Is it me or has cruise prices gone thru the roof?

I have been quite loyal to royal but their prices as of late has caused me to look elsewhere, namely NCL.

I have been looking at prices and remembered a few years back on the Allure/oasis a D1 balcony for 4 could be had for $4 to 5k (low season) and now they are more like $6 to 8k.

I know prices change for a lot of reason but is this the new norm? Or am I missing the deals?

For a while, it did look like the new norm for the cruises that I look at and it was not just Royal. There appears to be some softening over the last month though. I found a 12 night on Anthem at a reasonable price for a new ship and locked it in. If prices go down, I benefit.

If people could stop paying the high prices, the cruise prices would go back down.I'm trying to do just that, but it is not easy.:)

Which ship?

I'm just check harmony for Dec 17 2016, 4 in a boardwalk balcony is $6k with my D discount. ..next week it's $8k

I booked D3 for four people, Harmony Jan 28 '17 , for 3457 $ (with 250 $ obc) but decided to cancel and book two D6s instead. It cost me 4800 $ (with 225 $ obc for both cabins). I would have gotten a really good deal (~3800 $) if I had thought about needing two cabins earlier but this will have to do... Too bad I'll also need to pay airfare from Finland to FLL, that'll be an extra 3000 $.

I booked Harmony back in June Easter week 2017 for 4 of us in a JS for just under $5000. It's a two month early 40th birthday cruise, I wanted to cruise Disney for the first time but they just released their prices and the insides are over 7000 for 4 of us. No thank you. I think royal prices are very reasonable. But we don't cruise often. But when a deal comes up, especially during school off times, I try to book.

I wonder if the recent announcement of waterslides have put an increase to Royal's cruises? Aside from it being costly to create them (or so I assume), it would entice people to book with Royal.

"You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

People are super upset of so called " sales" that run for over a year. We( CC members) know most of the trick and we can detect a real sale. Although we complaint of royal price games we represent less of the 10% in every ship the other 90% come from new cruises and past passengers.

I used to sell royal caribbean ships to my friends, I'm not a TA but I was always telling them how good royal was and so on, royal is not bad now but year by year I'm less impressed with them for the price I'm paying. You take off the rock climbing, flow rider, and zip line and soon I start to question myself how an interior room for a week including 3 port of call including Nassau ( with an incredible high rate in crime and only a few hours in port) and 2 more port of calls make it over 1000$ and don't forget about tips.

I'm not looking for a cheap ship I love high end products but to me royal prices doesn't add to their service they provide now

Too bad that RCCL doesnt give a good exchange rate like NCL. I booked my March 2016 spring break cruise for an exchange rate of $1 USD to $1.08 CDN...and my Xmas 2016 cruise for $1.11 -- the Harmony is $1.28...

Two balconies for 2800...so 1400 each or 700 pp. That's amazing.

Is this on USD? I'm talking about CDN (and our crappy exchange rate) which then is no longer thru the roof but out into outer space...

Yes, USD. The taxes drove our PP rate up to $700.

Sorry that the CND continues to tank.... :(

Yes those prices were in US- On Saturday there were several Allure/Oasis November sailings that had balconies for under $700 and insides for under $500. There was a thread on it here on CC. Those prices were gone by the end of the day

I looked again at 3:00 PM Eastern just to see how the "sales" were going - they were gone and the price was crazy high again.

I'm a deal chaser so I feel lucky to have nailed low prices. But I also haven't gotten spoiled by suites

inside deck 2 or GS at the top work the same for me.

$8000 for a family of 4 for 7 nights in a balcony with beach ports and unlimited food is a fantastic deal.

Personally, cruising has only gotten cheaper for me.

Airfare is cheaper than ever and getting to the port isn't expensive.

If I demanded a balcony or a suite, naturally I would have to pay more.

I'm glad others do to subsidize my hobby!

I agree with just about every single point in both of your posts.

I'm leaving in a few weeks for a 15 night transatlantic on Celebrity for $799pp with $525 OBC! :D

I'm doing a 35 night B2B New Zealand and transpacific on Explorer OTS in April for only $1670pp!

Right now you can book a 27 night B2B on Rhapsody OTS from Rome to Barcelona to Sao Paulo for $1448pp with $550 OBC. And THAT price is higher than it was a week or two ago. ;)

Plane tickets through Choice Air are dirt cheap even when booking last minute. My flight to Rome is only $455pp

The cruises I take are almost cheaper than staying at home... thanks primarily to those folks staying in suites and funding the casinos.

While there are some deals for airfare out there if you dont mind flying a red eye etc ,for the most part airfare is much more expensive then it was ten yrs ago or even 5 yrs ago... I could find round trip from connecticut to florida on the weekend for under 180... Now its 400 easily... Plus now except a couple airlines you are paying for luggage...Ive tried looking at prices six months out and waited till two weeks prior and still cant find deals that are good.. I just tried choice air for a flight 3 weeks from now and they are 150 more then I just paid a week ago each round trip ticket...

Seriously??  Our family of three is sailing in a balcony for 7 nights on RCCL at high season (spring break) next year for 2,400.00..........

I was thinking the same thing.

Because of work constraints and us having to fly to Florida to cruise, we tend to cruise every other year. Last time on Oasis was 2013. The price we're paying this time is almost exactly the same as it was in 2013. And the price we paid in 2013 on Oasis was almost identical (within about $100 overall) as what we paid in 2011 on Liberty. So for me, I haven't seen such a marked increase in cruise pricing.

The sales (non-sales that they call sales) are a little tiresome. But in the end, the price I paid for my upcoming November Oasis cruise is almost identical to what I paid back in 2011 for Liberty.

Then why the price drops for November? Lol

Because November, early December and early January are traditionally slow months for cruise passengers on most, if not all, lines. Prices can vary by week or sailing date and the law of supply and demand still apply.

I agree....We used to always book a JS or D1 balcony room. Now we're lucky to be able afford an oceanview.

I don't think you are missing many deals. Prices are higher for most of the cruises we would be considering. If we cannot get good prices when the cruises are first released, then we won't be cruising as much.

Same here , for the first time I abandoned royal for NCL in 2016. After doing the math I either had to cut my vacation to 6 nights in an older ship or pay way more money onboard oasis/allure for a week. After watching those price drops in many ships for November I will play the " last minute booking" in the future. Before, I needed to have a reservation a year ahead now I feel like I will gamble and also take in consideration other cruise lines.

Just did a comp on 7-night Allure and Celebrity for the same week out of FLL in 2017, and can get the Celebrity cruise including drink package for two + $150 OBC for less than a comparable balcony cabin on Allure:cool:

prices for Jan 2016 cruises on Allure dropped almost 50 %!

I just checked for fun..

we are already booked on NCL for January

For our Jan 2015 Allure cruise we booked in October 2014 for a price that is comparable to the price of today (for example a D2 cabin is only 720 € when I checked a few minutes ago).

We now learned: when booking Allure for January, try it in October :)

before this massive drop prices were really through the roof! 1200 € for a standard OV balcony immediately discouraged us to book and check for another cruise line.

A fantastic deal??? HARDLY in my book, more like an absolute rip off to me. Glad your doing that well to consider that a deal. Not me.

Hence part of the reason 2 of the last 3 cruises have NOT been with RCCL, they're prices are absolutely higher than most with IMO nothing better. They've pretty much lost my business
