jkloni Posted September 7, 2015 #51 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Thanks for the updates. How fortunate the ship was in port. Would have been pretty scary at sea. Hopefully no one was injured. -Kathy
joepeka Posted September 7, 2015 #52 Share Posted September 7, 2015 https://www.facebook.com/JohnHeald/posts/1036588343050393 John Heald said it was a fire in the ship's engine room. Interesting thing: that has been pulled from JH's FB page now.
pauleydm Posted September 7, 2015 Author #53 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Men and women of the Virgin Islands Fire Department are here now. I am not sure how long they have been present, but this is the first time I have seen them. The ambulance is leaving now with its lights on. Staff and crew are still in groups outside the port entrance.
pauleydm Posted September 7, 2015 Author #54 Share Posted September 7, 2015 There have been no official announcement that there is an engine fire made by the captain, although all indications is that there is something going on to merit the fire department. There have been no signs of smoke leaving the ship.
triphopcooper Posted September 7, 2015 #55 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Hope everyone is safe and the cruise can continue. I'm sure people are probably freaking out. I'm suppose to sail on her in less than 6 weeks now.

nhraformula00 Posted September 7, 2015 #60 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Sounds like they have the fire out and are probably airing out the engine room. We always take a copy of our passports with us when leaving the ship. Glad to hear there were no injuries.

pauleydm Posted September 7, 2015 Author #69 Share Posted September 7, 2015 You can tell people are getting tired, but the mood seems to be positive. A lot of people are sitting in the shade on the side walk. I talked to another passenger that said he saw black smoke coming out of the whale tail before we were evacuated. By the time we got off the ship, there was no visible sign of smoke.
bumbles Posted September 7, 2015 #70 Share Posted September 7, 2015 I'll always carry some cash and a credit card on my person.... Yeah, but when you're lounging by the pool expecting to be able to go back to your cabin if/when you needed anything - you probably just have your sign & sail card. I know I would - I'd never expect to be evacuated from the ship!
pauleydm Posted September 7, 2015 Author #71 Share Posted September 7, 2015 I'll always carry some cash and a credit card on my person.... We were just planning on playing trivia and having a relaxed day since we have been to St Thomas two times. I am glad I have my medicines with me at least. booknerd2011 Posted September 7, 2015 #72 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Webcam is showing more people on the deck now. Hope it was small and the evacuations and trucks were more of a formality. Hope you can return to your cruise soon and no changes are necessary.

That stinks, Pauly, but you will have a great story about the time you had to abandon ship (while in port). :)
