Rare POA1 Posted October 22, 2015 #52 Share Posted October 22, 2015 How many people's actually cast votes in this poll and what was the margins of deviation. + and - (plus and minus). Sample size was greater than 128,000. That means that the margin of error was tiny. Not sure what you mean by margin of deviation. There's margin of error and there's standard deviation. smtcan Posted October 22, 2015 #54 Share Posted October 22, 2015 This statement confuses me. One credit/point for cruises of less than 12 nights was the rule for a long time. Two credits/points for 12 or more days. Not including when Concierge class joined the team. If a cruiser had 100 credits/points then they would be qualified for Zenith. Am I confused? It isn't confusing. When the conversion was made, an eleven night cruise counted for the same as a three night one. Three three night cruises earned three points under the old system. One eleven night cruise earned one point. The new system is fairer, particularly for those who live a long way from ports and take longer cruises, but many people had issues with the way the conversion was made. I gave up trying and decided to go for Diamond Plus instead. That is reachable while Zenith is not... Edited October 22, 2015 by riredsox
luv4cruises Posted October 22, 2015 #57 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Very few people have cruised on every ship in a fleet on every itinerary! Sometimes our personal ratings are based on our own very personal point of view. When a poll or survey outcome does not agree with our own conclusion we respond in angry disbelief that our opinion is not supported by everyone in the world. I have cruised on 6 different cruise lines. I particularly have loved my cruises on Princess, HAL and Celebrity. IMHO entertainment is best on the Oasis. As many have said, my favorite cruise is the one I am fortunate to be on. Anticipating a future cruise makes me feel like a child waiting for Christmas! Aren't I lucky to have that opportunity in my life!
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted October 22, 2015 #58 Share Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) There's no way I'd rank Princess above Celebrity. We tried our first (and thus far only) Princess cruise 3 years ago - a suite on the Caribbean Princess. I felt compelled to write a review upon our return as there were a few things which stood out, and not in a positive way: > We dine in specialty restaurants each night. Our first night's meal was in the Crown Grill. The Plain Jane water glasses (think of what you'd have in your cabin bathroom) and salt/pepper shakers (think Steak and Shake) aside... I was taken aback when Cheryl ordered Pellegrino and they asked for our ship card to go ahead and run the charge. I asked if they couldn't just "run a tab" and bring us our bill at the end of the meal. They said that's not the way they do it. It just seemed VERY odd! > First show of the evening, and I ordered a mixed drink: Grey Goose and Diet Sprite. Well, it turns out on Princess (this occurred the entire week) that if they don't have the mixer you request in one of their soda guns, you get to pay for a can in addition to your drink. Never seen that on a cruise before ! Little things, admittedly, but it set the tone for the cruise. I get periodic offers (mainly from their casino) for discounted sailings, but I've not been tempted. Speaking of Casinos, nothing beats the smoke free casino on Celebrity! Nor the 20% I get off of our cruise fare thanks to the Blue Chip Club! We're giving HAL a try next year, but that's mainly owing to the fact that I've sailed them only once before... in 1966 (as a 4 year old, TA crossing with my parents), and I thought it would be novel to return after a 50 year hiatus! :D Our next two sailings are on Celebrity - including a 10 nighter on the Equinox that I'm taking my office staff on (annual cruise). Needless to say, we are fans of Celebrity! Tom Edited October 22, 2015 by Tom-n-Cheryl
stratixman Posted October 22, 2015 #59 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Unless Conde Nast can verify that everyone who voted has actually sailed on each cruise line (doubtful,) and that they actually cruised a sufficient number of equal times on each line (doubtful), and they sailed on reasonably comparable itineraries at similar times (again doubtful), then I wouldn't accord much value in the ratings. How can one rank choice among multiple cruise lines if they have never experienced several of the choices? Really not possible. One can rate their overall satisfaction levels for those lines they experienced but they can't really meaningfully compare with lines that they have zero experience with. And how many times have we all read negative reviews blasting a particular cruise not because of the quality of the actual ship experience but because other aspects such as itinerary and/or weather? Ruthk Posted October 25, 2015 #63 Share Posted October 25, 2015 We sail Celebrity every year for a month and had stayed true to Celebrity for years and never thought about another cruise line. Then last year, through Caesars Entertainment, NCL offered us free cruises and we thought that would be a fun cheap holiday. We booked NCL the week before getting on our annual Celebrity one month sail. We both knew not to expect anything out of NCL because of all the negative reviews, but it was free so we weren't expecting much. NCL also gave us 4 complimentary upgraded restaurants meals. Well, we were blown away with NCL. There was nothing to fault them on. We sailed their new ship the Getaway, and we were busy from morning to night. There was so much to do that we were never bored. The food was excellent, entertainment was top notch. Tea was actually served in a nice white ceramic tea pot, I never get that at Celebrity, where we drink tea out of a coffee carafe with the coffee oils in the pot - yuck! NCL has great pubs and the pub food is free - meanwhile Celebrity is charging for pub food. NCL just launched a new ship this week that has a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville on board - guess what? - again their food is free. Does Celebrity really have to charge for the Gastrobar? I feel much more nickel and dimes on Celebrity than I did on NCL. I loved their restaurant that during dinner you can dine and dance. Also I liked that there was not one main restaurant but 3 smaller ones to pick from that was more restaurant quality service instead of mass dining in a banquet hall. We also got on the ship and got off the ship much quicker. It really was a great experience, nothing to fault them on.

We were very surprised with the overall experience. The 2 biggest problems we noticed were the crowding at the pool ( way too small for the size of the ship), & the horrible food & service in the free MDRs. Their specialty restaurants are great, & reasonably priced, & their buffet is very good. Entertainment blows Celebrity's away.

Oh really ? Consider the polls running up to the UK general election earlier this year. They were almost 100% accurate. ie they all got it wrong [emoji12] The only opinion that really matters is your own or someone who has similar tastes (who one can trust) Conde Nast a Bit like Trip Advisor reviews one needs a salt mine to hand. Mind you this forum has its moments . I like Cel. hence why I have 2 futures booked. stefndoug Posted October 26, 2015 #68 Share Posted October 26, 2015 Disney is my fav...but then I have a Mickey Mouse tattoo, so I am obviously a fan. I actually think Disney does adult entertainment the best. Their night entertainment is great and they have an awesome adults only area that they enforce. I find the food just fine, but then I am not too picky...I don't have to cook. I like Celebrity next because it is a more relaxed atmosphere, but I sure don't like the shows...but again, I am a Disney fan, and you can not compare Disney production shows to any other cruiseline. I am surprised that Celebrity is ranked so low though...guess I will have to compare when I go in January :) Just got back from a 10 night Disney cruise (got a industry rate) and it was a blast. grandpaiscruising Posted November 2, 2015 #70 Share Posted November 2, 2015 I just returned from a trip to the west coast and last sailed Celebrity in March. On the trip I read in the 8/15 edition of Travel-Leisure that Celebrity ranked 8th after Cunard, Princess and HAL. My 11/15 edition of Conde Nast Traveler was at home and Celebrity ranked 6th in the large ship category behind Disney, Cunard, Princess, NCL, and RCCL. Have things gotten that bad? I have a final payment due next week and want to know. Silhouette, 3/26/17, Summit, 5/8/16 Equinox 2/22/16 HAL 56 days, RCCL 104 points, NCL 28 days, Princess Elite 228 days, Royal 14 days, Cunard 49 days, Celebrity Elite+ 26 cruises
CHEZMARYLOU Posted November 2, 2015 #71 Share Posted November 2, 2015 I very seldom pay attention to polls. There was a long discussion when this report came out if you want to look back several weeks. We just returned from a Summit cruise that was one of the best ever. Looking forward to our Eclipse cruise in March. We are Elite + with Celebrity also.
richsea Posted November 2, 2015 #72 Share Posted November 2, 2015 I have to follow my own judgement that X is still adequate for our needs. I completely agree. The sad part of that statement is "adequate"; it seems that that is what Celebrity is going for, whereas it used to be "exceeding expectations". Being rated sixth is just that---adequate.:(
grandpaiscruising Posted November 2, 2015 #73 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Glad to see some better comments as it reassures me, thank you. We are in Aqua class on our next cruise and in the suite on the following two so I don't have to deal will the MDR. Silhouette, 3/26/17, Summit, 5/8/16 Equinox 2/22/16 HAL 56 days, RCCL 104 points, NCL 28 days, Princess Elite 228 days, Royal 14 days, Cunard 49 days, Celebrity Elite+ 26 cruises
hulamoon Posted November 2, 2015 #74 Share Posted November 2, 2015 I think for the most part suite satisfaction is rather high. Maybe not the current bill you pay for it but people are buying it and I think most enjoy it.
cruiseerf Posted November 3, 2015 #75 Share Posted November 3, 2015 As anyone could have voted online......and could adjust their URL....Web address to vote multiple times, I would honestly say this is a highly unreliable list. I fly around the world in First or Business class monthly and their airline listings are Way off and don't even mention Cathay Pacific....Which is an excellent airline with amazing Business and First products? No Way NCL or Princess is coming in above Celebrity......Unless perhaps the survey was skewed because they take more passengers and thus may have more respondents? I am convinced.....Like for many Tripadvisor reviews.....That someone hired a team of people in India to vote for them......My company was offered this to boost our ratings on tripadvisor for $250 per month....we Declined....but many do not.....I fear this survey is a victim of technology...... Celebrity is no Crystal, but they provide an across the board product that is superior to most large ships......Some ships do it better than others....Newer vs. older etc....However in my 100+ cruises, I think if Celebrity improved their main dining room and buffet food....they would have a winning hand. That said their bookings are incredibly strong. Safe sails to all, This Survey holds no water.....
