Why people love "express or private lounge departure"?

It might be European only, I've only cruised in Europe and only ever with Royal Caribbean.

 

Sometimes they announce it, sometimes we've asked at Guest Relations - but always got it.

 

If you venture to this side of the pond for a cruise, do not expect to find the late disembarkation option. US customs and immigration insists that ships zero-out (get every passenger off, even those on back to back cruises) before they are cleared to begin boarding new passengers.

super scary thought. and here i am with a late flight that was considering avoiding the fray. i am now reconsidering that.

 

I think the odds of theft or mistaken bag is greater at airports than in cruise terminals. I could walk right up to any luggage carousel at my local airport, but I could not just enter any old cruise luggage claim area. Not to worry you more...just pack as wisely as you can, keeping most valuable items in your carry on.

When we cruise out of Florida we face a 10 hour drive. So we get off as soon as possible.

Yeah, we have an 8-hour drive, so we want to disembark as soon as we can. We purposefully leave the car full of gas and can usually be O-U-T the door and on the interstate by 8:00, which makes a difference in the drive home.

 

I can't say I've really paid attention to the rest of the crowd, but my own family is not confused or angry as we disembark. A little sad, maybe. Not excited about the drive home, of course.

When I stopped them and told them they had my bag and I wanted it back, they gave it back without saying a word. That told me they were stealing the suitcase and knew that raising a fuss with me would have been stupid on their part.

Wow. It's hard to believe people actually do these things! I think I'd have been tempted to "raise the fuss" for them.

 

In my opinion, this is a strong motivator for self-disembarkation. With wheeled luggage, most able-bodied people can manage it, and it eliminates the possibility of theft.

We're the exact opposite, my boyfriend and I always take advantage of the "late departure" tickets and hand around in the solarium until we're kicked off at 2pm!

 

You'd have to tear me off the ship kicking and screaming, I wouldn't never voluntarily leave early!

If I were retired and could take a day or two to drive home, or if my drive were only a couple hours, I'd agree with you -- but that doesn't fit my life right now.

I think mistaken identity (that is somebody grabs the wrong big black bag...confident it is theirs they don't read the name on the tag or not other identifying markings) is more common than outright theft. But certainly somebody could intentionally steal a bag, so do not put valuables in checked bags. If somebody steals mine, they will mostly get dirty clothes that probably won't fit them.

I do personally know someone who had some valuables (electronics, to be specific) stolen from a suitcase that'd been set out the night before departure. It was a foolish choice. They believe that the crew was responsible -- either the onboard crew or the terminal crew -- but they can't prove it.

We get about 28 days annual leave (vacation allowance) as standard over here - well depending where you work, but 28 days is pretty normal.

 

So I book a few days either side of a cruise.

 

For example, we leave in for our cruise in three days (Friday 2nd October). I've taken off all of this week, and the week after too. :)

I like to depart later somewhere closer to 9am than 8am. I like to enjoy my final Windjammer breakfast before departure with no rush.

What ship does D+ get escorted out? I think I've seen this once but most of the time there is no benefit.

 

I do like to get going early mostly because of work but other times just because I think of all the people that want to board. Of course the best is a b2b when you don't have to leave. 😀

The only D+ I heard of getting escorted off were in a suite. I'm sure the heavy hitters will weigh in on this.

As much as I want my cruise vacation to last as long as it can....it can't. I like to board the ship as early as I can to start my cruise vacation, and am considerate of those who will be getting on board after I depart. The staff needs time to turn over the cabin and get it 'ship shape' for its next cruisers.

 

There definitely is an air on the morning of departure of 'your cruise is over, please don't let the door stub your backside'.....but it is only fair, since I wanted the cruisers to get off the ship on the morning, I was due to get on.

 

Personally, we are early birds....and often take our own luggage off the ship with us. If for some reason we are not taking our luggage of with us, and have access to a priority lounge, we will make use of it while waiting -- it just is a little nicer area to wait in generally.

Before I retired I had 40 vacation days per year, and I did use it.

Regardless Land or Sea vacation, I am in NO hurry to get home. If we are sailing, we typically plan to stay in the area a day before and a few days after or visa versa.

 

If we do a land vacation (driving or flying) we like to leave in the evening.

 

I always wonder why people want to make an early flight home from a cruise!! Stay a day or 2 and relax :)

The sad part is companies in the US don't recognize the need for vacation time for their workers.....it truly would help them be more productive. I can surely say that if DH and I had more vacation time, we would find a way to cruise a little more. DH does get a nice amount of vacation time, considering he does work for a US company -- but it also has to cover holidays that need to be taken, for religious reasons -- but we do make the most of the vacation time he gets by stretching the days around non work days, like legal holidays. We make it work as well as we can -- creative planning.

I've seen D have a special area with coffee and rolls but I haven't seen an escort. Just saw the guy lower the rope and tell them to go . I've always been escorted off by the concierge which is a nice. Perk for suites.

Laura gets paid for unused vacation. They are allowed to carry 240 hours. I think she has been carrying it for 20 if the last 30 years.

This is true... I often forget about that 4 letter word "Work" it's a nasty word :eek:

 

I was medically forced into retirement. Most the time, I no complaints about it. :D My DH has a nice amount of vacation time, plus I tend to visit family a few times a year while he is at work.

 

Its good that you can relax on a cruise and then get back to work same day, its unfortunate you have to, but good that you can.

what time is 'get off the ship' time? i'm thinking it may be different for each ship?

if i'm going to be boarding the oasis, lets say, at noon I wouldn't think anyone could do to much lounging around if everyone has to be off the ship before they start to reload.

We were on Rhapsody. We also did Rhapsody in Alaska last year and had the same offer. It was from the Concierge. Ask in the Concierge Lounge. But it does seem to be the smaller ships. It was a nice touch.

That is what I have also been told. They now will give you a priority luggage tag, but not take you to the front. Most people know that when they start calling one luggage they are ready with others numbers and depart the ship. I was told that only suite and pinnacle gets the priority departure now.

 

 

On Navigator in August we had priority luggage tag for being in a suite. As soon as the porter saw our priority tag he took us to the front of the line in front of the other porters and told them we had priority tags. There wasn't any problem with it.
