CAS booking and planning on not gambling....

This might be a silly question but hoping to ease my mind....

 

I just booked the CTN for 12/11/15 on the Breakaway with CAS today. I was comped a balcony just having to pay the taxes.

 

I've had booked for almost a year through CAS the 10 day on the Gem 1/2/16. Again I was comped a balcony but paid to upgrade to an aft balcony.

 

I really have no plans on gambling on the CTN because I'm going with a non-gambler.

 

Will this affect my comp on my 10 day? Can they downgrade my comp because I won't be gambling on the CTN?

 

I recall reading a thread here a few weeks ago where someone did get their comp downgraded after booking but I've been booked for months and I'm 80 days out.

 

Hopefully all you seasoned CAS cruisers will tell I'm being paranoid!

With NCL anything is possible. I doubt they would adjust your room or price this close to sailing though.

I think you're being paranoid. The 10 day shouldn't be affected, but anything hereafter might be. So you might want to double-down on the 10day.

 

They do look at averages.... I'm a 'cusp' player... not quite in the big leagues, but not a small fry.

 

BUT...because I'm almost always at the same level, they treat me closer to being in the big leagues. My consistency of play cruise-over-cruise gives them confidence that they can expect the same of me over the next few. This helped me when I was sick as a dog on the BA (bronchitis) and didn't play much.

 

 

I think missing a 1 day CTN is forgivable. Play a couple of $100 in a machine, so they know you were there....

At land based casinos a 'zero' day can really hurt you even if you follow it up with very heavy played couple days. It would make me nervous if I was hoping for future CAS comped cruises. Since I get the best comped cruises from land based casinos, I don't worry so much on board but still play for fun at lower stakes than I play in Vegas.

I agree with Stephen. Since you did get comped for the CTN, hit the casino a few times and spend a couple of hundred. It will be your play on the 10-nighter that will affect future offers/comps.

Since I get the best comped cruises from land based casinos, I don't worry so much on board but still play for fun at lower stakes than I play in Vegas.

 

The way it has worked for me in the past in Vegas is a last 3 trip average for comps....so a zero or low play trip would bring the average down quite a bunch. When it comes to CAS I have been told that they look at your last sailing first when establishing a comp value. I also have been told that they can look at a previous cruise if it is recent for comp value. They did this for me on one of my cruises. In my mind, it is a different system.

Here's a sillier question or more of a noob question: what does CAS stand for? I did check some acronym lists, but I think this is NCL-specific so didn't find it. And I'm a complete noob!

I agree about CAS looking at last cruise and making determination. We have comped balcony on Breakaway in Nov which I booked right after returning from our March cruise. Went to Alaska in Aug on comped balcony and gambled very little. No time for gambling in Alaska.... Called to book CTN like OP and was only offered comped inside. So they do indeed look at most recent. I'll live with inside for 2 days. Waiting to book my next one after I return in November and after a week of gambling.

I just booked the CTN yesterday after returning Sunday from a week on the Breakaway where I played pretty heavy. I was comped a balcony but I usually get a mini suite but the agent said it is because this cruise is so expensive. Two nights on this cruise costs more than most 7 night cruises. He did say that he wasn't sure how this cruise would affect my offers and to try to at least play some. Just in case, I will probably book my next cruise before I take this one.

Without being very specific I was wondering what you thought the magic number of points would be to receive a offer from CAS. We are going in November from a total rewards (harrahs) offer. I would rather deal with NCL CAS then waiting on Harrah offers.

 

I see HOT is 5000 points. But during a 7 day cruise what would a decent point balance be? Like 3500 would generate a offer? I would not chase points if I am doing lousy but there is no way we would cruise and ignore the casino.

Others here are much more knowledgeable about how CAS calculates comps, but I can tell you that I have received CAS cruise comps when I had just 3600 points (inside cabin - 7-day cruise) As my points increased, my comp cabin category increased as well.

I earned about 8000 points on my last cruise but was told that wasn't enough as it's based on your losses or theoretical loss. In other words, because I had won a little, not good for comped cruises:rolleyes:

Seriously? Wow! That seems like a ton of points to not receive offers for at least a indoor cabin. Have you tried calling them for a cruise you are interested in? Even if you win, they usually want you back to spend those winnings. At a land base casino we got all sorts of attention from hosts and whatnot after a winning day. And slowly we give it back. lol

I usually earn about 2500 points per cruise but had played that much extra since I had been winning on this trip (not the usual!) I called CAS to see if they could upgrade the already booked Inside for me, but was told no. They told me that to qualify for an Ocean View comped would be a loss or theoretical loss of 2900 to 3500. A balcony would be a loss of over 3500. I'm going back to my comped Balconies that Caesar's keeps giving me and not counting on CAS to get these cruises. We are going on 4 or 5 cruises a years from CET.

When I go to Vegas I'm staying in their hotel for free so if I fail to play in their casino it's a 'zero' day. They also offer me other things like Free Play, shows, all food comped in addition to several cruise certificates a year. I don't want to lose their offers, or have them decrease in value, as they are worth a lot more to me than what I earn onboard from CAS. I love my cruises too! Just get better deals from Vegas that also include those cruises.
