Riedel Workshop Requires Reservation Four Days Prior to Cruse?

"Participation must be pre-reserved a minimum of four days before your sail date" is the last line under the description for the Riedel Workshop found here: http://www.celebritycruises.com/onboard-celebrity/onboard-beverage-packages?pagename=onboard_beverage_packages_riedel_wine&tab=onboard_beverage_packages_riedel_wine_tab I have read here on CC that there are discounted offerings for the specialty restaurants, laundry, and internet once on board. Is that also true for the Riedel Workshop? Should we wait to sign up for the Riedel Workshop once on board ship, or as the online description indicates, do we need to pre-register?

I've never known Celebrity to require pre sailing reservations to participate. Maybe they are just trying to judge interest. They do not offer discounts on board.

No excursion or activity can be reserved the last three days before the cruise as your online access is no longer accessible.

The 4 days is the cut-off for all on-line reservations; dining, shore excursions, spa, etc. The cutoff allows Miami to provide the info to the ships. You should not have a problem booking this once onboard. Have not seen a discount offered for this event.

Agreed. I've been to three and there were always extra setups of glasses that went unused. No need to book early and easy to book on board.

I do one each cruise, always book on board. The glasses are much less on board then purchasing at home & they'll ship to your home. Great way to replace the glasses you (or someone) broke in between cruises. [emoji485][emoji485]

You won't have any trouble booking this on board, but I can tell you that there were at least 15 if not 20 participants when my husband and I did this on the Reflection in 2010. We loved it - and I'm enjoying wine out of one of our Riedel glasses right now. :)

Be assured that you will have no difficulty signing up on board for the Riedel saless pitch! :rolleyes: They want you to enhance your wine-drinking experience buy purchasing some expensive goblet styles. Our own crystal at home is much better looking, we are not oenophiles and we couldn't tell the difference that they suggested that we could anyway.:D

Thank you everyone for the feedback. We will be on a TA with plenty of time to taste wine and we are looking forward to trying the glasses. If we don't notice a difference in the wine, we'll consider it an entertainment and souvenir expense. Either way, we are looking forward to trying the glasses and the wine.

Perhaps it depends on the cruise demographic? On our March Solstice cruise the event sold out once onboard.

 

However it may be because Celebrity only cruises out of Australian waters for 6 months a year, so there are more first time Celebrity cruisers and more interest in these style of events that aren't really offered on other cruise lines from Aus.

I was very skeptical, however couldn't believe the taste difference out of the Riedels! We loved that we received a selection to take home with us, and now use them every time we have wine. I'd actually almost feel cheated now if I was served wine in a regular restaurant glass, as you miss out on getting everything out of the wine.

Perhaps they do the event different depending on the ship however our event focused on trying four wines out of a regular glass and a Riedel glass, learning about the history of glassware and enjoying socialising with other guests.

 

We received our four glasses each to take home with us, however there was actually no sales pitch to buy any. I didn't think it was an option on our sailing as it wasn't mentioned, however that being said our voyage was the last Australian voyage before the ship went back to the US and I do know they were running very low on the Rieidel take home stock, so perhaps this is why there was no offer to purchase additional glasses.

We find that even cheap wine or cask wine tastes a whole lot nicer in Riedel!

We enjoyed the workshop. Only two other couples and one single. The wine steward in Blu served our wine in Riedel each evening after we booked the workshop through him.
