BosoxI Posted October 21, 2015 #26 Share Posted October 21, 2015 We can take it or leave it, usually we leave it. Getting just the right seat is crucial, and if the movie is a loser, I'll be in dreamland in no time flat
gek Posted October 21, 2015 #27 Share Posted October 21, 2015 I like MUTS but not the constant deafening blast of other programming on the big screen during the day. Princess is definitely guilty of this. However Celebrity's big screen will not be situated around the pool and it is only currently planned for the rear deck 12 area of the M-class ships. It looks like a much more intimate setting and wont be a focal point the way it is on other ships. I usually choose the Deck 11 A1 cabins so I'm concerned at how it will impact on them. Other than that I think it is a good move. I want more entertainment options at night because I don't do the casino and I am not a big fan of cheesy production shows (or most of what passes for entertainment in the main theatre for that matter). If MUTS on Celebrity is done well and with a bit of class then it will be a big asset.
SantaFeFan Posted October 21, 2015 #28 Share Posted October 21, 2015 I for one am super excited about MUTS! My husband loves lying at the pool and watching a movie makes it much more tolerable for me. Also, as there are no pool games on Celebrity, this will allow for some entertainment. It is also nice in the evening. We were on the Regal Princess last year and really enjoyed watching a movie under the stars with a bottle of champagne and some popcorn. Very enjoyable! The screens will be on an upper deck towards the rear of the ship, not anywhere near a pool. If they have to follow the lowest common denominator like Carnival to attract passengers with these awful contraptions, at least it will be in a remote area that can be avoided. I don't take a cruise to watch movies I can watch at home.
cpj Posted October 21, 2015 #29 Share Posted October 21, 2015 They are not marketing there ships to the old timers. They need to stay competive. In the future a lot us won't be around and they need to go after the younger generation. It is what is.

It will help to peel off the clients who don't want the ostentatious outdoor movies. It makes sense from a business perspective.

As DW and I love to have an aft cabin and sit out there in the evening with a bottle of wine, the thought of MUTS is most discouraging. If people want to watch a movie, show it in a theatre and don't subject everyone else to the sound track!

I mentioned Princess in my post as that's where I recently enjoyed it, movies and great concerts. We saw Paul McCartney live in Central Park, Elton John live in Vegas, etc, etc. I doubt you have a screen that large or sound system in your house lol. People cruise for many reasons. There's a casino on most ships, I don't take a cruise for that! To each their own...😊
Oxo Posted October 21, 2015 #34 Share Posted October 21, 2015 Celebrity is owned by Royal Caribbean. RCI has MUTS on their ships now. So, X will follow. Like everything else, Some will like the change others will not. Times are changing. What else can we say?
publicpersona Posted October 22, 2015 #35 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I despise the big screens that Royal has on the pool deck. If they used them for an early evening movie, fine. But they play music videos all day that don't match the music you hear on the pool deck. Makes me crazy.
JEH Posted October 22, 2015 #36 Share Posted October 22, 2015 As Princess Elite who has left Princess I am sorry to hear MUTS is coming to X . Blaring sound , mindless programing and second rate movies shown in the pool areas detract from the cruise experience

romancing_the_sea Posted October 22, 2015 #39 Share Posted October 22, 2015 So disappointed. We just booked the Solstice after not sailing with Celebrity for 18 years! Is this just for the M class? My problem with MUTS is that on the Ruby Princess we could hear Monday night football from our balcony, which is where we go for quiet and relaxation. So far this is for some M-Class ships only and nowhere near the pool. I imagine that Celebrity will implement MUTS in a somewhat different way to other cruise lines but time will tell. But Celebrity has to get them now to start cruising and hope they can keep them. There not going to do it with lawns.

Of course not, because every time the young person goes up to enjoy the lawn, a bunch of old guys start yelling at them "Kid, get off my lawn!!" :)
DrivesLikeMario Posted October 22, 2015 #43 Share Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) I've cruised at least 18 times with MUTS on ships. Never impacted my cruise in a negative way. I've watched 1 whole movie at it once and that was fun, but it's usually so humid in the Caribbean at night, that it's just not comfortable to sit out there. I would never even consider whether a ship has MUTS or not in my cruise decision making. Edited October 22, 2015 by DrivesLikeMario

Some of us are more discerning with our time and money and care about our surroundings. I much prefer to go through life being aware of what is around me, not oblivious to it. That is why I tend to gravitate away from unpleasant places and locations, and towards places and locations that are interesting and enjoyable. I would never waste my time going somewhere and not notice being there. Edited October 22, 2015 by sloopsailor
need2bespoiled Posted October 22, 2015 #45 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I'll be on the Infinity when it rolls out on December 5th. I'll post pictures. I'm looking forward to it. My husband and I watched the movies most nights on our Carnival Cruise last April. It will keep us from our second cabin "the casino" and that may or may not be a bad idea. I'm excited to have something else to do in the evening besides gamble. We're not big on the shows or dancing, so this is great. So far. We'll be one of the first to find out on the 5th. I look forward to watching MUTS with you, and winning money with you in the casino :) Happy sailing, Jenna

It's about noticing what you like and tuning out what you don't. Peaceful people can be fully present and mindful without being bothered by things they don't care for. Enjoy the moment and peace out. :)

Balconyaft Posted October 22, 2015 #49 Share Posted October 22, 2015 I have great memories of pulling our loungers together and watching movies on Princess. After our late dinner, cocktails and visits to various lounges it was so indulgent to curl up with a blanket, my sweetie and our last "sip" of the night. We fell asleep before our popcorn was gone. During sea days it was fun to have a Paul McCartney concert or a movie on when we went to the pool deck. For me an outdoor movie venue is a great addition to Celebrity. The location looks like it will be unobtrusive and provide a nice alternate form of entertainment. Five more weeks and we are on Celebrity Reflection! going2cruz Posted October 22, 2015 Author #50 Share Posted October 22, 2015 Hated this concept the reason we will never sail on Princess or any other ship that has this stupid big screen blaring all day As a CCL investor I forgave the shareholder discount and came over to Celebrity and didn’t do Princess because of the loud screens. It does appear it’s been tastefully done by Celebrity with a dedicated area.
