our best to keep a clean cabin so they don't have to pick up after us in order to clean. We are not unreasonable, entitled people, but you don't get what you don't ask for and you don't know the answer until you ask the question.

I think you missed the point on this one. He wasn't saying you would do that, but that the steward would not tell a guest no because he/she would be worried about the repercussions. Some people would go and remove tips if the steward said no.

The main point was that the steward will never tell a guest no as they would be worried it would reflect badly on them so asking the steward if you can leave your bags is always going to get you a "yes" even if the correct (and preferred) answer is "no".

I don't see how putting your 12-pack of soda and 2 bottles of wine (for example) in the closet would hamper the room stewards ability to clean up your room. And it should go without saying that if you decide to leave anything of actual value (I don't consider soda or wine or snacks to be of value) out in the open with your door open, you shouldn't expect it to still be there later.

Not saying to go ahead and go through the doors to drop stuff off, but wish people would just be realistic about this stuff. No one asking this is suggesting to drop off a few suitcases, start unpacking, and hang out in their room for a couple hours before they're supposed to be, while the steward tries to clean around them.

Not to diminish your response but you are looking at the situation through tunnel vision. One person interrupting the steward, no big deal, five people wanting access, now its getting crowded, everyone wanting access now its beyond OK into the ridiculous. Besides, is the steward supposed to id new items as opposed to "left behind" items for every cabin?

The doors are closed for a reason not a whim. The hallways are staging points not pathways. Every unauthorized person interrupts the process and delays the finish.

I just think people should be considerate...considerate of the stewards, other passengers. If someone wants early access pay for it...that's how the system now works.

Exactly Sweet Dutch Girl

It's "no big deal" for one or two people to sneak in. But what makes them such special snowflakes that they get to do it. Clearly not everyone on the ship can do this- or they would just allow it.

If you want early access to your room, buy FTTF or cruise enough to be Platinum. There is a system in place for early access. It doesn't involve people who think they are above the rules sneaking by "just for a second".

Lots of people carry on soda and wine and a carry on. Bring it up to the Lido until the rooms are open like everyone else!

I have to agree with you on this one. Stewards would have absolutely no idea what you brought in to drop off and what potentially was left behind from a previous cruiser.

Not to mention I would be uncomfortable leaving my carry on luggage in the room, leaving the rooms open to the unfinished rooms makes the stewards job easier and I would be concerned that a door would be left open, therefore exposing your luggage to whoever could be walking by. I mean I know the steward wouldn't intentionally do this, but I could see it accidentally happening.

On our last two cruises, they had a person standing by the big door on our deck checking room keys before opening the door for you. They did stop people without priority boarding.

Isn't it ridiculous that it has to come to having guards stationed at the doors because some jerks feel the rules don't apply to them? I agree that the steward will never say no because the majority of the jerks would take their gratuities off because the steward was rude.

I can confirm this too. On my last cruise with FTTF there was a crew member at the fire doors to the hallway that checked to ensure you had FTTF or were Platinum or Diamond and eligible for going to your cabin early.

This was our experience as well. Saw them turn away several people as we were waiting to get through the door.

This is probably a dumb question but oh well, here goes. :o I'm sailing with my boyfriend on the Sunshine in December 2016, we're super excited!! :D I'm Platinum, it'll be his 1st cruise ever so he'll have a blue S&S card. Will he be able to come with me to our cabin when we first board the ship (before the doors are open and the cabins are officially ready) or will I have to take both our carry on bags and drop them off myself with my Platinum card? I know he'll be able to check in and board with me but I'm not sure about going to our cabin early. Doesn't matter either way, I was just wondering.

Katie,

It sure is ridiculous. By their self entitled actions...they cause more rules to be put in place...which affect all cruisers.:(

I'm sure glad that they do have someone to prevent those that should not be going to their cabins early.

I remember when the new FTTF which allowed Plats/Diamond to take luggage to their cabins first came out, there were people bragging that they always took luggage to cabin. And yes, the cabin steward won't complain cuz there might go their tip.

Doesn't matter what we think or even know. These are the embarkation times set by Carnival and published on their web site. And I provide these because they are one of the "rules" that should be adhered to but aren't. If you board at these times you're rooms will be ready and you will have access to them...end of story.

They are not the "rules". Carnival welcomes you when they open the doors and start processing people at 11:00 or so. There is absolutely nothing wrong with arriving then, at least in many ports. (At some ports it may be a problem) You are of course correct they publish those times on their website, but as I said that is just done in an attempt to spread out the times people arrive.

And guess what, if you are following their stated times, you are a big winner! Most of the rest of us have already boarded so you'll have clear sailing through the boarding process if you arrive at 1:30 or later. If we all showed up then like you want us to, think of how much more crowded it would be.

So you win by getting fewer crowds when you show up, I win by getting on board earlier, having lunch, checking my dining room seating arrangements, (Which, incidentally, the time to go see the maitre 'd usually starts at 1:00, so there goes your theory that we aren't even supposed to be on board at that time) we both win! It all good for both of us.

Actually, the guards always escort me to my room. They aren't centurions. They are there to help. And help they do. I always head right to my cabin to drop my stuff off. Only once was the room not ready, and I introduced myself, dropped my stuff, and went on my merry way.

JH just posted on facebook about this topic and as expected, if you are entitled to access the rooms early by your carnival status or FTTF, you should NOT be going there EVEN if the stewards say its ok

I don't understand this, you are saying that even if you can go because of your status/FTTF that you shouldn't go? How does that make any sense?

no

maybe I mis-worded it. if you have FTTF or the right status, go on in. your rooms are ready and locked and you cna drop off your things.

if you dont have the right status or FTTF , please stay out until your room is confirmed ready

edit - I just reread it.. I butchered it.. sorry
