Freedom of the Seas questions

Just off the Oasis on its August 22 rerouted Eastern Itinerary that went west due to the hurricane. Looking at next August and seeing Oasis and Allure split the St Maarten, St Thomas itinerary. Neither ship goes to both ports. I see the Freedom does have both St Maarten and St Thomas on its August 21 itinerary. Any comments on the Freedom and that itinerary that also includes CoCoCay out of Port Canaveral ? I see many people seem to love the Indy, just haven't heard much about the Freedom. Thanks Gerry

We are just back from the Freedom Aug 23rd sailing. We went West instead of East because of Hurricane Erika. While Freedom is alot like Indy and Liberty, it was my least favorite of the three. One big reason -- the pool deck was SUPER slippery. I don't recall that on any other boat. I lost count of how many people I saw fall. Bare feet on the wet pool deck was a bad combination. Otherwise, the ship was great.

Yes, that is why we're thinking of this cruise to replace the "lost" St Maarten and St Thomas stops we missed this year. Thinking CoCoCay is a good trade for Nassau. Gerry

Will let you know when we return from that itinerary in October. We love the Freedom. Much more than the Allure. Freedom was the right size for us. We didn't have any problem on the pool deck or see anyone who did - but it seems to be posted here a lot so beware.

We had a great cruise on the Allure, but it was just TOO big for us. No matter how much space there was - we still felt like there were 6500 passengers on the ship. The few "extra" things that the Allure has, would never tip the scales over the Freedom, for US.

Freedom is one of our favorite ships. Go for it.

Great ship and eastern w/coco cay is a great itinerary. We've done it twice and still haven't done everything there is to do on the ship. Spent every sea day on the pool deck and never saw anyone slip or fall. But we did ruin a few bathing suits because they decided to caulk the black tar stuff between the teak slats that surround the pool on our latest trip.

Freedom was our first cruise last Spring. We did the eastern itinerary and LOVED St. Maarten and St. Thomas. The water is just gorgeous! Highly recommend Bernard's tours on St. Thomas. My kids loved the giant slide on Coco Cay (they were not fans of the floating playground area) and my son saw rays swim right up to the shore with his swim mask. It's a nice relaxing beach day. :)

We also loved all of the activities on the ship. Plenty to do for all ages.

(And, now that someone mentioned it, I do remember people slipping on the pool deck, but mostly kids who were running to the Sprinkles Ice Cream machine!! :D:D:D)

Coco Cay is a very good trade off for Nassau! Freedom is a very nice ship and I have sailed on her twice.

We've been on FOS 3 times and were going again in a couple weeks. This will be our 2nd time doing the eastern route and we prefer it to the western. Less port intensive, and a little more relaxing IMO. Never really had any complaints about the ship, always been easy on and easy off at the old terminal and the new one only sounds better. We had Richard Spacey as a CD the year before last and really enjoyed that trip, he was awesome.

Overall though, fantastic ship, little crowded at times in certain places but we can always manage to wander off and get away. Go for it! ;)

Thanks folks. Just booked OS 1334, anyone familiar with that area ? Again, thanks Gerry P.S. Now just read a CC piece about flushing toilets above 1334. aarrgg. 1648 is available but next to the hot tub of Royal Suite 1640 next door.

We are in 1340 on our next cruise. We enjoy the starboard side for a better view coming into ports. 1334 is the front part of the hump which will give you great views, but it is under the woman's bathroom, so it is possible to get some noise. There was a review on this room a long time ago dealing with the flushing noise , and the poster wasn't bothered by the occasional noise. We have also been in 1350 and found we had no forward view at all due to being on the backside of the hump. Either way you could have noise, from the hot tub, or a flushing toilet. Bring ear plugs and have a great cruise !

We are in OS 1340 on our January cruise - very excited to be in the center of the hump. I am looking forward to views to the front and back of the ship.

From my research (and I research A LOT), the Freedom of the Seas seems to be a favorite ship of many. We love to have fewer ports, but some of our favorites. We have not made it to Coco Cay yet (didn't make it on previous cruises due to rough water and not able to tender in). I am hoping we make it this time!

We were in that Owners Suite on the Freedom, and I'm sorry to say hated it. Yes one of the things was the flushing but you can put in earplugs. The other thing was we seemed to have maintenance at the door a lot to do something in the ceiling where the room divided (not exactly sure). One day I was taking a nap and had the do not disturb on the door and they came in anyway because they said there was water upstairs. Could have just been that particular week but I would never book that room again.
